If it is and they have knocked back $3000 to prove a point they are incompetent and the President and committee have a lot to answer for !

I heard last night my club knocked back thousands of dollars to clear Hickman to Broadford! They have taken the moral high ground so they can beat their chests and walk around with the big head wobble . Clubs are working so hard to generate income these days not to mention all the time and effort a lot of volunteers including myself put in . To turn down this sort of money to feed a couple of egos is an absolute disgrace! I will never pay for a membership or help the club again should I find this to be fact . Also I spoke with a sponsor last night who told me if this is true the will never sponsor the club again .Totally disappointed!
Might be waiting for the next offer, if you say yes to the first you never know what the second will be, or perhaps send in a counter offer and negotiate.

Obviously the days of a couple of barrels for a clearance are well gone

They demanded $5000 the counter offer was $3000 or nothing ! They chose nothing to prove a point! The most ridiculous decision I have ever heard of in this standard of football!Might be waiting for the next offer, if you say yes to the first you never know what the second will be, or perhaps send in a counter offer and negotiate.

Wow, so glad I'm done with all that nonsense ..... still if they've got $3000 lying around then an extra $2000 across 3-4 home games is not much if this chap will help get em to the big dance.
Go back with $4000 or the $3000 and the old faithful couple of barrels
Agree with Melton Man and Doona here. The days of chest beating are over. Take the cash and bank it to invest in your next recruit or in equipment or even to help cover the losses being made from a very disappointing year. I have said before, Melton Centrals have so much potential with the population they are located in, the two BFL teams are garbage and yet it seems they continue to be run the same way. If you want a different result, take a different Approach! How do you take the moral high ground on a player transfer yet when a player tells your coach where to go during a game you don't boot him from the club you let him back in!!!!! Good on you Melton Man for taking a stand.
Maybe give your president or football manager a ring and have the discussion with them! I'm sure it would be a better avenue than using this forum to express your disappointment.I heard last night my club knocked back thousands of dollars to clear Hickman to Broadford! I am pretty sure there is abit more to it than just take the money. no one would have a clue what goes on behind the scenes of the club other than the committee. As for the player telling the coach where to go during the game there was alot of criteria for him to meet before he got another game with the club and obviously met the criteria from what i know he was suspended for 2 games and missed 4 because he didnt meet the criteria until then so i would say the club has done what was neccessary there. What would you accomplish by booting him out of the club ? All that happens is he goes to a new club and all is forgotten.Agree with Melton Man and Doona here. The days of chest beating are over. I have tried that in the past only to be told that there is a lot more to it . In other words leave the running of the club to those elected . Bottom line is Hickman doesn't want to play at club/ Centrals are disappointed in Hickman and for good reason. All bridges are burnt between both parties so don't be emotional about it make the best financial decision for the club and move on .Maybe give your president or football manager a ring and have the discussion with them! I don't have a problem with what you have written however we now live in a different society . The young people of today are all about themselves they are selfish always making excuses and the words commitment and loyalty are rarely in their vocabulary. They don't care if clubs make a stand in most cases it's all about them and the cash ! So when a club signs a player they must take this into consideration because gone are the days of purely playing for the jumper . The only loser in this scenario is my club Centrals.Really the player is contracted so it's completely up to Melton what they want to do. They have held up their end of the bargain so they have the right to do what they want. Seems obvious to take the money but who knows what's happened behind closed doors.
Melton have every right to stand up for themselves, they have fulfilled all of their obligations. From what I understand the player contacted at least three opposition clubs offering his services while he was still playing. Making a stand might be their best option.
Have to agree that the word loyalty when it's contract time is upheld by only a few and players push for as much as they can get I guess again the points system is meant to keep players at clubs and reduce there points overtime and clubs will find it hard if these players continue to chase dollars without commitment perhaps long term contracts 3-4 years with back ended payments could resolve some of this stopping players from leaving reducing there points and being paid a larger % in there last year ???I don't have a problem with what you have written however we now live in a different society . If Centrals is your club as you say then you would think trying to help would be of more benefit! Surely getting on here and posting info about Centrals and Broadfords dealings (astoundingly accurate details) and talking to sponsors about these deals is not the best way to go about it!I don't have a problem with what you have written however we now live in a different society . Is this the same person who claims Hickman was suspended when he never was? So many rumours. Club sounds bitter.Maybe give your president or football manager a ring and have the discussion with them! I'm sure it would be a better avenue than using this forum to express your disappointment.
Not a rumour!!!Is this the same person who claims Hickman was suspended when he never was? So many rumours. Club sounds bitter.
3k is a lot!! And plus they'll be saving money on him from match payments. The kids good at this level, he isn't Wayne Carey. Don't bleed another club if someone wants to make a change.
Let's hope the kid comes back one day to the club, he is from Melton after all. I want to see him back and so do the supporters but if Melton are bitter and asking for a supposed 5k price and don't pay it what happens then? Hickman doesn't play and Centrals miss out on 3k, both parties lose essentially. If they don't get anything for him well i won't be sponsoring them next year. Why would any sponsor back a club that's knocked back 3k-4K from a rival club.

You've gone too far "Melton man". Over selling it now.
A more appropriate username might be "Broadford boy".

aliases everywhereI applaud Melton for taking a stance. You would be extremely pi$$ed off to have a player leave mid season, especially one you've built a side around. To then also find out he's been in contact with other clubs, just rubs salt into the wounds. Why should Melton help a club they compete against?
At the moment they stand to lose 3K. In the grand scheme of things, not a hell of a lot of money. If you lose the so called Danger6 sponsor over standing your ground, he'll probably find some other pi$$ weak excuse in the future to pull his sponsorship.
Here's a solution. Broadford cough up 3K. Hickman shows his commitment to his new club and coughs up the other 2K. By the sounds of it, it is only 4 games match payments anyway. Melton get their money, Broadford get Hickman, Hickman gets a chance to play finals.
End of rant.
I couldn't agree more, I played with Rex in Ballarat and he isn't a bad bloke at all but he certainly gets around a bit - 3x BFL clubs and a couple of RDFL clubs.Disagree. At some point someone along the line has to stand their ground against blokes just wanting to chop and change clubs all the time...especially between clubs in the same league. People and clubs whinge about players chasing cash and changing clubs so it's about time someone stood up

And what if there is no sign onFrom my experiences it's not a "so called figure" you put on a players head but what was given to originally sign at Melton in the pre season. If he signed a 2 year contract and got a specific sign on, then it's my view that amount should, and usually is reimbursed to "possibly" broker a deal. If they wish to leave after 1 year it's usually 50% as long as they give enough notice so you can recruit a replacement..
BTW- Not sure whoever potted the other Melton clubs, but that's totally uncalled for. Yes they mightn't be travelling all that well ladder wise, but good decent clubs with some ripper people still involved. Always make you feel welcome at Melton Bloods or Melton Sth if you head down there on a Sat arvo. Remember they continue to stay in a strong comp rather than move to the RDFL which is a level
below. Give them some credit..
And what if there is no sign on
