How did everyone rate the debut of John Casey for the Freo V Port game on Fox Sports last Saturday.

For those of you that don't know, Casey has been a long time NBL caller for Foxtel.

Without any NAB Cup preparation, I thought he did quite OK.

Thoughts?

There were a couple of obvious gaffes pertaining to getting some players mixed up, but did a good job over all.

Pickers and Jako weren't bad on special comments either.

Only two stuff ups I can recall. Then again, I didn't see the whole game.

1 - Telling us that Salopek was a West Aussie. He is Victorian I believe?

2 - When the camera was on Brian Peake (in the crowd, WA legend, son of Docker Brett Peake) and Casey said "..and there is the father of Roger Hayden"

He has a good voice and enthusiasm for calling footy....just needs to iron out a few errors :)

Yep, I assume he got Sal and Surjan (who is from WA, obvs) confused.

I thought he seemed unusually white in comparison...:)

I thought he was ****. Didn't know anything about Port Adelaide and pretty much started to whisper when we came back.

Now correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that he is a Port supporter from way back?

If so, then perhaps he was attempting to make sure that he sounded unbiased.

.

He's a mad Port fan apparantly.

Was surprised to hear him on Saturday but he proved an excellent choice.

This is what networks should have more of. Professional callers instead of ex-footballers who struggle to put a coherent sentence together.

lol, Drew Banfield comes to mind.
I know he was just boundary riding rather then commentating, but he was extremely nervous and could barely string his sentences together.

Poor Banners, I felt bad for him. But he'll be on the boundary for a different reason next week! Well deserved too!:D

John Casey did an excellent job considering it was his first match of AFL commentary. Only aspect of his commentary that I thought was negative was at times, he didnt know the names of the players. I guess that will improve as the season continues on.

Ive always thought that basketball and AFL were pretty similair sorts of sports in that they ebb and flow from one end to the other and he looked at home commentating the game.

Gun. Let's not be so quick as to wave away the continuation here...

i thought he sounded pretty impressive. a couple of mistakes, but no major blunders. i think he's going to go alright...

i would prefer it if i didn't have to look at him. he reminds me of bert newton for some reason...
