Fair points and I don't disagree BUT I still believe we don't even try to improve certain things.

I don't care how good a player is if they can't look up and hit a target in space they shouldn't be playing. We simply don't look. It seems obvious to most (even opposition coaches) yet Voss doesn't address it

The other key point that was obvious last night is how much the Hawks get in and shephard, screen, create space for teammates and do the simple things well. That is coaching and structure NOT talent
You watch Walsh kick..

Every time he kicks he looks at the ground and tries to kick as long as possible.

He’s not interested in kicking directly to a team mate. Maybe he doesn’t have confidence in his kicking accuracy so he goes for maximum penetration somewhere towards our goal.

Is there any chance we look at another coach in the next month if things continue ? Any one got intel or strong gut feel?
Hmm let's think about this. As a club we've got a terrible reputation for a lack of stability, particularly in the coaching sphere. How would the optics look if we sacked a coach after 6 rounds who had taken us to the finals in the last 2 years.

Voss won't bag a player publicly. Don't read too much into that comment.
He doesn’t need to ‘bag’ a player
Just needs to give genuine feedback

That’s what the pressers are for

IMO nothing wrong with saying ‘ he tried hard but just wasnt able to get too involved in general play or on tge shore board’ and then he could say ‘ we all know he’s a champion and I’m confident he’ll bounce back next week’

If he says Something like that…

Charlie will know coach has his back

I really worry about our bash and crash style of footy. IMO it’s not sustainable. It makes our already one paced mids become even slower as the game wears on. I feel like it wears the side out and by the last quarter we have not a lot left in the tank.
Hopefully we are on just a slow build into the season. But We’d wanna start moving over the next couple of weeks or it’ll be very hard to get back

Nothing would surprise me, Mitchell - remember he had a habit as a player of sneaking up behind Oppo’s star players behind play and corking them in the thigh, pretending to have accidently run into them causing them to be out for the game… but happened to keep doing it to the identified best player.. (Fyfe was one he targeted, I remember the footage)
Yep he was a Mongrel in a team where he had many friends, he also won 4 flags.

It seems we all complain we have no mongrels and our players don’t play with mongrel but then whinge about other players doing it

AFL continues to be one of the most amateurish sports competitions in the world. I thought MLB umpires were shit but AFL umpires are much, much worse.
That's the thing that pisses me off. They are a major sport in the country, but they still umpire the game like it's a bush league. Or even worse, fix the matches through umpiring because of their gambling connections. The AFL commission is a ****ing major joke and the umpires shouldn't even be umpiring VAFA games.

Whilst I wouldn’t push for a coach to be sacked after a few rounds, the optics shouldn’t ever be a consideration.

Whatever happens this year, our club needs to address the issues and make the right decisions, regardless of how it looks

Most of our mids are under pressure when they kick because they struggle to get separation, or haven’t got anyone around them to give to that can get separation and therefore allow more precision with disposal imo

Bloody Hell

“If you look at the way we defended, we defended hard. [The] tackle rate was up. We defended our 50 really well. Our forward of centres were really strong.

But we also know we’ve got a little bit of growth to go. So, how do we become that just a little bit more efficient off those plays? We got plenty of looks. There’s no question on the looks. So, we’ve got some marginal growth in there to get after to be able to consistently apply it a bit more often.

“Sometimes just take your moments, don’t make it more complicated"

WTF does all this mean? He has had the side for 3 years!!!!
When did Brendon Bolton walk back in the room? Only thing missing were the "green shoots". Don't get me wrong we simply cannot go back down the sack the coach route, but I am definitely beginning to doubt Vossie's position
And on the Bulls Eye with Arrow!!!

So come sunday night either Sydney will start the season 0-3 or Fremantle will be 0-2

Anyone calling season over for either of these two?

Sydney have played in 2 of the last 3 grand finals and 7 grand finals since we last played in one. They’ve been more than successful. Fremantle may be the only club who are comparable to us in terms of disappointing their fan base. Great company to keep.

We are supposed to be in a “premiership window” after a slow and painful decade long rebuild for which we have 2 finals win to show and a lot of disappointment outside of 3 months of great football in 2023. It won’t be long before the window closes.

The AFL is harsher.

He commits unacceptable acts every single time he takes the field. Why should we overlook them and give him credit for fighting back from the own hole he dug for himself?

Raise your standards.
Do you same the same thing about Mcgovern?

I don't want to see Young in Navy Blue again

That first contest was embarrassing. Should never be tolerated

Young is unplayable and should only play if Weitering, Harry and Charlie are all unavailable. McGovern is not far behind him either. Haynes was poor in round one but I’d play Haynes in the backline ahead of Young and McGovern 100 times out of 100.

In hindsight we should have send Gov forward and kept SOS back. I hope next week if Harry is fit we put SOS back to defence and drop Young and possibly even McGovern who was almost as bad. Alas I don’t think Vossy will drop Gov.

Who is … basically all tagging cotrell , fogs , kemp , doc when forward … shites me , I always say we have too many defensive forwards …last night I was with a Hawks mate and he goes your forward line is pathetic and I laughed at who hawks defenders were , they had Sicily , battle , barass , impey , weddle and jiath and we have these scrubs all being defensive forwards .. pathetic … Voss needs to change it up
Play Moir, even Lemmey ahead of Young

Young is not a forward, he has kicked 1 goal at VFL level over his career and only a few at AFL level

It's not as if he hasn't had a crack playing as a forward for a few quarters here and there either

Even Gov would be a better option, as long as he is the 3rd

Pardon the intrusion.

Watching from the ground live last night, I thought Carlton has the framework in place to be a top-8 side. I was generally impressed with several aspects of the team.

However, it appeared the collective group lacked confidence and weren't willing to be direct with ball-in-hand. I was surprised on a number of occasions, when Carlton players had the opportunity to play-on and be offensive, they opted to chip-kick sideways or backwards. That must have been extremely frustrating as a supporter?

I walked away thinking, 'thank god for that', because we weren't in the best form ourselves.

Walsh was a shadow of his former self last night. Was pedestrian, no intent and jogged a lot behind the contest. Not sure if physical, mental or both but has aged like an inverse Benjamin Button movie on fast forward. Again hope it's temporary.

All these comments...mine included of 'if only kicked straight', 'if only did that like last year', 'when this clicks into gear', 'on a 'insert weather' does really well, when he is available'. Coming to the realisation we are miles off unfortunately.
Funny, the missus and I caught up at local pub for a wine while kids had stuff on after a v busy week. Missus was on the phone to a friend so I was BF browsing. As I was reading Arrows multi thread tome and was thinking of a proper reply, who should roll in for a beer. Motlop, Carrol, Durdin, Williams, Cripps, a few wives, couple of boys I didn't recognise.

The irony of reading a reply from can't remember who replying to Arrows what would you do post, and 5 of the 7 guys in the pub were on his hit list Of trade or move on.
Little fellow got on his bike though, was at home. He got a pic at least. Motlop, lovely kid.

Can you imagine Arrow pacing up and down the sidelines muttering bounce the ffs, bounce the ball ffs... :D
at 7am on the morning of the game already at the G … bounce the ball to himself haha , I honestly believe some people like arrow and a few others Jimmae and soap come to mind would be decent assistants … they would argue all day and fight with other assistants but better then what we currently have
