Probably like most businesses struggling to attract staff. Problem is they have had some ripping staff but let go $$$ couldn’t match or pathways not quite right.

Need a savvy leader again that can bring things and staff back on line.

You can see why some competitons in Melbourne just run their own leagues and are very financial.
That I think is the interesting point. How can clubs in melb only charge $250-300 player fees? Yet if you are playing Div 1 it really needs 60 blokes to pay $500 ea to cover costs. Insurance costs should be audited and be allowed to be examined by clubs. Extortion racket I reckon by these organisations. And like SM said generally get 4/5 of nothing from it.

Personally think we have too many umpires per game. 2 is plenty for Div 1 and lower plus use club boundaries (U16 kid on base payment of $50), 3 for state league. This way we might find field umps being more available for the Div 2 3/4 comps.

Clubs in Vic attract big $ for sponsorship. Qld clubs compete in a crowded market.

Not too many up here put their hands in their pockets for clubs.

SM did/does and has the business nous but the average clubby wouldn’t have put their hand in their own pocket in a long time beyond buying a beer and burger. Sure they give of their time but it’s the $ that the Vics attract that make a massive difference too.

Yep that’s all very true.

Who’s made the prestigious list?

I can't recall exactly, but basically a bunch of AFL executives who wouldn't have any clue the challenges faced in grassroots clubland and chaired by Dean Warren - who is exactly the right guy to be chairing it, but would have trouble getting a word in while the execs talk KPIs, participation growth and other jargon, while taking all the credit for the health of the game in QLD that is really thanks to all the volunteers in club land who keep the game thriving despite... (i'll stop there, I might get myself in trouble...)

I agree totally with what you saying Thommo. They need cross section of representation from all walks of life and varying competitions.

I see they have localised Friday Night Competitions, something is telling me now Coorparoo has gone from Div 1 they may be tempted to rehash all the community footy again. Might put everyone into North/South/Central is what I’m hearing. Won’t be 2025 but big chance 2026.

Poor Dean.

Yeah be careful! High impact, high honesty, intentional. That’s 2-4 weeks in the naughty corner.
