The only obvious issue, I think, is my F5-8. Any other thoughts?

To be honest, I think most people are having issues with those spots.

My tips for you would be these:
  • Move Hodge to the backs to replace Grimes who is notoriously injury prone - I still don't understand why people pick him year after year
  • Be careful of Jelwood and Griff. Jelwood is supposedly in a moon boot even though he should be right to go round 1. Griff has had back complaints and that's something to consider
  • You could replace one of Fasolo/Patton with someone like Kennedy-Harris or Lamb .etc. Personally I wouldn't go near Patton (KPP and coming back from injury)
  • I like Hartlett as a player but he struggles with a tag big time (bigger than most at least) and because of this I would rather start with someone who will have less fluctuation in price. A few options would be Beams/Zaharakis/Murphy/Ellis/Cunnington/Mclean/Bastinac. Obviously all of these options have risks attached to them and some of these have the tag issue as well but nowhere near to the tune of Hartlett
  • Lobbe for me is still unproven except for half a season but a lot of people seem to be picking him so if you like him stick to your guns I suppose
Just a few points but you have the makings of a decent side

Hi Guys,

I think I have my team close to ready for Round 1, but will obviously look closely at the remaining practice matches. Any advice on my team would be greatly appreciated!

Cash Remaining: $900

DEF – Mitchell, McVeigh, Swallow, Vlastuin, Suckling, McDonald (Cutler, Fuller)

MID – Swan (C), Ablett, Cotchin, D.Beams, B.Ellis, C.Beams, Polec, X.Ellis (Crouch, Dunstan)

RUCK – Lobbe, Sandilands (Currie, Thurlow)

FWD – Dangerfield, Martin, Parker, Zorko, Dahlhaus, Kersten (JKH, Garlett)

A couple of questions I had in particular:
- Is it a bad idea starting both Swan and Ablett in the midfield and relying on 3 starting rookies?
- Is Dahlhaus a good POD as a 5th forward?
- I'm still not completely sold on Lobbe, would it be worth saving some money elsewhere and upgrading to Minson?

Any advice positive or negative welcome.

I've just picked Lloyd, Georgio and Fuller because I don't know much about the other rookies. I also just remembered that Tex might not be back til mid year so he'll probably change.

You're right here - but at the same time, taking a rock-bottom priced player protects against poor scores. If one of your mid-pricers cop a few poorer scores than you anticipated straight off the bat, you either a) lose cash as they drop in price, or b) are forced to make a trade to save yourself money. With b you've lost ground by starting a mid-pricer that scores poorly and costs you too much. With a mid-pricer you risk losing money to earn a potential ~$150k maximum in most cases; with a rookie you risk earning $5k or some other pissy amount to earn a potential $400k. In most cases it's high risk low reward vs. low risk high reward - but at the same time you jump on a good mid-pricer at the start of the season, you're ahead.

With Daw I think the problem is that he's not even amongst North's best tall forwards; Petrie and Black are locks, if you're playing Currie you also have either he or Goldstein down there on most occasions, and many more than three tall forwards and you end up with a horribly imbalanced forward line in most situations.

You could be right on Cox - stick to your guns if you're confident. As Trav 20 said - back yourself.

My team's a work in process but looks like this at the moment:

Thoughts on this team? not sure if these bench players are likely to get games early.

If anything I reckon your Mids are too strong.
6 guns and Thomas is possible too strong. Are always there will be more rookies playing from the mids, reckon you need to getrid of one; maybe Murphy. I worry about his abilities to score consistently when he's hard tagged. Chuck Ellis or Polec on the park and improve your Backs. Don't think you can rely on Langford getting too many games early.

Yeah I would think its a very dangerous option, most of the rookies will start the season as subs and be slowly introduced to AFL footy so to have 3 you are opening yourself up for some poor weeks. I am not running with either Ablett or Swan, instead loading up on good cheaper mids like Beams, Cotchin, M Murphy, Heppell who should still score 100+ but are $100k cheaper than Ablett & Swan, also have X Ellis, D Tyson starting.

Yep, I agree; the issue I'm having at the moment is just finding forward/back premiums that I'm confident in and don't completely ruin me for the bye rounds. Since posting my team's changed quite a bit already so I have no doubt it'll move around again before round 1.

Thanks for the advice. :thumbsu:

Yeah, I had Hibberd in, he's gone. I'm not going into a DT season with any hamstring issues.
I'm going with the 5 premo and Thomas mids, with Ellis, Polec & C Beams for m7 and m8.

You can blame me for Hibberd - I switched Ibbotson to Hibberd just before game day yesterday. :p

Not quite sold on Beams yet but there's still time. I have confidence in a number of midfield rookies but I'm not keen on paying over $200k for them.

Woo DT is back baby! Here's my first whirl at a team. Got 216k in the bank but pretty happy with what I've got so far.

Feel free to throw some suggestions at me.

Will be looking to swap Kreuzer for Ivan (pending his injury status). Tempted on Hibberd for one of my backline as well.

Wow hadn't noticed Polec going so cheap. Will have to look into him.

Isn't Joey suspended R1?

McVeigh, Mitchell, Swallow, Suckling, Kolodjashnij, McDonald, Laidler, Fuller
Ablett, Pendlebury, Selwood, Beams, D, Trengove, Thomas, Tyson, Beams, C, Polec, Ellis
Minson, Sandilands, Currie, Derickx
Dangerfield, Martin, Darling, Clark, Boyd, Billings, Thurlow, Honeychurch

Any kind of advice or opinions would be fantastic

Def: Mitchell, Bartel, Mcveigh, McDonald, Suckling, Seedsman (Laidler, Fuller)
Mid: Ablett, Pendlebury, Griffin, Dayne Beams, Marc Murphy, Polec, Jack Martin, Tyson (Ellis, Michie)
Ruck: Sandilands, Mcintosh (Currie, Naismith)
Fwd: Dangerfield, Zorko, Dustin Martin, Parker, Bock, Rohan (Kennedy-Harris, Dayle Garlett)

Pretty uncertain about many of these, especially Seedsman, Bock, and the injury prone rucks

Seedsman isn't fit and probably won't play the first couple of rounds. Bock will be lucky to play before round 5 and Griffen has been injured and struggling a bit during pre-season so he would be best as a downgrade option. Perhaps Seedsman to someone like David Swallow and Bock to a Jeremy Lamb if you have the cash?

Hi all

Would love your feedback and tips for my team. One of the guys at work put together a league and it's my first time trying DT.

Many thanks :)

Almost ready for round one. Theres a few players from Melbourne and GWS I'm still considering and am interested in seeing play.
First time playing for money, how do you think I went?
