Vale Sergio Silvagni
:carlton:

Carlton hero, Carlton royalty.

It feels like losing someone you know and love.

Respect.
Vale Serge.

:ike his off-spring, played with heart and is a part of our heart and soul.

We lack key-backs but jettisoned his grandson, if he played with the same passion all other Sivagnis played with we'd have our Liam Jones replacement.

Can somebody right this ship?

Vale Serge, huge name in the sport.
It’s fitting that we are playing you this weekend. Such a tragedy we all can’t go and acknowledge his passing.

Very poor. Goes to show how little people there know the history of the game. Anyone who saw him play saw a real Champion.
Jezza, Big Nick, Croswell, Gould, McKay, Walls, Robertson.

In the engine room making them look good was Sergio.

Glad l was one. R.I.P.

The clearest memory I have of Serge playing apart from the 1970 Grand Final is his final game for the club which was also Barassi's last as coach in Round 22 1971 at Princes Park against Collingwood (I was there). We won that game, let's hope we can beat them again this week and honour him in that way.

I remember reading an article about that game.
Similar to the 1970 GF. About 7 goals down at half time but we came back and won.
Great finish for Serge and Barassi.

Take the Irish version of a wake as the best way to celebrate the life of a departed one.

If they do a minutes silence at the ground on Sunday... what crowd that's there should start singing the club song to send him out in style!

Or if you are feeling down and want something to help you mourn.

Once again... the Irish really come to the party for celebrating the departed!

What a legacy he has left. Vale Sergio.

P.s. I had no idea how good looking he was when he was younger!
And people think that SOS's boys good looks come from their mum...

The Silvagni-Bailey courtship is definitely up there in the good looking couples stakes.

The mark of a life well lived is to leave a legacy for the generations to follow. From a poor Italian boy from the tough streets of Carlton (pre-gentrification) to Legend of the game who played with a toughness the sniping kidney punchers will never understand, to sire of probably the finest multi generational family of VFL/AFL footballers ever.

The personification of never shirking a hard ball and playing with passion and determination, Serge will long be remembered in the annals of Australian Football. More importantly he will be loved and remembered by his family.

I was a pre-teen when he retired, but I remember a game or two that I saw the famous triumvirate of Nichols, Silvagni and Gallagher line up for the Blues. Dad played against him somewhere back in the 50's and would never hear a bad word about him.

Commiserations to the family. I'm sure you are proud of all that Serge achieved, on field and off.

Rita wasn’t sold short in the looks department either.

I may be one of few who saw most of Serge’s games. I’m 68, saw maybe close to 200 of Serge’s 239 games. My dad used to have me on his shoulders on the press box wing from when I was 4 or 5.

I remember in 64, when Serge was skipper, and we had, until then, our worse ever season, I was at every game except Geelong at Geelong.

Serge was a hero to me. His strength and endurance were the things that stood out, along with his uncanny ability to hold out an opponent with one arm and mark the ball with his other.

I met him later and found him a lovely man.

RIP, great man.
