You coached seniors that year doona?Surely you got an invite?

Good memory, yeh I did that year. Woulda loved to have dropped in Saturday but it musta got lost in transit ha ha!!!

It wasn't until about 3pm Saturday arvo when an old team mates dad said "thought you'd be at the reunion, I heard the big Witt is going into the Hall of Fame tonight." Admittedly I did see a screenshot of a flyer on Facebook a while ago, but life's busy and unless it actually bobs up again and again in ya newsfeed you miss and/or forget as soon you scroll past.
Things like that still need to be followed up officially in my opinion as not everyone utilise social media but just as long as it was done officially for those folk the club actually needed/wanted to be there on the weekend then that's good - but in recent times stuff like this hasn't exactly been Broadford's strong suit.

Deep breath .... here we go.

My earliest memory of footy was RDFL about 1981/82 but at that age it was muddy puddles, chocolate frogs and the twirly slide at Romsey.

Mid 80's til 2001 was all Heathcote DFL with a few Seymour (GVFL) and Avenel (KDFL) thrown in - Phil "Toot" Morgan (Colbo) and Grant Wee Hee (White Hills) pound for pound were two amazing small mids who racked up the footy at will.
I remember the first set of live white boots I ever saw were on a Stanhope guy wearing no.18 called Rob Harrison (now deceased) he was pretty good too. To round out a 5 I always rated Damian Slater (Colbo) and let's go with Peter White (Mounts)

Impossible to do major league footy I ain't seen enough of, but Seymour's Jon Solomon (my all time fave country footballer) and Paul Kirby (Tatura) my two best big men in the GVFL, Saad Saad (Seymour) and Adrian Baker (Euroa) the most dynamic forwards given they stood well below 6ft yet played from the goal square. Rounding out a 5th I've never worked out why Paul Newman (Kyabram) never played higher.

Better 5 from Broadford in no order .... the "Bush Ablett" Kenny Beaumont. Came to us at 36/37 won a comp medal in our last premiership and did things you had to see to believe - all whilst being the one to turn the lights off most weeks at closing on a Friday night ha ha.

Chris Dunne was the most gifted Bford junior I can recall, Daniel Fletcher another. Both coulda been (minimum) major league legends if you ask me but the bug of playing highest standard possible never got them.

We only saw him one year but anyone who's heard of Rohan Aldous knows what I'm saying here. Took the best mark I've ever seen during circle work at training in 1991, stood on a guy called Steve Wilson's shoulders in front of the rooms .... just for fun!!! Ro was another who could rack up 40+ a week, but also more gravitated to the district footy scene and may ain fact be the KDFL's most capped league B&F (I think).
Greg Sharp didn't play a lot at home but in his time there he was unreal in a footy and cricket sense. Scraped up a few VFL games when Carlton were flying early 80's I think and played at both ends and thru the middle before his body failed him.

May not be in the best 5 as such but on his day Paul Cleary was an amazing small crumbling forward in the 80's - #12 headband we'd often go goal to goal at kids to watch Clears snap em, bang em over his head etc.

Better ones I've had the pleasure of coaching in some form outside of all that = Tom Butterworth, Chris Leatham (Yea), Adrian Wilson (Yea/Bford), and Shane Jacobs (Kilmore). Those 4 are a CHB, a CHF, genuine centreman and a versatile 6'3" running machine.

More than 5 names I know (tough ask) but a few different "lots of 5" to kill off 20 minutes on a Sunday night ha ha. I ain't seen enough RDFL across my 20-25yrs of memories so won't even delve into that .... over to you Joeblow2

Paul Cleary is Phill Clearys little brother if i am thinking of the same person played his junior football at Coburg Amateurs

Was fortunate to play with Garb Wee Hee - he was a jet. Likewise against Toot he was a ripper as well. I reckon one of the best (although he may not fit the criteria due to VFL games) was Shane Loveless - 15 centuries in a row if memory serves me correct. Tony Beck from Stawell as also a standout - 5 Feeney Medals I think. Rod Southon BFL & LVFL also comes to mind, probably the unluckiest guy going around, 9 GF's 9 Losses. Maybe add in Darren Brock Avenel / Seymour full of class (father of Will from Lancefield)

Correct! played with him & his brothers Perry & Phil, Paul left Coburg VFA & went to Brunswick VFA (traitor), he's family moved up to Broadford, that's how Alan Ezard ended up at Coburg for around six games, before the Bombers picked him up. So you would have to put Ezard as one of the guns in country footy, along with Ian(Bowen)Benjamin (Wallan), Fitzy from Gisborne. Huey Carrey from Melton one of the best ruckman of all time. Anyone see David Fowler kick a lazy 34 in 1997 V North Faulkner?

A mate of mine who played at Seymour, Nagambie and Avenel, rates Rohan Aldous as the best player he saw in country footy Doon.

If it's guy who once wore #24 for Seymour and played CHB for a year with us in 1997 then his time in footy aligned with Rohan so he woulda had the best seat in the house on many an occasion.

Correct butterbing...but the list is never ending. Marty Lakey - Lancefield and Johnny Fitz - Gisborne. Lucky enough to play with John in his final years, and it was like watching Gary Ablett snr in his last yrs....great when they were young.....better when older

More modern times for myself...

Shane McDonald - currently in the MPFNL. Seen him play a few games for Mooroopna back in 2015 I believe, one of the real talents that caught my eye.

Tim Looby - Genuine Gun!

Saad Saad - For obvious reasons! Everyone knows Saad Saad and what we brings to the table. Over 800 Goals in 9 or so years for the Seymour Lions, with modern day defense, 1 on 1 combined with zone defense, this man would have to be up the top end of players in the modern era. Still running amok around the GV to this day I believe.

Cant forget the great Grant Weeks from Colbo. Seen him kick 11 goals in a first half one day. Been highly touted as the best Full Forward outside the AFL, for obvious reasons. Unfortunately doesn't play anymore due to back issues, however this bloke was worth the coin at the gate to watch.

Can concur, saw Weeks play many a game against Gisborne, he was quality and kicked plenty of goals, not ultra tall but built like a Rhino on steroids and most teams had no big enough backs to stop him.

On another note in the "Made it to the grade" stories, I played a State Ammos V State Country game in WA around about 94, Bloke gets up in the bus and during his where I want to go in life speach says he wants to play AFL, Most on bus thought he is full of SH1T. Kicks 6 I think in the game and turned into a pretty good forward for the Eagles was Troy Wilson. Built a bit like Weekes really but not as gooder kick.

Weeks and Jarrod Arentz the best full forwards I saw. Sean Charles is the best I have played with in my time

Two quick clearance rejections so far from Lancefield for Jon Kent to join Melton South, obviously assume it ain't for a once off due to no RDFL this week and more a relocation?

Trying to follow manning after getting sacked has become a support coach at Melton south. Always reckon poor form players trying to leave clubs mid year especially when well paid.... But in this case Melton south have fevola so who is not thinking this through Kent or Melton South? Unless he is going to play reserves as would struggle in bfl.

Agree having two similar style key forwards rarely works. Both genuine full forwards.

If Ash left Lancefield because players weren't getting paid, then Lancefield would have to clear Kent on the next attempt. I don't think he'd be playing seconds unless he's getting paid to do so. Agree he would struggle in BFL. There's only room in the goal square for one big headed ego.

Was a good game, umpiring wasn't great. Both sides not at full strength. Glad Ty Cuffe is Ok, hit his head hard on the wicket area and didn't look good for a bit.
I've since seen the game. Umpiring was great? Are you referring to the netball inside.? I seen the game Rupo v Cats. And very simular once sided in the way of Rupo. Although cats got up in that game. One umpire tried his hardest to sway the resualt. Has any other team noticed this?

Maybe try reading Lemm's post again. He said the umpiring WASN'T great.

U need to go to Specsavers bro, Lemms said the umpiring "wasn't great", not sure about how you thought the umpiring in Macedon v Rupo was biased towards Rupo or anyone for that matter.

Are you having a go at umpires? It's a hard job and they are never ever going to get it correct all the time however we need them and they need the support of all whether good, bad or indifferent.

I imagine they don't like like being called "Cheats" which was why a down the ground free kick was paid in that game, is that bad umpiring or ill disciplined players who cause that crap?
