Hear from locals down that way that sunbury have signed one of the Northern league's best players on $2k a game not sure of name though, will post tomoz

The reason IMS asked if you have the corrcet league is that 2k a game is way out of range for RDFL clubs.

Even then the Sunbury Lions would struggle to pay that amount a money for a player even though they would have 3-4 times the amount to spend each year. Unless they sign Buddy Franklin they would not pay 2k for a player.

At a guess the player payments for the entire team would be 40k-45k at the richest RDFL club - 2k a game for 1 player would leave about $15 a game for the rest of the team.

Guys,

Had to close off the 2008 thread due to number of posts.. So started the new thread for 2009...

What news has everyone got so far..

Riddell - Lost James, Climas, Robertson and Petran to Sunbury, Sam Young has signed with Pascoe Vale, but may have signed Matt Sammutt from Westmeadows. Have heard other rumours of retirements etc but nothing fully confirmed. Names mentioned Coles, Burnett, Besanko.

Woodend - Signing of Cook has been talked up, but will be interesting to see how it pans out, obvious loss is Sipthorp to Pascoe Vale, but will be interested to see what else happens.. Very quiet on the Hawks front.

Diggers Rest - Most to remain, have heard rumblings that former Bowen Medallist Steve Ruane may return, also rumblings about some Strathmore players that may have signed..

Wallan - A few recruits in the wings from Coach Pederson's past club Lalor, but again, another at this early stage fairly quiet.

Romsey - New coach, will be a club to keep a close eye on over the off season. Ben Richmond leaving, rumours of Warren Kairns departure.

Lancefield - Loss of Waters will hurt, Myles Dorman leaving, but the Tigers have some talented young stars that will become very good senior players, plum job of the competition if Fitzgerald handles it right.

Centrals - Alot quieter than this time last year.. Will be interesting to see the comings and goings over the off season.

Rockbank - Rumours of some Div 2 WRFL players. Still require a few to lift.

Kilmore - Booker has a task getting this side back, fell a long way last year.

Broadford - Obviously unknown quantity at this stage.

Macedon - Will be interesting again to see the comings and goings with a new coach, majority of recruits from last year came from the coach.. Will these players leave or stay?

Where is Ben Richmond off to? Warren Kairns looked pretty happy at the meet the coach day on Sunday .It would be a surprise if he departed the Redbacks in 09. His mate Crackers is back keener than ever to have a kick.

Ben Richmond is off to play with the coburg tigers in the VFL. Good to see young gun Rory Healy entering the RDFL again playing with the Lancefield Tigers.

Most people probably aware by now that Brendan Lee has been appointed new coach at Macedon but in further news he has Adam Johnstone as his playing assistant - good get for the cats.....

Whats Lee's coaching back ground like? Will Woody07 return to help his mate? Will he then chance his name to Cats09?

Wallan has only picked up one player from Lalor.
if groth has signed at wallan is it possible the league can present the bowen to him after round six. and johar saad will kick 100 plus an i tread any full back that trys the ruff stuff.my early tip wallan v riddell

Could anyone tell me about Myles Dorman?

I see that Rochester had signed him. How did that come about? I can't remember us getting anyone or even knowing anyone down in Lancefield.

Is he a midfielder? Quick? Good skills?

Any comment appreciated.:thumbsu:

It's far too early for predictions, i think you should wait untill round one before you can state who is playing for who! Riddell have lost some good players and are replacing them with players from Sunbury and G*******, all teams will improve due to the money which is being thrown around in the EDFL. The standard of the Riddell league will improve and in five years it may be back to where it was in the eighties!

To early for preditions?? You made the biggest of all with the back to the 80's comment.

Can you also name the players from the Sunbury and G******* that are joining Riddell?

like i said if

I will let you know after round one!

So no-one in other words.

You do realise the RDFL clubs would need to have there total player payments increase by 3-4 times what they are now to be able to get the good country footballers to get back to the level of the 80's?

To go from 30k total player payments to 100k-120k is a massive jump. But maybe your a marketing guru and have come up with a way to generate this extra revenue or maybe your Marty McFly and you can just travel back to the future and watch the 80's games. For me I think the big 5 BFL teams need to return for this to happen.

Good to see a great turnout for our first run last night at Riddell, round about 35 blokes.
Also good to see some new fresh faces as well. We are having another run next wednesday night 26th with a bbq and beer afterwards. 6pm sharp start. All welcome even if you're not pullin on the boots. (yet)

As to the fellas that have moved on to try their trade elsewhere, I wish them all the best and hope that their challenges and expectations are met in 2009.
To omni, does this mean that I wont be getting anymore encouragement from the big fella over the fence:)
