OUT: Foley (dead), Ryan (moron), Duggan (dead)

IN: Shuey (Ugh), Gaff (Yuck), Hurn <---- The leaders are back errrbody, get ready for some 'intent'.

I'd say there should be no reason whatsoever for 35yr old Shannon Hurn to be playing in a 1-7 side during a full blown rebuild phase, but with Duggan also dead, i'm not sure throwing a Hough type in the mix would be so beneficial, with only really McGovern and Barrass around to support.

Naish comes into the starting 22, Nelson (if he simply HAS to keep getting games) can be the sub.

If not Nelson because of the photo's, Winder can be sub.

I'd like to see Winder get some continuity. Ideally another 2-3 games minimum to see if he can show something (I thought he was OK on the weekend, but still has some improvement required to get up to AFL standard - he is very young though, only about 10-months older than Hough).

Out: Duggan (knee), Ryan (stupidity), Foley (buried somewhere underneath Optus), Rotham (to sub)
In: Hough, Shuey, Gaff, Naish (from sub)

Backs: Edwards, Barrass, McGovern, Witherden, Nelson, Jones, Hough
Mids: Gaff, Naish (wings), Kelly, Redden, West, Clark
Rucks: Jamo, Williams
Forwards: Darling, Dixon, Waterman, Cripps, Winder, SPS, Shuey
Sub: Rotham
Emergencies: whoever’s left. Trew, Bazzo, Wiley

Gaff and Naish to the wings replacing Foley and Nelson. Nelson into the backline replacing Rotham. Hough for Duggan straight swap. We’re a bit tall in defence still, but the Giants are fairly tall themselves.

Shuey in to play primarily forward, managed minutes, whatever. He and SPS can do some chop out minutes in the middle.

Yeo would benefit from some WAFL time but it looks increasingly likely the WAFL won’t go ahead.

Surely they give Winder a run at it.

I thought he had a couple of moments that showed he has some AFL qualities.

I think the AFL has thrown us a bone there. We've called on them in other games when we still had fit players out of the team (due to team balance). The alternative is to not field 22 players and the AFLPA would probably shut the game down due to health and safety risks. It would also put the issue of reduced playing lists in the spotlight, which the AFL doesn't want.

We could also argue that a bunch of soft tissue injuries are as a result of player disruption from COVID.
But in those games we still had some players in the protocols. So I think at least having at least one (or more) in there is the minimum criteria. If we have none this week, it's unlikely they'll allow it.

Should the number of AFL Listed Players that are available to be selected for either AFL or State League / Second Tier matches fall below 30 due to the combined impact of COVID Health & Safety Protocols, normal football injuries and general unavailability, then the Club may activate a player from their COVID Contingency List to be available to participate in training sessions only.

Should the number of AFL Listed Players that are available to be selected fall below 28 due to the combined impact of COVID Health & Safety Protocols, normal football injuries and general unavailability, then the Club may activate a player from their COVID Contingency List to play in an AFL match. Noting the Club must prioritise the selection of AFL listed players where reasonable.

Note: If the Club has less than 30 AFL Listed players available, but this is not due to any player being subject to COVID Health & Safety Protocols, then the Club will not be able to activate a COVID Contingency player.

Interesting. That would be amazing if we can't field a team due to injuries one week.

They’d just force us to play guys like Trew and Bazzo who aren’t ready for AFL but are on our list and able to play.

See for example the two games Tony Notte played in 2008.

Pretty sure top ups could only be called upon if there are players in H&S protocols, not purely through injuries.
The AFL have already made it crystal clear they do not want to postpone games under absolutely any circumstances if it can be avoided. Ultimately the most important thing for them is 40-something warm bodies playing in front of TV cameras.

It doesn't matter what they might have said the rule is, they will just bend it when it suits.

Hell if we didn't even have enough top ups available I'm sure the AFL would just let us recruit more.

Call me crazy but I reckon we might win this game. Certainly a better chance than our last few games. GWS look completely cooked. (but we do too.... 🤔)

You are crazy.

With L.Cameron now gone, the shackles will be released and GWS will rediscover how to attack again.

Greene alone will outscore us.

So of our 44 man list, we currently have
15 players already ruled out
2 players subject to tests
3 players who didn’t play on the weekend who are unlikely this week (Yeo, Strnadica, Williams)
1 player reportedly in doubt (Duggan)
2 WAFL players unlikely to be called up (Bazzo, Trew)
21 likely starters.

Getting to 26 will be interesting.

Now waiting for GWS to give us Brander as a top-up for the week.

Damn I completely forgot this is the caretaker's first game, we're cooked in that regard alone. GWS players will be playing for their careers, at least early on.

Bringing Hough back in is a big positive for me, young fella needs more & more game exposure...don't care about win/loss now.
Pump more games into him. I have really liked what I've seen so far. Who knows the trajectory, but he seems to take it on.
Want to see more, including without cover from experienced team mates.
