Good Morning GIF

The sun just feels a little warmer and brighter this morning. Good morning fellow Northerners, the world is a better place at least for today 👍

Now that I've had a chance to savior the win,

I thought Xerri was huge. His work rate and desire not to give up really good signs for the future.

We showed a defensive structure that help the back six enormously. Was very satisfying to watch eagles get the ball look up and see no clear pathway forward, this slows the movement of the ball and helps the back six position themselves to repel the incoming ball.

Our tackling has improved. Just loved Archers tackle on one of the Big eagles, was like a terrier on a great Dane, but highly effective. Took the arm and force a ball up. More of this please!

Fisher is improving week to week.

Desperately need to work out our forward structures, had multiple opportunities in the first Q to score but were too busy tripping over each other. Can only imagine how many goals Linsey Thomas would have kicked with so many crumbing opportunities going begging.

Still a way to go but showing improvement none the less.

Ok. I know in my heart there will come a time when I don’t weep uncontrollably after a North win but I’m not there yet.
A few observations:
1. The total-lack-of-defensive-pressure has been turned around in the last month. It’s improved game to game and was very evident for the first 3 quarters.
2. This midfield will be dynamite at some point.
3. The leadership went a long way to redeeming itself yesterday. Best game from Jy since round 1 last year and even LMAC was inspiring with his workrate and physicality.
4. We still badly need someone who can take a contested mark up forward but if Pink can continue to spoil defenders marks this well then we can manufacture a few more winning scores this year.
5. X has evolved into an absolute weapon.
6. Ironically (and indeed hilariously) George is probably the new favourite for the Rising Star. He is simply mesmerising to watch.
7. How many outstanding games does Ford have to play before he is starting 22 player? It seems he has to fight like a mongrel dog for a gig.
8. We should forget about Wines and get Yeo
9. We still have Griff Kerch and the goat to come back into our best team
10 Archer brings his dads courage and intent to the footy and needs to play every week.
11. The focus on the final minutes and the debate over the Jay’s holding the ball decision is hilarious. A lot of Roo brilliance and Eagles incompetence went into that win. It wasn’t a 5 minute game. It went for 2 hours.
12. Lastly the obvious

West Coast fell heartbreakingly short of a remarkable comeback, with a controversial free kick to North Melbourne ensuring they broke through for their first win of 2024.
The Eagles were down by 33 points when Kangaroos skipper Jy Simpkin kicked the first goal of the final term within two minutes.
But it was Simpkin’s second goal with two minutes left in the game that will be the talking point from the Kangaroos’ 11.8 (74) to 8.17 (65) win at Optus Stadium on Saturday.
Simpkin was awarded a free kick for holding the ball on Eagles star Elliot Yeo at the top of the forward 50 before slotting the goal which stifled the home side’s momentum.

It was ultimately the climax of the incredible match between the two teams that have shared the past three wooden spoons.
For the first three terms, West Coast were smashed around the contest, losing the clearances 37-16 before a thrilling final term surge, when they turned the tables to win 14 to 11.
At times the only reason the Eagles were in the game was because of their defence, with poor entries by North Melbourne playing into Jeremy McGovern and Tom Barrass’ hands.
Meanwhile, North Melbourne’s defence, that had not held a team below 100 points for the season, conceded only two goals to the final break, although the Eagles helped with woeful goal kicking.

They turned the game on its head with an incredible six-goal run that was sparked by ruckman Matt Flynn, who kicked his first in Eagles’ colours from a ruck contest to awaken the more than 40,000 parochial fans.
Once the fans came to life so did the Eagles, who went from a side which looked one-paced into a team that was running on top of the ground.
Eagles coach Adam Simpson shook things up just before three-quarter time, sending forward Liam Ryan into the middle to add pace.
It worked perfectly as Ryan’s speed upset the Kangaroos structure and it allowed the likes of Yeo (23 disposals and eight clearances) and Dom Sheed (16 disposals and five clearances) get into the game after struggling for three quarters.
A sour note came late in the final term when co-captain Liam Duggan was taken from the ground after a head clash with debutant Jack Hutchinson.
For the first time in a long time the Eagles went into the game expected to win, but for most of the day they weren’t the team who wanted it more.
Kangaroos forward Nick Larkey found form with a season-high five goals, including the only three of the third term when the visitors broke the game open.
North Melbourne hunted the Eagles midfield and had more contributors as the home side felt the absence of the injured Tim Kelly and suspended Harley Reid.

Simpkin (28 disposals, five clearances and two goals) was leading the way, while the star Luke Davies-Uniacke (25 disposals and three clearances) had a strong third term having struggled early with a tag by Sheed which was bizarrely dropped after quarter time.
Their future also looked bright as Harry Sheezel (30 disposals) and George Wardlaw (21 disposals and 10 clearances) spread across the ground, while ruckman Tristan Xerri (19 disposals, nine clearances and 32 hit-outs) was besting the Eagles new combo of Flynn and Bailey Williams.
It was a tough watch early, with the first goal coming after 26 minutes when Jack Darling was awarded a free kick in a forward ruck contest.
It took sheer will power for the Kangaroos to find their first major, with their entries inside 50 not giving their forwards any chance.
They finally broke out the back of a pack for Jaidyn Stephenson to boot one from the goal square, but it came more from persistence than skill.
Both sides were making comical errors defensively which cost them goals but otherwise it was tough to see either side scoring.

A monster third quarter from Davies-Uniacke and Larkey broke the game open for North Melbourne and they looked well on their way to victory when Simpkin kicked a long-range goal within the first two minutes of the final term.
But the Eagles flicked a switch and began powering past the Kangaroos, who looked stunned and tired.
Yeo was monumental with nine disposals, five clearances and a goal while Waterman became a force in attack booting three goals.
There were few Eagles who didn’t do their part as they retook the lead for the first time since the second term.
Then came the moment that will be dissected all weekend. With the Kangaroos charging hard and the contest fierce, Yeo took possession of the ball at the top of the 50 when he was caught by Simpkin.
Despite seemingly having no prior opportunity, Simpkin was awarded the free kick and slotted the much-needed goal.
Paul Curtis booted the match-sealer moments later in an incredible conclusion.

So, ump completely missed the free to George, was slow to penalise Yeo and the whingers are still whining.

But honestly, the treatment they used to get from their pet maggot seems to have brainwashed them into the belief that a loud enough call of "ball" is enough to win a free kick on demand.
Boooo to you

Do you think Yeo made a reasonable attempt to get rid of the ball after he was tackled?
We wasnt able to. Both arms and the ball pinned to his body and on his knees (so unable to even try to release the ball for a kick). We see this situation result in a ball up 99% of the time, even when the player is on their feet. I dont think 'making an attempt' was a consideration by the umpire..I think he deemed it to be dragging the ball under which it clearly wasn't but I beleive that was the umps rationale. Anyway, it was paid, we move on.

WCE fans are probably the most delusional in the league.

They think they are world beaters all of a sudden since Harley Reid literally won 3 games off his own boot.

Their depth sucks and they are an old list and will have 10+ retirees soon.
Outside of Reid their youth just isn't very good.
They're our bunnies!!!

Doesn’t sound like you have moved on.

Give 6PR a ring with the other idiots blaming umpiring (and Simpson and Gaff) for that loss.

Why can’t you lot ever be gracious in defeat?

Do you think Wardlaw should have got a free kick for high contact 2 seconds earlier?

Hahaha what? Jy was huge early, set the tone of the match from the start. What an odd and incorrect assessment

Edit: never mind I misread, he’s talking about ldu there…
However it probably still applies, ldu was solid early, had a quiet second then took off again.

Yep, love that we kicked another one and shut everyone up. Don't agree with the free? Oh well, here's another goal.

The rule is that if you are off your feet and drag it back it must come free.

It didn’t so they paid a free.

Yeo was on the ground and dragged the ball back and should have knocked it forward.

I don’t particularly like it and they don’t usually pay it, but I also thought the tackle prior to this was high, with Yeo’s hands clearly on Wardlaw’s shoulders and even falls on his head as they go to ground.

Clear miss by the umpire that was just as controversial.

Just woke up and West Coast are still shit!

I love how they keep throwing Reid back in our face when everyone knows he’s leaving that shithole for a big Melbourne club, the first opportunity he gets.

Watching yesterday solidified one thing for me. Thank **** Brad Scott is not at the club anymore. Imagine if Gaff had taken our offer? He would have been the bloke that burnt draft Picks on Polec and Gaff.

I didn’t think it was a free kick initially against yeo but after the replay, definitely drags it in, that’s htb. Is it a bit shit? Absolutely, those get missed a lot, but as you say, George being taken high just before should’ve been paid so evens out I guess.
Again as I said earlier, suck shit coasters!
