we can not say until we see them both.

who would of been the better pick. if we drafted hanson last year then o wopuldn't think we pick up pears this year.

Tayte Pears - Easily !

Has More pace than Rance.
Has more Agility than Rance.
Can play in more positions than Rance.

The Closest current AFL Regular player to Pears is perhaps Brett Jones from the Eagles. Can play on tall or Medium Forward and has good running ability and Pace.

I liken Rance to.. Harris from Bullies!! Also a very good player.

Essendon Back line could be the WA State of Origin: Ryder, Pears & Myers. Gumbleton & Reimers also can play through the back line. hmmmm intersting !!

Exactly how i see it because of all those key factors you listed.
I rated Pears slighty ahead of Rance before the draft and didn't really think he'd slip to our pick, so im very happy that we ended up with Pears.

Also, would of been better if this had a poll to go with the thread mate.

i think pears!

f-ing hell not again! Obviously we think Rance is the best hence recruiting him. Most people with knowledge think Rance is the best, I have no knowledge but looking at Phantom Draft of people like Bergeron and Weaver...ect ect.. they had Rance > Pears!

If you want a defender who is more interested in running around getting easy kicks then Rance is your man.

If you prefer a defender to focus on keeping his opponent quiet first then Pears is your man.

Rance will fit in well at Richmond.

They're hard to compare because they're different types of tall defenders.

If you were looking for a guy to definately hold down a key position, then Rance would be the preferred option.

If you were looking for a guy to play the role of an attacking tall defender, Pears is your man.

I'm happy with Pears, and Richmond fans should be happy with Rance. That's all there is to it.

i liked that footage of Rance.....he seems to be very attacking, although they didnt show him doing anything defensive.
Thats not to say he isn't im just saying they didnt show any.

His kicking while seems to lack a little bit of penetration generally hit is target or gave his team-mate advantage.

he looks like he has a very strong build that would be ready for AFL football already.

Overall im very happy with Rance at #18. could be a very godd player for us and we sure need some players of his type in our backline.

Give me Harris over Jones anyday:D

The Tigers' main need has been for a Harris type key defender to hold down bigger power forwards. We already have 2 attacking style tall mobile defenders in Thursfield and McGuane who may be more similar to the style Pears is said to play. Hence, (to someone who has seen neither of them play) from the description, the selection of Rance is an ideal pick. For the Bombers, who have Mal Michael, the Pears type option seems more of a need.

A win-win situation. No one has doen "better", both have apparently filled their needs.

Now whether either player can play up to the hype here, that's a different matter. Ask in 4 years.

rance apparently has question marks over his pace which saw him slide, the consensus was that running 3.2 over 20 metres was simply not quick enough for a rebounding KPD, Pears however run a 2.96 for 20 metres.

Pears has my vote.

I reckon they are both rippas and both clubs would be happy with who they picked.

Rance will probably play seniors right away and while Pears might, being bottom aged and with our KP defenders currently, he will probably take a bit longer.

Yea both are I wish we did pay pick 19 for McMahon and got him via the PSD for free, so that we could of got both he and Pears. But we wouldn't of got him anyway as Selwood was the next on our list!

Rance is not slow lol. Unless you've seen him play you have no idea.

His not one of those electric players off the mark that would play on Fevola types. However I dont think it will be the much of a worry if the club plans on using him at CHB with Thursfield at FB. If he develops the massive engine required I dont see why he couldnt be a good CHB in the AFL.

Pears is a little different. He is quicker over the short burst and has good turning speed but probably is more raw in terms of development. His got nice skills and links up. Both clubs are winners with their selections.

Excactly, we have Thursfield to play on the Reiwoldt/Pavlich types, Rance would be more suited to the Hall/Brown types.

Rance and Pears are two totally different players. It's unfair to compare them.

Once he gets going he's alright, it's just off the mark he's not all that flash. Apparently he got around 3.2/3.3 for his 20m sprint didn't he?

As KJ said, he will probably be used at CHB on the bigger power forwards where speed off the mark isn't really and issue, so as long as he isn't used deep and plays around CHB he should be great for you guys.
