Surely OMac back with cox fwd is better then Voss or craberner and that way we can keep a mobile fwd line and I trust omac to do the job on hipwood
Love how posters are undervaluing Voss. 20 year KPF who won the bnf for Essendons VFL team. Fair game regarding Crabby though.

Mrs Clifton has informed me I need to let you know that laconic does not mean what you think it means. It's a common mistake. Laconic means a person who uses very few words.
outwardly languid, maybe. Not sure there's a word that adequately captures the deceptiveness of his apparent unhurriedness. Placidity, maybe?

I’m worried he will trail Hipwood/Daniher to every contents and be out of sync with the other defenders
Cox's athleticism is underrated in my view. He's worked really hard to become a very good runner for a key posiion player in recent times. I agree though its a big ask with the long layoff he's had. to match up on Hpwood or Daniher. I don't think will happen due to JLO's conservative gameplan but playing Cox as a forward for his first game back is not the worst idea I've heard.

I like him as the third tall, let Omac chase Hipwood around all day, play cox on Gardner, Carlton disrespected him so much and just ran off him, that’s perfect for Cox, read the play and go to the best place to intercept without worrying about where Hipwood is.

Does anyone think that Cooper Simpson is in the head light for a debut game on Sunday.
Though only given limited time in the last two warm ups, I thought he showed enough to be close to getting his stripes.

i'm just interested to see what JLo does in terms of the big man structure to fill the Darcy gap and any concerns over Cox's fitness.

i.e.
  • does he have LJ ruck and send in Tabs to the corner pocket for the 3 pronged tall attack;
  • have Reidy come in to ruck and leave MJ forward;
  • add OMac and have Cox play interceptor to take pressure off his body or have the option to move him forward if we only play Amiss/Treacy; and/or
  • assume Cox is fine, MJ to ruck solo, and leave Amiss/Treacy with the mosquito fleet forward.

We usually went with option 4 last year so predict the same R1. But, my concern is there will not be enough goals scored from our forward lines and mids. Only Amiss is assured to kick multiples in that lineup. None of the others have previously been consistently good for a bag (yes, Sunny back in the day). Don't think we will be able to score enough to win, particularly if Treacy is not a goal scoring threat and pressure all goes on Amiss. Need three KPF to foil for each other.
Option 4 is the one that gives me nightmares.

Watch LJ get smashed in the ruck for four quarters, plus small forward line etc etc…I’ve grumbled about it enough.

I’d at least like to see Voss given a go or have Cox included with OMac, to give us some big man flexibility.

Ryan - Pearce - Walker
Clark - McDonald - Aish
Johnson - Young - Brayshaw
Walters - Treacy - Frederick
Switkowski - Amiss - Emmett
Jackson - Serong - Fyfe

Sharp - Simpson - O'Meara - Voss
S: Erasmus

  • Would prefer to give Cox more of a lead-in than bringing him in underdone, feel like Moose and OMac match up fine for Daniher/Hipwood.
  • Conversely, I think Walker is critical otherwise we start to look very unaccountable against their small forwards.
  • Might seem brutal, but I think Voss has gone past Tabs.

As much as I'd like them to consider bringing Reidy in to keep Dogga up forward, I've made my peace with it not going to happen.

It'll be a fundamentally midfield game either way - we took them right to the line last year, and Fyfe/Young/Johnson give us some much stronger bodies around the clearances.

Put me in the quietly optimistic column IMO.

I like it, but you’re dreaming. JLo is too conservative to be that attacking.

Realistically, he could have used that Port scratchie to test out a few more forward options (ie. give Delean a bit of a longer run / sample Odin Jones as the deepest fwd), but no he wheeled out Tabs again, he made Banners the sub, left Treacy to battle it out solo and fail. So, rather than experimenting and discovering something new that might create an unexpected avenue to goal, he tries nothing new, we learn nothing, repeat a flawed forward structure and get pantsed anyway.
100% spot on, no flair or daring in his thinking and this flows down the game plan and attitude

Still tipping Brissy..

We have to go fully Malcom Blight with personnel this weekend if we’re a chance. Possibly Cox to the fwd line, Switta or JOM or both to the backline. Just throw mud at the wall and see what sticks. We may be a chance if we go blighty and throw the magnets around. Crazy Fagan is a simpleton so probably wouldn’t counter.

I’m not sure about this Switta to half back. He is freakin very small (yes I know Caleb Daniel is small) and Switta has no depth in his kicking. The injury to Wagner hurts as he has good skills and is a running machine. You’d probably push Jordan Clark up to half back and get Walker in the last line of defence.

B Aish - Pearce - Clark
HB Ryan - Cox/OMac - Johnson
C Sharp - Young - Brayshaw
HF Freddy/Simpson - Traecy - Emmett
F Switta - Amiss - Walters
R Jackson - Fyfe - Serong
I JOM - Erasmus - Voss - Simpson/Sturt
S Walker/Sturt

The way I see it, injuries don't do any favours for the confidence of the fanbase and most likely the players as well, I completely get that.

The way I see it though? The positive we can take from this is that it allows a player that's hungry and has something to prove to come in and show that they can contribute something. Fringe and depth players should be licking their lips right now to try and cement their spot in the team.

I think you play Walker and Cox tbh. The club has been building these guys up to play round one for weeks - they at least think they know what they’re doing so they’ll both play.

I actually thought Walker looked really good against West Coast and was stunned he didn’t get some minutes against Port.

Walker Pearce Ryan
Clark Cox Aish
Sharp Brayshaw Johnson
Frederick Treacy Switta
Emmett Amiss Walters
Jackson Young Serong
Hughes Fyfe JOM ** **

Think one of those last two spots is between Reidy and Voss and the other between Simpson and Erasmus. Not really too sure which way they’ll go on Friday. I’d say they’re all named with McDoanld on the extended bench on Thursday tbh.
