Leigh Erwin off to Rupo? Was told on the weekend this was a chance and would make sense with the coach connection. Would be a good pick up.

Big news coming out of Broadford with the signing of the Hislop brothers from Abers. Jacob a done deal, just a matter of which other brother goes with him.

Abers loosing a few from the Grand Final side, with another possible RDFL club talking to up 4 as a package. Stay tuned

As I look through the Abers GF premiership team I notice a couple of ex Rupertswood players, could they be on the way back ?

As far as the Hyslop boys go they arnt moving due to some type of fancy business plan, they are coin driven and will be at Broadford due to the amount they are being paid. Terrific footballers and great blokes who are worth every cent.

Preseason numbers been good across the board ?

Would think it would take some serious coin for Rupo or Broadford to get anyone away from Abers. Big for both clubs if they can get it over the line.

Hey Dons, enjoy reading your posts on BF. Your obviously a switched on footy person.

From what I'm hearing Abers are not getting into bidding wars with players being offered bigger money. Clubs like Abers who have just won their 1st premiership in 40 years will always be able to find replacements and have plenty of good kids from the 18s premiership side. Hislop boys go ok but Tom is the best one and is a tough player, but don't think he played last year.
Having said this I have no idea if money is the reason they are talking to some other clubs. Maybe it's something else, as keep in mind there is a few Hislop families and they love there footy..

Some late mail coming through that an ex NSW coach of the year and Romseys 2015 reserves coach Andrew Bubb is firming to be appointed senior coach. Could be announced as early as tonight.

Its not so much about the coin being offered now after the flag, its more got to do with 7-8 blokes who have been on the books for a few years being the last in the pecking order to not receive payments for the 2015 season. The higher calibre names and more recent recruits were the first to be paid, hence a slight shift in attitude from these guys to explore these higher dollar price opportunities. Ethically it is not a good look to talk to recruits for a new season if the books haven't been rectified and finalised from the year before.

It may be a case with some of these guys that being offered and paid $700 a game for 16 weeks might be a better option than say being offered $900 and to only receive it for 8 weeks. $700 or even $600 becomes more realistic and appealing to all parties if a club the player can deliver.

You mean to say that it's true? Guys at this basic level of district football are getting $600-$700pw .... holy hell

Sides keep improving and clubs seem to find a way to fit em in, real balancing act managing existing list fairly with those you want to bring in. The volume of coin and players prepared to move around now makes it a real challenge at local level to manage and get a strong club culture and harmonious group

Thanks Turbo. Probably a smart way to go for Abers.

Is it right that the league is going to stay a 16 round competition? If so, with the exit of kilmore why would it not go to 18 rounds?

I believe that we have at least one new RDFNL life member, and if I am correct he is a worthy recipient, one of the rdfl characters.
Hopefully afl goldfields read this and announce what is the highest honour anybody in our league can receive.
Also no mention on RDFNL website about board construction or access to the annual report.
With today's communication the need to attend AGM and get a hard copy are long gone, after all it should be public knowledge to all even if it is only available on your club website.

Yes and more.QUESTION SINCE WE ARE ON MONEY.Does the salary cap cover reserves players that get paid . I know in some other leagues they get paid between 1/3 to 1/2 of contracted payments so they have a strong reserves and plenty of depth.

Good point could become a good loophole if played right to rest players in the reserves and say pay them more to play magoos then seniors and inturn stay under the cap! Hmmmm so many variables! Who has the better account will win in the end ;)

Think you will find its total senior payments so will cover both seniors & reserves mate.

Well how do you think your league will go due to talk that 2 division 1 teams spent 250k each this year which would put premier at a higher expenditure again with the salary cap.

Hey mate, yes a few clubs will be over the cap but how do they police it. I do think that most clubs want to reduce player payments as it cannot continue like this going forward. I'm guessing 250-280k is a fair cap for premier EDFL at the moment IMO. But agree in previous years and probably next season a few of the stronger clubs will be over this. But in all fairness it's coming down as even the stronger clubs can't sustain unless you get a wealthy benefactor..

Still no news out of Romsey re coach? I'm now hearing Helmers & his assistant Andrew Bubb have been approached by a rival club to come on board. What's going on down at Romsey, as I thought either Helmers would stay or Bubb might be offered the job..

I agree cannot see any league officials telling clubs they cant play certain players if over especially near finals.Would like to be a fly on the wall if it did happen.lol.

Will also be interested if leagues (or AFL vic) go into past payments, as what about if a club pays someone an upfront payment and pays them higher in 2016 and lower in 2017 to say under the cap. I'm not sure how the leagues will do this as they don't have the manpower or finances to go through records..
