Amount of GWS rookies is not an issue, as long as your team is structured correctly.

To take last year's example, there are the fast growing cows (ready for cull by rd 8-10), and the slow but surly growing cows that go to about 300k in 1.5 times the time.

A cow is useless UNLESS
1. scoring at almost premium level eg barlow & heppel in the past
2. can be culled to upgrade another cow/player.

Now if you have mid-rangers, who has grown but not cutting it, slow growing cows are enough to convert them to premiums, but if you only have premiums and rookie-cows, then you are stuck - you have to wait until 2 cows mature before you can upgrade.

So those that stock up on guns and rookies (and bottom priced ones) risk the opportunity cost in timing of upgrades, but get more potential 'value' gain. But once again, unless a cow is sacrificed, value is just, paper value.

Apparently Smeldts isn't going to be playing straight away according to some Geelong mates - swap him for Pfieffer. I too had Saad but swapped him out because I just don't think he will score that well to begin with. I will probably be looking to pick him up in rounds 3-5 once I have upgraded a couple of rookies.

Use D Smith as a forward, not a mid. Not sure why Hargrave gets so much love.

Other then that a good side

Why on earth would you have upgraded a couple of rookies by rounds 3-5??!!???
You should be waiting till at least round 6 before you make a trade (unless u need to swap a dud for a gun rookie before their price changes)

Love the midfield and rucks - very strong.

Backline is a bit questionable with Malceski, Lake AND Marty Clarke. I have doubts about whether all will fire. The main question (which I am pondering too) is whether Clarke is a walk up start.

Forward line looks good, although I have my doubts on Goodes this year. Then again, he is a champion and will probably prove me wrong

Boumann is > Gilham. He has a real chance to get lots of games should he shut down the right people.

Agree on the Lewis Masten downgrades. Not worth it. You could get Barlow and Hayes for the price of both

Cheers guys. Think boumann will get a run down back with gilham out.

Appreciate the advice re masten and Lewis. Really wanted to squeeze Lewis in as I think this will be his breakout year. But you're probably right in there not being huge price growth potential.

I'm not convinced Boumann will score much at all if he's playing. Granted most of my experience of him was when he was at the Dogs and he must have obviously improved to get a second crack at it, but I don't know if he'll score more than 50 or so.

I think you could upgrade Pfieffer or Hall seeing uo forward you have 2 of the cheaper rookie options which are so risky. I have the same problem. You could also go Ellis or Mohr. I've got Mohr too, but his NAB Cup scores didn't inspire me too much. Or maybe you could go Giles for a guy like Kreuzer who is relatively cheap with a lot of upside. Considering the money you still have looks a good side to me

I'll do the right thing and offer advice before posting my own side.....

You ask about upgrading? Well I would start with Stephen Hill and get a genuine premium. Next up would be either Lake or Clarke in the backline. Dont leave the cash on hopefuls if you have the cash to spare. Clarke inparticular would be my call.
Other than that, pretty solid side dude.
