A question based on the teams people have posted and those players under discussion. Is 2012 the return of the mid-priced strategy? Teams are not filled with them, but it's common to see teams with 3 or 4, whereas the last couple of years it was almost exclusively GNR.

Is it there is value, where last year people could see none?
Is it a lack of confidence in this year's rookies?

Lacks year's winner had a few midpricers - Fyfe, Rockliff, Garlett and maybe others, so wasn't completely dead last year.

This year i think there is definitely a viable option to get a couple of mid-pricers. I'd back quite a few to really jump up to premium status.

At the same time, being the last year of a new team we have a plethora of rookies from GWS to choose from, so maybe the GnR approach should be adopted given the many rookies likely to play.

would also love some info on both grimes and magner.
dees fans?

Grimes' injury was meant to be only ~2 weeks (i think they said he might play last round of nab cup) so he's still in my team.
Magner tweeted that his finger was fine and should be back "in no time". I still haven't seen confirmation on whether it was broken or just dislocated though which would make a big difference.

Fingers feeling alright, thanks for all the messages!ill be ready to go in no time!

*Back on Grimes after a 50 in a half this week* hahah

As for @Bombermicks post of midprice being the 2012 year?

I think this whole idea of a midprice vs Guns and Rookies and silly. Is a midprice team 30 midprices? is it 22 and 8 rookies?

The whole ideology seems alot of smoke without much fire. Even a Guns and rookies, i question that no one picks a genuine midpricer. As shown by my other post you are aiming for top 15 players in each position (excluding rucks). The highest priced player that is a draftee is 180k (Patton)

So anyone priced from 180k-430k (is a forward midpricer - eg: you arnt sure they will certainly be keepers)
180k-505k (mids)
180k - 370k (backs)

If your not picking anyone in those ranges/definition which may be different to each individual than your not making the most of the value that is possibly on offer IMO. Finding a player priced in that midprice range that becomes a keeper is golden.

The answer, find a balance and find the value in each area of the 4 positions.

Edit: I still use the words GunsNrookies or Midprice strategies generically speaking, its just so the bigfooty community can understand what im trying to say.

Good post, but I don't think it's completely silly. You could have a team filled with mid-priced players who have far more "value" than guns, but unless a large percentage of them become keepers you won't complete your team.

At the same time, you have to find the value (Shiels, Rockliff, Fyfe last year) or you have little chance of winning the car. So most will go gnr with a sprinkling of mid-pricers, as this year's salary cap almost forces it.

Maybe thinking about it

Picking 22 midpricers and 8 rookies could mean you increase your chances of picking enough midpricers that become keepers (dont require trades).

Than use 24 trades, i think you could at least get 12-14 upgrade premiums with smart and good timed trades.

So potentially if you think you can find 8-10/22 to start with than it could be a plan.

You still have the rookies (8) making you money.

Maybe its a case of going full arse, not half arse? interesting qualm

The terms "Guns n' Rookies" and "Mid-priced" are used generally by Dream Teamers to clarify what type of strategy they are implementing. Either predominantly Mid-priced, or predominantly Guns n' Rookies.

You won't ever see a team that is completely Guns n' Rookies without blurring the line in what you consider a "gun/keeper". You just can't afford every top 10 player in their respective position.

You'll rarely see a completely Mid-priced team also. People will want a couple of the elite players eg. Swan, Ablett, Franklin etc. for captain material. Plus, there is so much value in Rookies you'd be crazy to pass up a cheap midfielder that could become the next Barlow for say, a 300k priced Masten.

My teams generally consist of the G n' R strategy, with a few midpriced players selected for 1. Their value (they could become a keeper) and 2. They're more likely to be best 22 than a fringe rookie.

SEN said Grimes will play against Port this week.

Toot Toot!

Great -_- ;) I was tossing up between Grimes and Waters a few weeks ago, then Grimes gets injured and my decision is made easier. Waters then gets 90 against the Saints from 78% game time in a heat affected match with reduced quarters and I'm sold. Now if Grimes scores well this week, that's another headache to deal with.

Even under your best case scenario, this team only finishes with 14 premiums. Even if you managed to find enough value across your initial selections, you're surely overtaken by teams that finish with 20-22 premiums.

Besides, traditionally there are few mid-pricers that justify overlooking a rookie. Last year Fyfe, Rockliff and Shiel would have been great picks. Perhaps Redden and Savage. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few, but I doubt anyone can find 22 mid-pricers that will all smash it and allow easy upgrading, or not needing upgrading at all.

It's my first year taking DT seriously, I've always wanted to know what a good average score is and also what average the winner of the AFL DT Comp had?

Well week by week is obviously very dependent on how the popular goes.

i.e. Swan has an 80 and everyone has his captain along with a few other stinkers and getting to 1900 might be considered a good score.

Generally speaking you want around 2200 a round which is an average of around 95 per player + captain.

Re: Random Question Thread (Part IV)

I am having trouble with the Dream Team website. I am trying to make changes to my team, i click trade but the list of players on the right doesnt appear. Is anyone else having this problem?

Just wondering if there is a Bigfooty DT group this season? i.e. The group functionality which is separate from the leagues...

Axewell will be updating the ladder manually on here like last year.

Yep, average 2200 a round and you'll go extremely close to winning the comp.

Question about the partial lockout during the sydney/gws game... a) Will we be able to look at the other teams in our leagues during this lockout? b) Am i right in thinking there are still unlimited trades for non swans/giants players in the week between that game and the next one?

a) No
b) Yes

Will we be able to move our bench players around between the Carlton Richmond Thursday night game and the Friday night game? like a partial-partial lockout?

I say this as I'm unsure if all final teams will be released on the Wednesday evening. And even if they are will the teams from the Saturday games be required to name their starting 22 or allowed to name extended benches? ...could be quite tricky thing to finalise our rookies on Thursday night lockout if the teams for the last 7 games of round 1, if 14 teams have 7 players on the benches...

Yeah it's a double partial lockout.

Anyone know where to find the % of teams a player has been selected in? Have signed up for the gold trial as well...

If you have signed up, go to player search then click on coaches choice. It should rank all the players based on their popularity and their %'s.

I am guessing that all elevations must be done this week as round 1 begins on Saturday correct?

From what i know you can elevate when ever you want if you have an LTI. Sometimes teams don't promote because they have to pay more for that player to play and be on the senior list.

However if they are going to play round 1, than teams have to promote before that game and have all the paper work done ect.

Well lets hope we hear news this week that Magner and Couch get elevated....
