So I just finished watching the replay (couldn't wait until tomorrow this time) and the commentary was genuinely hilarious. Over the first half it genuinely sounded like it was richmond vs an opponent tbd.

Watching the TV replay cluggas contribution was a lot more apparent than what I originally noticed live, though by the same token I felt like the intangibles put in by bez didnt shine through as much. I also didn't pick up that cam had two goal assists watching at the gabba, he played an absolute cracker.

Holy shit what a performance. So glad with how they handled the pressure and what they showed, and the fact that they didn't celebrate like they'd won a granny at the end of the game made it all the better. Heads on very straight. Go the lions

Also, what a fantastic feeling this must be from zorks. He couldn't get drafted for so long, ended up getting picked up as a very senior draftee and then languished as a hyper talented, sometimes petulant player on a frankly shithouse team for the better part of a decade. I'm sure he would have had points where he wondered whether he was ever going to enjoy real afl level success, but as he's matured as a leader the team has matured with him and now he's captaining a top two club that'll be playing a home preliminary final. Those two seconds of intense celebration he allowed himself after the siren were fantastic. What a fantastic lion, this is such a worthwhile reward for the man who is unquestionably our best player of the past decade

Was it Berry that set up the block that freed up Charlie for the goal from the stoppage? You might not be having the best night, but it shows you can still have a big impact that you don't register a stat for.

So happy for Rayner and the media attention he is getting with them saying he has "arrived". Exactly what we needed. It was only a moment but it was massive.

Remember a couple of years ago some were scared of drafting him because he would want to go home, now he is bossing around Cotchin in a final. Go son.
The best thing about that passage of play was Rayner slotting the goal shortly after. Showed the bif but kept focused on the game. With Ports win, only one of WC/Coll/Geel can make the semi ... sit back and enjoy.

Fox sports player ratings are a good laugh. Jack Riewoldt and Shai Bolton got a 7

Richmond must have had a big night, only two of their players were below average.

Just watching clips on the news, big pile on and the umpire is screaming "MITCH ROBINSON!" :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy:
And he was on the bench at the time! I knew he was persecuted! ;)

How sweet was that :) Took every shot they gave us in the first half (especially second qtr) and then returned fire with a couple massive goals before HT. That gave the boys the belief.

What's more that second qtr we got under their skin and they didn't like it.

Thankfully Dusty slowed down in second half as he was killing us first half. Still need to put more time into him but I thought when he went forward later in the game we played him well one on one.

Lester was epic down back a couple times - couldn't be happier for him. Probably thought his time was coming to and end a few seasons back but he has remained loyal and he has played Hodgeys role to perfection this year.

The BIG O!! For me in a team that all played well he was the best. Just got involved in everything and you can see he is growing in confidence with every game. Always presents and makes a contest and probably only error was dropping a mark in front of goal. 17 other teams have no idea how good he really is.

The kids stood up tonight when it counted. Rayner with a superb goal and that deft little handball for Charlies goal. Also not taking any shit from Cothcin. Starcevich with some lovely kicks out of the backline. Going to be a gun that kid. Young Coleman tackling his heart out and stopping there transition from half back. McCluggae and Berry played out of their skins as always. Happy for Hugh to finally get a goal.

Richy and Harris rock solid down back. Mids were down early but rose as game wore on - Lachie was excellent after qtr time and Lyons never plays a bad game.

Get to see Charlie get up the ground and change it up. Tigers fans won't be bragging about Grimes having Charlie in his pocket any more. Hippy was excellent - demanded the ball and took some great contested marks.

In a rubbish year that was super special. Now rest up and be ready for next instalment in 2 weeks.

Go Lions.

I just watched Damian Hardwick's press conference and I thought he was fine, disappointed with the loss but that is to be expected, still showed a bit of humour.

He said >

The better side won on the night. Brisbane are an outstanding side.
Their system was better than ours tonight.
They're a very good side, they were 2nd on the ladder.
They absorbed the pressure better than us, they have a great back 6.

Surprised that he said they want to play their next final v Dogs or Saints at Metricon and not the Gabba, their Hub is only 400 meters from the ground so understandable.

Three years ago we were the team that coughed up cheap 50 metre penalties. No longer.

Richmond lost this match, They could have won it but after watching the first half again I have a few thoughts.

Our first goal where McCluggage handballed it to Rich was an example of laziness on the Tiger's players part or a lack of planning by the Richmond coaches. Everyone in the Derrinalphil household was screaming at the TV, ‘Give it to Rich”. I could not believe that none of the Richmond team leaders saw what we were obviously going to do. It didn’t happen quickly and Rich has scored a ton of similar goals.

The two 50 metre goals were exactly the sort of things that young inexperienced sides do when they are put under pressure. They crack. Richmond cracked. We don’t anymore. We got in their heads but concentrated on the game. Rayner, very quite for most of the game, had that wrestle with their captain but minutes later played like a number one draft pick should. and kicked the goal of the match.

But I must admit three quarters the way through the second quarter they were the better side, or more accurately Dusty was killing us. I thought we needed a plan to reduce his influence.

No, we didn’t, because Richmond played him in the forward pocket for most (all?) of the second half. I was incredulous when at the start of the last quarter he trotted down to the forward pocket. Why would you put the best player in the league anywhere than in the centre to start the last quarter? There would have been only one better place for Martin for a Brissie supporter and that would have been on the bench.

Now for the second half.

The key stat from last night:

What a fantastic game Rich played. Started us off and the right foot and was just great throughout.
You know what I reckon , Richmond lost the game it in the first minute they paid no respect to rich left him unmarked at the 50 and he drilled the goal that set the tone for the rest of the game. Gave us the lift from the start

tiger arrogance cost them

Very disappointed to hear this, love AB.

Is a genuine Tigers supporter and is/was their No1 ticket holder there for a while.

She told the story of her playing one of the Slam finals and the Tigers were playing in the GF at the same time, her coach was giving her the thumbs up during the match to tell her how they were going.

Spot on, IMO the early game Big O holding the ball in the centre square on Shai Bolton also set the tone... and the resulting 50 meters and goal from a yips type distance amplified it.

I let out an almighty roar when Neale kicked that goal and flexed his arms, that was an epic moment ! Rode every bump, tackle, missed kicks from my lounge room - what a game ! Fantastic effort from all Lions players, take a bow !

Still can't wipe the smile off my face this morning. Oh YEAAHHHH WE'RE BACCCKKK !!

Took BigO's vote and gave it to Lester. Lester taking on Riewoldt completely changed the dynamic in defense for us. Gardiner was free for Martin and Andrews did whatever he liked as Chol didn't make him accountable.

So underrated Lester, glad to see him go so well against Riewoldt, fantastic effort.
