This is the only part of this excellent post I disagree with. The media collectively don't care about our "concerns". They're just sharks ready for a feeding frenzy and the bleating and wailing from some of our "supporters" is blood in the water to them.

What a cynical, disingenuous remark by Caro, as if she gives a flying **** about how Carlton supporters are feeling.

What made me laugh, was when she repeatedly prefaced her questions with the statement "this is not a blood sport motivated question." There is no reasonable purpose for that word choice; unless she was sensitive to a probability that it was, and that it would likely be perceived as though it was.

Completely disagree, win or loss the point still remains. We played appallingly aside from a few strings of play, if we had have won by 20 points I still would have thought the same, our defense absolutely carried our team to be within winning range, everything we do past forward of center is either terrible or extremely predictable. Our forwards are used more so as marking midfielders on the boundaries and that leads to a severe lack of damaging opportunities as they cant get involved in chains of handballs or quick ball movement. Having 4 of them today, even though i thought curnow mcgov and casboult actually played their roles well, just destroys any way of catching a defense in a bad position, the only tools they have is their contested marking and when they are pushing so far up the ground they are taken out of a dangerous area and then essentially become useless for the rest of the play until they make it all the way back to the 50 and then push for a new lead. I believe this strategy could work if we had elite small forwards and wingers, but we don't have either yet, so our game plan should be adjusted accordingly. Collingwood doesnt have any elite talls, so they built a game plan around working with that. We have developed a game plan for a team that we don't have, and that will never result in success unless we have that list. We are essentially playing a niche without the blokes the niche was designed for.

On the bright side, the defence provides hope. Weitering and Jones were admirable. Daisy was very good and Newman did good things. Marchbank working back into the game.

After the siren, the talkative, upbeat Blues supporters all around me fell silent. Too gutted to talk. It felt like losing a final. This is not a game we should have lost.
