Forget the flappy collar, if they just had that as the normal template collar (the box) I'd be thrilled.

Does anyone else get the feeling Dangerfield is going to make this all nauseating?

I don't know if any of you have been watching the Stanley Cup playoffs but geez the Vegas Golden Knights have been putting on amazing pre-shows for their first home games each round (had my doubts about the team and brand before they started, but they have really embraced the show that is Las Vegas):

First Round

Second Round

Western Conference Final

Stanley Cup (Video from Game 2 - Game 1 had no musical performance, but the same beginning)

Stanley Cup team introduction (from Game 1)

Been keeping an eye on them as Marc-Andre Fleury is a champion. They've taken pregame entertainment to another level, looks like quite an experience.

There are lots of 'alternate universe's doing the rounds on this board at the moment, but what is the perfect Australian Football League? Imagine if the entire history of football clubs was wiped away and you had to create a new league from scratch. Personally there would be 4 victorian teams, 1 ACT team, 1 New South Wales Team, 2 Queensland teams (one up north in cairns or townsville), 2 Western Australian teams, 2 south australian teams, 1 tasmanian and 1 Darwin team.

This makes a total of 14 teams.

My alternate universe that I've been working on for a while looks at a similar format. Eventually I'm looking at expanding to 14 teams with the same sort of alignment. Currently there's only 12, with only three in Victoria and just one in Queensland. That's up to the 2005 season.

Neat! I was thinking about 1 Queensland team but the numbers would otherwise be odd with byes and all that crap, but went against it.

I think at least for the Melbourne teams one would be based out of Dandenong and play out of a redeveloped stadium. 2 teams in the CBD would be good enough, with one playing out of Cragieburn of thereabouts. Tasmania would equally share games between the two cities.

Good topic, and a pretty good selection. I'd prefer 1 more team each for Vic, WA & SA, & only 1 team from Queensland for a 16 team comp.

Personally my next two teams would be another Vic team and a Western Australian team. Sa aren't big enough to warrant another just yet

I'm considering an alt history portfolio - a merger between the VFL, WAFL, SANFL and TANFL at the end of 1981 (basically the same as Fizzler)

also considering a merger between the NSWRL and BRL
Should be interesting. I didn’t add the TANFL to mine since there were a few different leagues in Tassie and it seemed like because they had so many leagues they were on the tier of the VFA. I’d love to see your rendition.
Also the NSWRL and BRL merger would be great, I’d love to see that too.

You're probably right: but I feel we're tantalisingly close.
Talent is far too sparse in SA for this. This year SA have exceptional talent in the U18s but that won't last very long. Why is this important? Because much like Gold Coast and GWS had to draft local players in their mini-drafts. Team SA3 would struggle for years. Probably wouldn't get a win in their first year. Also would struggle for fans too.

Well, with everyone announcing their portfolio projects here, I may as well join in.

So, I've been working on another alternate history...well, it's sort of an alternate history.

The concept is: What if the NBL's boom period in the 90's never faded? What would the league look like today?

The biggest problem I'm having with it is trying not to look like I ripped off Freight Train's presentation format...

Man looking at the Socceroos squad is grim.

In 2006 fine, we had a golden era, but we had the vast majority of the squad and all of the first team playing in the big 4 European leagues. Now we have Mooy at Huddersfield Town, Ryan at Brighton and Leckie at Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga. And that's it. We have a bunch of players playing 2nd tier in European leagues, but the rest are wasting away in the A-League or Asian leagues.

It shits me to tears that we've given 70 f***ing caps to Mark Milligan despite him being a poor footballer who spent his entire career either playing A-League or chasing cheap and easy paydays in Asia. Why is Tommy Oar playing in Cyprus after being such a promising player at Utrecht?

What happened?

The A-League was supposed to be the dawn of a new era for Australian Football. We made the move to Asia to get regular international ties at a reasonable quality. Soccer is a far more popular sport than it was in 2006 IMO. How are we so terrible? Is it just that the A-League has provided talented footballers the opportunity to play football for a living without going overseas, so nobody bothers anymore? Why do we have this vacuum of talent despite making an enormous long term effort to grow the game here?

I'd have a flat rule that the Socceroos squad is selected from European based players. No ifs, no buts.

I agree with many of your points. The A-League recycling merry-go-round is so boring and predictable. Players turning out for four different clubs in the same league over the course of their career is ridiculous.
