Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

I don't quite agree but that's what this forum is about.

Morgan is a good friend of mine and will continue to be. He has served the club pretty well over the past 6 or so years. When he has been down on form he has seemed to go into his shell until we have a big game, then he will come out and pretty much win it off his own boot. That's the effect Morgs can have on a game. Some people will be happy with his departure, I for one am very dissapointed that he's leaving, but that's his choice and he has made it. I wish him all the best over at Heathcote with Al Meldrum, Dan and Luke Carroll.

We're pretty happy with where the club is heading in 08 even though we have lost a few, like every year we have picked up a few that will hopefully more than fill the gap left by others.

Morgan can play footy when he wants to, but his body language and attitude towards his team mates leaves a lot to be desired .Romsey has a lot of very good young players coming through and i seriously believe the club is better off without his negativity

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

can we all just shutup about Bryden Morgan ...... its the same flipping issue anytime the name is brought up .. can play when hes in form, is/was on big bucks, built like a brick but doesnt use it ...yeh,yeh, im jealous, no coverage of my teams superstars wah wah wah sif we didnt see that joke coming

My point is he plays HDFL now

Go talk about him there..

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Has anyone heard any news out of the Rams lately, all seems pretty quiet down there.
Should they expect another long season.
Thanks

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Early nominations for the venue of the All-Star match?

If we have to use RDFL venues, I'd pick Macedon's Tony Clarke Reserve. Lancefield get the grand final and do a great job, but I think the Cats deserve this feature event.

It's central, is a big ground, will have excellent social facilities and scoreboard, and most importantly, Macedon FC could do with extra cash being based in one of the smaller towns of the competition.

Sunbury's Clarke Oval would be another good option, even though it is not an RDFL senior venue. It is massive and you could set up marquees etc for corporates. Ideally I'd like to see it under lights, but not if the light quality is sub-standard.

Macedon would be ideal venue in october or even april but it is known to chop up at the first hint of rain. Would hate to see an Allstar game ruined by poor ground conditions like a few finals have been there in recent years. Romsey or Lancefield best surfaces in middle of winter.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

surely clarke oval ... or romsey's ground ... by the far the best playing surfaces in this area ... maybe gisbornes ground would be an option also.

Agree Clarke Oval and Gardiner reserve are quality venues, but would prefer to see a senior RDFL club rewarded with hosting this game.

Ridiculous. How can you be better off without a great player?? Youth doesn't replace experience and talent!!!

Agreed! Morgan's departure take's alot of experience and knowledge away from the redbacks! 'They didn't build rome in a day'!

The RDFL will be looking at only RDFL senior grounds to host the All Star Game. Expect the league to announce early in the season and maybe even a shortlist of venues. My vote is for Romsey however parking is an issue at that ground. They have a fantastic playing surface but their visitors rooms do let them down a fair bit. After going to the final there last year the commitee certainly can host an event like this.

Alot will depend on ground Conditions if Centrasl ground comes up with their water allocation they could be an outside chance to host the game as parking is not an issue and you can park cars right around the ground. Also nice area infront of the cricket nets to put some sponsors tents that would be real close to the action.

Will be interesting to see who gets this game and if becomes an annual event will it be shared around ??

I do not know what is worse! your call or Centrals ground?

The rooms are like getting changed in a 'laundry', the facilities within the rooms are 'disgraceful', and the surface in general is 'patchy' at best. If the wind picked up, it would turn the game into 10 goal gale force wind. We want to see the best of our comp, play it at a protected gorund, with the best facilities all round!

Macedon - subject to new club rooms being finished, Sunbury (clarke), Gisborne, and soon to be Romsey offer all of the above. Riddell to an extent offer the above, except a function room!

Romsey is and was the best playing surface by a mile last year, and to me the surface is the most important thing. Romsey it is, for my liking.

And why would we reward 'Centrals' with the ground? Haven't really given much back to the comp last couple years, except goal kicking practise.

A bit harsh on centrals, they maynot have been the best team running about but all clubs go through down periods, and who knows what may happen this year.

As for their ground and facilities i would have to agree, rooms are terrible and i am yet to see the surface in a state that would be up to standard for a representitive game.

For my mind Romsey or Lancefield would be the stand outs, both well protected and have large grounds with fantastic surfaces all year round (a credit to the groundmen), both have great facilities and both clubs have had enough experience holding large games ie finals.

As for car parking space i would assume that their would be a large crowd and i for one would rather see tom, dick and harry out of their car amongst the atmosphere of the day rather than lining it around the fence line. Theirs plenty of parking space at the front of Romsey Park down the shoot next to the scout hall as you first come in that once added to existing parking available would more than surfice, as for Lancefield theirs tons of parking their.

a Large ground that will promote an open game, great surface, well protected from wind to help with skills, great facilities, a ton of people lining the ground for atmosphere, the best players in the league and a couple of cans makes for one hell of a day imo.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

This game should not be hosted by just one club. As the grand final should not be, put all clubs that want to be involved into a hat, pull out a name for a job, bar, bbq, canteen, raffle. There is not enough for all clubs so perhaps we could do the same with Grand Final day. Clubs that missed out get the call later. Or better still do it in reverse, now organise who gets what on GF day and a consilation for not selected clubs get the intraleague.
Why should a club with the best facilities and ground always profit from the big games. Some grounds and facilities are maintained very well by councils while others can be neglected.
Give clubs like Centrals, Rockbank, Sunbury and Riddell a chance despite their ground conditions

Are they gonna come back the next day and help clean up?

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Let's face it, and everyone will say I am biased, but Lancefield is by far the best ground in the competition to host a major event. It ticks every box. The change rooms are not large, but no club has big rooms. The social facilities are adequate and the ground is large and is in mint condition. The Tigers are about to put up a wizz bang scoreboard too. You can't separate Romsey and Lancefield's surfaces this year because both will be perfect. If Romsey didn't have such pox visitors change rooms and small social rooms, it would be pretty much on par with their arch rivals. Kilmore and Wallan will also be in the mix this year with brand new change rooms. With all the work going ahead at Macedon, the Cattery will be a premier venue in terms of social facilities and change rooms. Yes, the ground has chopped up in recent years with lots of rain, but HFF assures me that the couch grass will be magnificent at Tony Clarke Reserve. Although Romsey and Macedon are shire run reserves, a power of volunteer work is put in to make it all that much better. Lancefield I believe is the only independent park/reserve left in the Macedon Ranges Shire. Sunbury Kangaroos and Melton Centrals get the raw end of the deal in their respective shires because their "bigger brothers" in the BFL get all the good stuff. Riddell is neglected by the shire for no apparent reason, although the benefits of recycled water will be seen in a couple of years. Woodend's ground is great in March, April, September - but a quagmire any other time of the year. It's no one's fault, the ground is simply located in the wrong position. I still believe, long term, the Woodend Racecourse Oval would be the best situation for the Hawks' senior body. Money is the big say. Council won't shell out the cash. Rockbank is stuffed because of their council, won't give a water allocation. I'm no turf expert, but that whole ground needs to be ripped up, resewn and started over. But it needs recycled water to keep it in quality condition. Diggers Rest, with its recycled water, is a pretty good ground, just need some wind breaks!

I am a big believer that the venue with the best all round package should get this game. This should be the showcase event next to the Grand-Final. The Riddle League has some great grounds with character. That is the best thing about this league, each ground has its own personality. Romsey with their dodgy visitor rooms, Kilmore with the wet and windy conditions. And Centrals with their portable rooms!!!. One thing that all of the clubs need to do is work together to make this the best it could be. If Lancfield get the game this year because it is ready made to host this game it does not mean no other club should get to host this game. Every one needs to support the little clubs like Centrals and Rockband and Macedon to a degree. The league will only get stronger if these clubs can have cash injections like these days !!!

I cant wait for this game though it will be a fantastic day and a credit to all who will be involved. This is a first in Victorian football to my knowledge and one that can only help improve the name of the oldest football league in Victoria

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

East V's West ground pick IMO,

Ground size = Macedon - Parking, ground surface ATM.

Ground Surface = Romsey - Change rooms.

Total Venue = Lancefield - Am I the only person in the RDFL who can see that the Lancefield oval is not FLAT!!!!.

Other candidates Kilmore - Wind factor and the Oval not being flat.

Melton Centrals - Turf cricket wicket (hardness) , Change rooms.

Diggers rest - Parking and wind factor.

Riddell - Oval size.

My pick if the game was played next week Romsey.

Down the track in order, Romsey Macedon Riddell Lancefield.

If it was on a rotation system, this is how I would do it.

Macedon, Wallan, Romsey, Kilmore, Woodend (have back-up ground), Riddell, Lancefield.

Oh and HFF, why does a ground have to be perfectly flat? I'm sure most, if not all grounds in this comp are not perfectly flat. Kilmore is the obvious one, along with Gilbert Gordon, but most are pretty level.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

i just saw on RDFL website mohammed kakkours clearance got refused..

not a done deal?

would sting a bit if kilmore cant get him, hes a bit of a jet..

A lot of clubs reject them first so it gives them more time to speak to the player and try and come to a deal. Mo Kaakour will play with Kilmore this year.
