QAFL 2024 season

That would be a big surprise. Mount Gravatt have been quick to post their ressies level / d3 level signings so far so why are they keeping this one so secret?
I have grave concerns for Mt Gravatt and their player signings. Div 2 players from Toowoomba? Resigning the same blokes who were ressies players at best as a huge re-signing for their senior team.

Their Friday night team went from undefeated premiers to equal second last.

Not sure why anyone wants to go there, other then the club is desperate to have anyone and so will take anyone. Great opportunity if you’re a young bloke or someone wanting to test themselves at QAFL.

Agree. Would be embarassed to post up some of the blokes they have.

Most recent ones are some bloke who is fast that played a bit of Ressies and u16s at Coorparoo, an MMA fighter who played a bit of Colts at Labrador, Josh Smart who played 1 x VFL game as a top up, and has mostly played Ressies at both Redland and Mt Gravatt, a Rugby 7's player who played for Wynnum, a guy from Springfield Div 4 who might have trained once with the Pioneers a decade ago, but they list as a TAC Cup player!

Add that to a bunch of lads from Darling Downs, a few ressies blokes from Surfers and its slim pickings.

A for effort, and I reckon they will be better in 2025 than they were in 2024 - but geez they need alot more!

Good on these players for having a crack, but posting up signings like that is surely counter productive?

As I have said before,, Mt Gravatt should of dropped out whilst Corparoo stepped in

Yes Stuyd but as mentioned previously on here,if a club meets the QAFL criteria they will more than likely get a license. Its not about how many teams(10 team comp,12 team comp which most of us prefer)At head office it’s about meeting the selection criteria and if there is 16 teams that meet it and apply well fair chance that’s how many we will have at present!
Was told also that a club wouldn’t want to be on the bottom and uncompetitive for several years running either!
Great challenge👍

Part of the criteria should be competitiveness. Ie win a minimum of X games in a 3 yr period. Or a % of some sort.
It does nothing for the States most marketable and visual comp to have a club being pole axed weekly and more so when the numbers don’t allow an even fixturing. Just stupid really

Does an average losing margin of 133 points per game be classified as uncompetitive?

They won 3 games across their 3 grades in 2024. What does competitiveness look like?

For comparison for other teams who have finished last at senior level since UQ left

2023 (Sherwood) - 16 wins across 3 grades
2022 (Sherwood) - 22 wins across 3 grades
2021 (Noosa) - 5 wins across 3 grades (*shortened season, but zero wins in both Seniors & Reserves)
2020 (Grange) - 9 wins across 3 grades (*shortened season, Colts finished 2nd)
2019 (Grange) - 19 wins across 3 grades (Colts won the Premiership)
2018 (Grange) - 18 wins across 3 grades
2017 (Grange) - 23 wins across 3 grades

So apart from Noosa in 2021, who still got to 5 wins in half a season - and while winless in both Seniors & Ressies were at least reasonably competitive - the 2024 Vultures are about as bad as it can possibly get.

I reckon while their seniors will improve, its likely they won't win at all at any level of QAFL footy in 2025 and are the first club to finish bottom in all 3 grades since QAFL reformed. Unfortunately there are no green shutes in their youth program either.

You can bag Mt Gravatt all you want but they have been in the comp for a long time.
That alone should give them the opportunity to climb out of a hole.
I'm sure the loyal club people are trying everything to make that happen.
If that means signing anyone they can so be it.
Who knows in a couple of years from now they climb up the ladder and the focus will be on teams under them.
As for how many teams the comp should be. Most say ten.
But it will be an easier sell to add more teams than tell three clubs they are out.

Defend Mt Gravatt all you like but Mayne, Sandgate, Kedron & Zillmere were in QAFL for a long time too. Western Districts/Sherwood/Magpies also in various forms. Time stands still for no one, ask Fitzroy and South Melbourne. Maintain a solid club footy program or step aside.

Absolutely correct but they deserve a chance to climb out.
If not natural selection will find its level.
Plenty of clubs have held up the ladder and become viable.

Mt Gravatt played finals 6 times out of 11 since the restructure after 2013. They deserve a chance to get it together but agree with those that have noted that their announced recruits are somewhat embarrassing to be putting out there.

Where to draw the line is always a challenge but at Broady we tend to try to only announce reasonably well credentialed recruits and regular senior returning players.

Honestly think 0-18 is a real possibility again and honestly they should drop back in that circumstance

Will they though? Isn’t it a junior committee? How many clubs have hung in proudly and not listened to the playing group?

everyone just gets to sit back and watch another train wreck as AFLQ are powerless to act. Or more to the point too spineless to act

Not sure they will be better in 2025 when you look at departures from 2024 vs recruiting. They lost their captain to Coorparoo and I know of at least 6 other players that played regular senior footy last year that have left as well.

I think other clubs will probably go up a notch from last year so it does look bleak. Not sure Jack James by himself can do much about changing that scenario unless he has a few mates going with him.

their 2024 captain or 2023 captain?

It's very bleak if they lost any of the handful of guys that can actually play from their 2024 team.

There was legitmately only 3-4 of them and they need ALL of them to stay!

Griffiths, Clare, Blood & Brent probably the only legit senior blokes they had. Sorry, don't know who Hurst is - but wou;ldn't think they could affoird to lose any of those 4, or the next best 5 or 6.

The way that Zillmere was removed from the QAFL, by not issuing a new license and giving it to Aspley basically killed the club. Once the seniors went, then a lot of juniors leave as well to go to "a QAFL club". Maybe AFLQ have memories of this (probably not) and dont want to destroy the Vultures completely?

Didn’t zillmere go broke when the deal with Kedron wavel fell through?
