So good. Love a nice gig. Seeing Viagra Boys in a few weeks. Full Jazz festival lineup should drop soon, seen Herbie Hancock dunno, three or four times already, he's unreal. Sounds like his current tour is headhunters-era. St Vincent announced a tour, she's amazing too. Lots of stuff to see!!!

What are concerts like now and what do you mean when you say they don’t sound real?

I just meant the song writing was better and less technology, its not the same. Im sure there are some good live performers out there still but you dont get this sort of energy from a band and crowd anymore. I saw Muse a few years ago, they were alright but this is a different level.

I reckon you are probably right. In any era there is a vast amount of crap but there must surely be around the same percentage of talented people.

If you know of anything in Melbourne that might be good and would suit an older, uncool type who doesn’t want to be punched by a teenager on some of the substances associated with aggression, but would be good music and good atmosphere, I’ll happily take you recommendations

They are a bit before me but always thought it was a great song, the lady singing the back ups has an amazing voice.

Yes. That’s why I liked the song. Reminds me a bit of what the B52s were going for - they will be even further before your time, and their early stuff was a bit before mine

Have found myself getting into a lot of bands before my time of late, convinced that lead singers of 70s and 80s have the best voices of any era. I think with bands later than that you get disappointed somewhat watching them live coz a lot of them dont sound anywhere near as good as the studio version where as back then they sounded amazing live still coz they couldn't use as many tricks with technology. What you heard on the album was pretty much what you got in person.

70s is my favourite era of music. As far as pop music goes most of the stuff post millennium is too over-produced for my tastes.

Yeah, they do a good concert, I wasn't like this sucks, but they absolutely sound better on the album. Saw Kasabian before that and they were good too but similar to Muse, just not studio quality.

Yeah, there's something to be said for how the old gatekeepers helped establish a monoculture. A lot more iconic movies, bands etc because of the limitations of the time.

The media landscape is so oversaturated these days that cultural juggernauts like The Beatles and Michael Jackson just don't exist in the same way.

I love the B52s. Such a talented group and they never shied away from having some quirky, campy fun.

I also love the voice of the auburn haired lady. So distinctive and somehow sounds early 60s.

I was so pleased with myself when I heard REM sing Shiney Happy People and I thought how much the woman on that track sounded like B52s. And it turned out it was the same person!

There's heaps of amazing music these days. Just from australia off the top of my head: party dozen, mildlife, glass beams, zoj, gut health, big yawn, Andrew gurruwiwi band, heaps of shit. Nick cave in his 60s still doing it, his discography is as impressive as anyone's.

Rock music is mad: idles, Viagra boys, pigsx7, heaps I'm forgetting. Heavy metal is unreal.

Jazz is more mainstream than ever, kamasi Washington, yusef dayes, keyon Harold, Robert glapser, amazing music being made. From aus: Barney McCall is unreal.

Hip hop incredible: Kendrick, Travis Scott, j hus and Stormzy from the UK. Soul music: Erika de cassier, that shit is endless.

Electronic music has never been better.

It's so good right now, I hate it. So much dope music being made.
