I figured since we have a VFL thread then we may as well have a QAFL thread where we can keep an eye on local teams in our community as well as our academy prospects and former AFL players still playing at the local level. For those who don't know, the Gold Coast has four teams in the QAFL (Broadbeach, Labrador Palm Beach Currumbin & Surfers Paradise) and two teams in the QAFLW (Bond University & Southport). As a city we're highly competitive with at least one Gold Coast team often making the QAFL Grand Final each year and we had a really good run recently of 4-5 consecutive premierships. Some recent additions to the QAFL that should get people interested are James Frawley (PBC), David Armitage (PBC), Jacob Townsend (Broadbeach), Lachie Henderson (Labrador) and Andrew Boston (Labrador). The academy boys probably worth keeping an eye on this year are Jed Walter (PBC), Ethan Read (PBC), Will Graham (PBC) & Jake Rogers (Broadbeach).
Round 1 of the QAFL starts on April 1st and it sees a Grand Final rematch between Broadbeach and Aspley in Brisbane, Labrador hosting hosting the Sunny Coast boys from Maroochydore as well as a Gold Coast clash between Surfers and Palm Beach. The QAFLW round 1 starts on April 15th and will also see a Grand Final rematch between UQ and Southport in Springfield as well as Bond Uni hosting Maroochydore.
