Good opportunity to give Garcia time in the guts and rotate West through more. Whether it’s with or without Bevo, I want us to use the season to at least test some changes in the squad.

At some point (not all at once): Naughton to defence. Richards to midfield. Clarke to debut. Busslinger to debut. Dale forward. Williams forward. Darcy as main ruck. Give Bedendo and Cleary a chance before their likely delisting.

Most of them will flop but may as well see how things go. I’d rather that than the predictable rubbish we’ve been dishing up, I prefer my rubbish to be unpredictable

Out : Cody Weightman the downhill skier and to be replaced by the more consistent Cody Weightman

Probably deserves a rev up for complacency but he's the least of our problems.
He's also a pretty consistent contributor despite what some people say. It's not an easy role.

With Libba out can we afford to keep playing Sanders on 60% game time? He either plays and gets at least 70% (meaning he's not as cooked as we fear) or he gets a spell in the reserves where hopefully the competition isn't quite as fierce at the coalface.

I'm still mystified by the Bont fade-out in the second half too. Worrying times.

Out: Libba, Sanders, Dale
In: Harmes, Garcia, Daniel

English won't get dropped. Even if Lobb is fit.
Would like to see what Freijah can do but there's plenty of time - it might be too many youngsters at once if he came in too, especially if it was for someone like Dale or Williams.
Gallagher gets another run but he might need a break soon.

Name me a game that Cody Weightman has stood up and kicked a bag of goals in a important game and against good opposition I love his work but I am yet to see him stand up when it's a important game or an important time if a crucial game to stand up and when he goes missing he goes missing big time

Who have we got left if we go with everyone's suggestions on dropping players?
Bonti [but no good in second half] Libba [out] Darcy, JUH, Ed, Astro, Westy .... [edit - these are some of the few who people haven't suggested we drop]

I'd be stunned if anyone suggested dropping Bontempelli, recognised as one of the best 2 or 3 players in the AFL. If it turns out he's injured that's very different to being dropped.

I probably wasn't paying close enough attention but are you saying people have been suggesting we drop Darcy, JUH, Ed, Astro, Westy ...?

I know we're all a bit discombobulated by last night's surrender, but let's get a grip folks.

Kicked 4 and 3 respectively in the two matches against Port last year. Kicked 4 against the team who won the flag. Kicked 5 against the Giants in 2022 in a game we won narrowly. Now go ahead and shift the goal posts rather than admit that you're full of shit.

No the other way round they haven’t been nommed to be dropped

I’m not saying Cody Weightman is a ‘flat track bully’, but I’ve been as critical of him as anyone on our list. Mostly because he has talent but doesn’t use it very well. I believe he has been badly coached in 2 critical areas. That final against Essendon in 2021 is still talked about by Essendon people and others as an example of staging for free kicks. The fact he was still doing this in that game in Darwin last year, 2023, was an embarrassment. The other area he has been badly coached is flying against JUH or Naughton nearly every game, stupid football. Just imagine if forward pockets were doing this to Dunstall or Lockett? We have 145 coaches and they are full time professionals and this still happens?

Look Fred I don't mind your posts but I really don't want to get into a tit for tat on this. That's a mug's game ... for both of us.

For a start I'm not sure why I'm the one who has to put up the historical proof. If anything I should be asking you to show me the evidence to support your initial allegation.

We could be at this for hours because any argument we put up (like the 2021 EF v Essendon) will be discounted by further qualifications like "oh but it was all over pretty early" or "they weren't decent opposition". As if an EF isn't an important game. As if Essendon hadn't beaten us by 13 points just 3 weeks earlier at Docklands.

I will settle just for going back to Round 2 this year - the game against Gold Coast who had started the season 2-0 and were being touted as a genuine threat this year while we were coming off another bad Round 1 loss to Melbourne. The pressure was definitely on Bevo and the entire squad. To me that was an important game (but I'm guessing to you it wasn't). Anyway Cody made a statement with 6 goals, four in the first quarter. That game was also over pretty early, and it was largely due to Cody.

Beyond quoting one instance I'm not falling into the "show me" trap.

Let's just say I'm happy with my opinion and I presume you are happy with yours.

Do you at least agree that we have far bigger problems at the moment than Cody Weightman?

Im done with Bevo's games, put out a competitive team, a team that will at least compete for 4 quarters.

This trade for a 2024 F1 pick to GC is giving me nightmares.

Weightman isn’t the biggest concern, but he was absolutely abysmal last night. I’m not sure our best players actually GAF.

Nice post and I agree with most of your points. I love Cody but really think he has to go to the next level as a player my biggest criticism of him when he is down he gives nothing when he is up he gives everything. Hopefully that's age and experience and he can turn that around and be more of a consistent player

Whether Lobb is fit or not, it's almost worth a CBA of Bont, Treloar and 2 other mids, given English's timidity last night. Concede the ruck completely but outnumber them at the fall of the ball... *

* Obviously this is a p1ss-take. I think... 🤔
