Am i missing something in regards to riddell? Everyone is riding them off and i dont know why??? If everyones going by the clearence page they are in trouble. Besides matt sammut, the rest riddell are better off without. Add derby and the allen brothers, get robbo and petran fit and look out imo

You took the words out of my mouth. With Peters to come in from Melton south(came top 5 in the Henderson medal a few years ago; not sure if clearance has been put in) and McNamara (soild footballer and heafty loss from Meltons midfield) why is everyone expecting them too slide? 2 kicks off yet another grand final berth last year?

Im not writing them off Mongrel however I think they are just going to maintain rather than improve . I haven't based it all on clearances but on the aggressive recruiting from other clubs and there will be rapid improvement from Sunbury-Diggers-Macedon-Broadford-Melton and Rockbank. I also think Romsey and Rupertswood wont slide they seem to have younger lists and more depth and overall talent to cover injuries than Riddell .Scoble is a great coach and Riddell a great club but an injury to Cariss or Paul Sahlberg to me makes them look the logical slider.

Is it the end of the world of a Riddell some how can't pull off a top 3 finish? These things can go in cycles and you can't win every year. They have lost a heap of seconds players and fringe players. You can only keep those guys happy for so long. Sooner or later they want to play seniors or go to a lesser comp on money. Not much Riddell can do about that.

Centrals praccy against Caroline Springs was a good game. Only a goal separated the two by the end.
Centrals will be a decent side this year. Not going to be easy beats.

Macedon were terrific tday beating kyneton comfortably. My mail was that centrals are very ordinary tho????? Opinions vary

I heard that Kilmore beat Yea by 3-4 goals. Even though it is only a praccy match, it's still a good result for the guys putting in the hard yards to get a team on the park.

How did Sunbury go against yarraville seddon today? They should be top 3 wrfl div 2 so should be a good contest

Sunbury won by 7-8 goals. Yarraville will be 4-6, nothing flash. West Footscray already have one hand on the trophy.

Macedon flying, great work by the cats to get the club up and about. Sounds like the league has come on in leaps and bounds, the RDFL is one of the best breeding grounds for junior talent in Vic.

Try doubling that total. It was between 80-90. Simon Clarke would have outscored them on his own. He is going to make a massive difference to the kangaroos. Especially when he gets delivery from the likes of the murphy's and house like he did yesterday.

I posted this on the NFL thread with regards to getting people back into footy clubs. Thought I would share my views.

Running footy clubs these days is a bloody tough gig even with a lot of helpers..
I know this is only a small thing but I mentioned on another league thread that I have noticed an increase in beer prices at local footy. Stubby of draught now $4:80. Now I always buy from the clubs but to me this is a bit steep. Does this encourage supporters to bring there own beer, sit on the boundary line and then leave straight after the game? Need to get them into the club and entice them to be involved.

Ideas - Throw on some free finger food at 6:30 so if people have kids they can eat something. Put the lights on so kids can kick a footy as that's what we used to do back in the day. Need to get families back into club footy..
Fri / Sat night $5 kids meals..

Anyway it's just a small thing I've picked up on in local footy in all leagues.

Been trying to talk to as many people over the past week both in Kilmore and elsewhere, parent, club and league levels in terms of the Blues current situation.

Last week Wallan were great in hosting Yea, today Ive been at Romsey's No.2 Oval for junior footy and I'm coming to the conclusion that as much as people can use this wank term "club culture," it's the actual Clancy Reserve facility that's not enticing newcomers to town or recruits to hang around long term.

Yeh it's all good to say a lot of "taken good money and run" in recent years, but look at what they've come from. It takes stupid money to entice these blokes away from shit hot set-ups at times, and for this reason I don't think the club as a whole is at fault.

The fact Wallan and Romsey have two ovals got me thinking how desperate Kilmore needs a re-jig, and more importantly from a community angle also. Woodend are having a year off Gilbert Gordon, maybe Kilmore needs to have that Blue Besa Block eyesore condemned by the health department or blown up ha ha, then place a new social room between the changerooms/timekeepers box.

That could in turn see a smaller oval place on the corner adjacent the racetrack intersection and all users from the community could benefit.

Anyway ......... just wanted to gloss over a few concerns and/or scenario's

Sadly, it seems far easier for people to find reasons to "not" help or support club’s these days rather than knuckle down and do it tough. Talking with a wide demographic of folk around town and it seems plenty apparently know what the issues are (happy to pass comment too) but in such difficult times actions are what's required, not words.

Maybe it's this new generation of entitlement, or the every kid gets a trophy era, but doing it the hard way never hurt anyone ..... and let's be honest the town hasn't exactly been littered with football success over the past 35-40 years, so that can't be a reason either.

The once amazing relationship the local senior club had with the private Assumption College over many, may year is pretty much non existent now.

I doubt those students and their parents even realise the impact their absence is having - but trust me it is hurting massively.

Another apparent buzz word these days is “culture” and as someone who has spread himself around assisting local clubs for close to 15 years, I can hand on heart assure you that compared to others, the Kilmore Football Netball Club has little “cultural” concerns.

I would never lend myself to a place that did.

Overiding all of these lesser excuses in my opinion is the major factor I see – the poor state of Clancy Reserve.

To me it doesn’t appear a new plot of land needs to be sourced. With a re-jig there’s enough room within the current fenceline to …

1. Move the entrance further to the north along Kelly’s Lane.
2. Reshape the current oval using existing land at the northern end.
3. A new social rooms/storage to replace the existing blue building (for all users).
4. Place a second (smaller) oval on the corner where the existing social club and old netball courts lie. Easily could be used for Auskick, lower grade junior footy and also some little athletic events across the summer season.

Wishful thinking I know, but when you visit other venues you can’t help but question why such an important community asset, in a fairly large township like Kilmore can't have a facility more reflective of community needs.

Good post Doona, but there's no point building a smaller ground as you want something you can play senior footy on if the main ground needs work. Kilmore's problem is that it has a lot of OK facilities, but nothing great. The cricket ground is great for cricket, but nothing else, the change rooms at JJ Clancy are new and good, but social rooms and canteen are tired. Even at ACK there's no great infrastructure.

Kilmore's best bet, along with the Mitchell Shire, would be to come up with a recreational facility similar to Romsey's or Wallan's that has more facilities in one place. There needs to be a bigger picture view in mind.
