From memory was an okay footballer, not that I took much notice then.

However meaningless now because Mark Dawson = Traitor.

no, he was terrible. soft and had no limited skills which isn't a good mix. couldn't kick over 40 metres.

sheedy referring to him as a marshmallow was spot on the money.

and i had this opinion well before his recent activities came to light. i grew up with the old man telling me how bad he was and how he didn't deserve a game on the way home each week (him and alan jarrott), so you can probably link him to a few present day players.

Number 7 if I recall. A reasonably skilful ruck rover who never ended a match with a hair out of place. Good skills but no matchwinner.
These days he'd play for Freo.

Have seen a few of these threads on past players, thought I'd field opinion on the red fox Mark Dawson.

Sadly never got to watch him play, but would be interested to hear from some esteemed posters on his career avoiding the mud at Arden Street. :thumbsu:

This thread is up there. I'd rate it 5 Teflon NimDeans.

In this AFL/VFL encyclopedia of Footballers handbook, says..

Played 1972-1978, 59 games 58 goals. 177cm 70kg.
Talented utility recruited from St Dominics. Dawson later become a director.
(turns 55 on the 22nd of this month)

I only recall him (listening on the HMV) playing in the 1976 finals series.. was injured for much of the time IIRC.
GoKangas, Limerick or Mighty Mick should be the ideal posters to ask.

Speaking on behalf of the Teflon NimDeans (hey, how did I get lumped in with those two?), I am satisfied with your grading of this thread.

Richard Dawson > Mark Dawson.

I agree.

Totally.

In fact, even Smoky still has it all over Marky Mark.

This is what I was going to say.:thumbsu:

All I could add is that he was NOT the team enforcer (more of an outside, outside player) and he looked like he blow dryed his hair before the game and at each change of ends.

That's about right. I first noticed him when he came on in the North-Collingwood game at Arden St in 1974, after Gary Farrant had been knocked out and carried off. Had some skills but tended to hear footsteps.

I was only a kid but I vividly remember sitting on the North race when Gary Farrant was carried off beneath me. He looked like he'd been humanely put to sleep. Don't remember Dawson's game that day however.
Dawson was always going to struggle in the ruck rover position as North had a couple of handy ones in Barry Davis and John Byrne going around at the time.
