Hey guys!
It is really nice to see the Christmas spirit beating in the hearts of many on this forum.. everyone is supposed to be up and about, enjoying the season and great company, yet there is countless, pointless pot shots .. it's hard to sift through some of this pointless negativity to read the posts that have vital substance.. it's insane.

Broadford has proven that if a club is in trouble, on and off the field.. with the right dedicated people, can turn the club around .. I've spoken with a number of people recently and we've spoken about the admiration of the success the club has been able to achieve in such a short space of time .. results on the field is a bonus.. what its been able to achieve off it speaks great volume and an example that any club can bounce back to be successful.. the signing of Deano is amazing.. he and Skip are two of the nicest guys you'll meet in this competition .. and on a coaching level.. we are spoiled with great people in Senior positions.. Broadford will benefit greatly with those guys.. especially off the field.

Romsey has done really well with the signing of Andrew Bubb as coach.. I had the great pleasure of spending Saturday afternoon with the great man, talking life and footy.. he's very switched on.. a fantastic guy and is a great ambassador for the club.. he mentioned the compliments he received from people in town at a fundraiser in Romsey on Saturday morning.. that it was great that he was putting his face out there as senior coach.. it's exciting!

Lancefield .. it's nice to see Leanne Backwell take over as Senior club president.. Tony has done an amazing job over the last few years and it's exciting to see Leanne succeed him.. I've had the great pleasure of working with her over the last few years and she's been nothing short of amazing.. very dedicated and always has a smile on her face.. I'm really looking forward to seeing arguably the first Senior club female president in the history of the league in action..

Macedon and Woodend/Hesket are doing really well on and off the field .. the Hawks have a great succession plan in place with John Nicholls shadowing Stu Braddy this year and will take over as president in 2017.. it's a great succession plan that perhaps other clubs could look at adopting.. Macedon is doing well on and off the field .. it's exciting with their recruits and fundraising efforts.

Best wishes to all over Christmas guys .. at least over the next few days, hopefully we can see more positive posts .. :)

Great post. Don't see a lot of this information shared on other forums so well done mate!

Bradford to play Diggers in the GF.

With whats been said about Diggers recruiting, and shuffling points around to leave blokes out during the season to stay under the cap. They might need to find a loop hole that a points cap is only in the home and away season. Hard to make a grand final without fielding your best side in the finals

That's the biggest drawback with the points system . Imagine being a coach and selection committee on the Thursday night before a Grand Final and not being able to field your best side because of points .I am sure this would frustrate them and a lot of( Sponsors) and paying members at those clubs . I know its equalization but it does have it,s setbacks in my eyes.

Agree MM, as most clubs would have to attract in more points than allocated on game day to protect themselves from injury and ensure depth is their. The principles of points and salary caps if genuine have merit, I am not convinced this is the right model, and I have always suspected this is not about the district leagues but about the major leagues. However atleast its a model to be worked on and analysewd to see how it fits best. How are things going over Melton way, Centrals have ability to be the biggest Melton Club, how far away is that???

Melton Centrals are in a great position. I've had a look at Arnold's Creek, the facilities and grounds, and without doubt it will be up as the best in the RDFL.
In terms of players, from reports they will have a new team!

I disagree there are some great footballers IE locals as you say the are much better than these imports that come and go every year .prefer to watch the locals you know than guessing who the others are

Did Santa deliver any clubs anything special in their Christmas stocking ?

Broadford deliver a very early blow in landing the leagues best coach to compliment their improving list and Diggers recruiting to finally land the exclusive flag while at the other end of the scale Rockbank, Sunbury, Romsey and Rupertswood appear to be struggling and although Melton, Wallan and Woodend appear to have recruited heavily realistically all this will do is ensure they are more competitive for longer in games however they will all miss finals.

Diggers
Broadford
Riddell
Macedon
Rupertswood
Romsey

I was more referring to blokes swapping between clubs in the same league
I disagree as it is only a 1 division league only about 30 players swapped clubs in the 2015 season for seniors reserves and under 18s as to the EDFL 3 division league where players are moving all the time from division to division for money.Alot of junior clubs in the RDFL are not affiliated with senior teams so the juniors have to get clearances into the senior league so if you look on the clearance website alot are juniors

That it is a one division comp is why I raise eyebrows at a club captain jumping across to a direct rival. In other leagues this sort of thing is almost unheard of..

It happens in every League even at some stage or another ! Ryan Griffen and Chris Judd just spring to mind at the top Level . There are two sides to every story most of the time its money related but sometimes a Captain past his best football at a local Level may want a change in politics and that change may rejuvenate his passion for the game without the burden of the Captaincy and the backlash from the locals if he had stayed .

MM it doesn't happen in every league, where you have a 6 / 7 year captain just up & leave to go another club that you will play against. This captain probably had a say in the club over these years as well, so would have thought that they would be there to the end of there days

I'm not against blokes changing clubs but my point is there are so many clubs and leagues in the region to choose from but the regularity with which blokes in the RDFL go to another RDFL club is higher than I have seen in the leagues I have played in

Maybe they go to where their mates/mate is playing rather than get a little bit extra at another League ? I think its a credit to the RDFL and the clubs that players would rather stay in this League . You have to admit over the past 2-3 years the Level of professionalism in the coaching and playing standards in the RDFL has improved ten fold . Lets use Steve Burlak as an example he was Captain at Romsey up until 2014 in 2015 he was Co Captain with Mitch Farmer . He has Captained or co Captained 3 Flags at Romsey in the past 5 years .No doubt he had invested a lot at Romsey on and off the field and he Lives Locally . I think he would admit that his best football is behind him at Romsey so why not look for a new challenge at another local club ? Also credit to Rupertswood they did a great job securing Burlak early in the peace . Had Dean Helmers decided he was going to coach Romsey next year earlier on this may never of happened . Why did the Burkett brothers leave Lancefield at the end of 2014 and go to Romsey ? I will tell you why Dean Helmers indentified his needs and chased them hard late in 2014 ! His drive and vision sold those boys a Local Flag which he delivered as did they ! I think more credit should be given to the Helmers-Scobles -Jordans-Sims-Meachams -Andrews and Skip Bray and their committees for backing them into being aggressive in recruiting local talent .

Well said and if clubs didn't chase players coaches and people that can lead clubs they could find them selfs heading down the track of no return

Why is this weird?? It happens every single year in the AFL. Every single year in the VFL, WAFL, SANFL, TFL as well as local leagues like the EDFL. Not necessarily for mates or for money, the reasons do not matter. It's not such a weird or strange or unique thing to do.
