Good to see a great turnout for our first run last night at Riddell, round about 35 blokes.
Also good to see some new fresh faces as well. We are having another run next wednesday night 26th with a bbq and beer afterwards. 6pm sharp start. All welcome even if you're not pullin on the boots. (yet)

As to the fellas that have moved on to try their trade elsewhere, I wish them all the best and hope that their challenges and expectations are met in 2009.
To omni, does this mean that I wont be getting anymore encouragement from the big fella over the fence:)

are u playing again pal?

He has done what you have done - you said Riddell have picked up G******* and Sunbury players and he said Wallen have picked up some players. You both have not named anyone so get off your high horse and stop pretending to be above him because you on a fact finding mission.

practice what u preach stooge
See this is the problem with this thread, i stated some movement was happening @ Riddell, you stated that Wallan signed two players last night, is that correct? ok then, i found out today from a close mate @ Wallan who would know, that your statement is FALSE! I have stated that i will give accurate information about Riddell after the w/end, thats what everyone wants to hear, not jargan which you are going on about and are out and out lies!

Just came back from my two week holiday with my family and just found out who is coaching down at the cattery .NOT HAPPY

He has named his players - I think someone owes someone an apology!

Really looking forward to see which G******* players are at Riddell. Enjoy your investigation. You have a big weekend Sherlock.

Rockbank’s Dave Innella took all ten wickets on Saturday against the team he played for last season.
There’s always extra motivation in sport when a player plays against their former club. Whether that factor played a part or not, Dave Innella from Rockbank’s 2nd XI achieved a rare feat when he took all ten wickets against St Andrews in the Western Suburbs United Churches Cricket Association C Grade in Melbourne. Rockbank Cricket Club made the move to the WSUCCA this season so they could play two-day cricket, and Dave, who plays football at Full Forward for Rockbank made the switch from St Andrews to play with many of his football mates. And while the move was completely amicable, the tormented St Andrews batsman included some of his teammates he shared a premiership with last season.
The day started ominously for Dave as he shared the new ball with his brother Anthony and quickly had both St Andrews openers back in the pavilion for ducks. While Anthony was expensive, Dave continued to take wickets at regular intervals and bowled unchanged throughout the innings. As he got closer to the magical ten wicket mark he decided to do it in style, bowling the last two batsmen and single-handedly dismissing St Andrews for 166. Dave was selfless in the quest for ten wickets too, late in the innings he attempted a run out that was given not out that would have robbed him of the chance to take all ten, “to be honest I wasn’t really thinking about taking all ten”. Dave finished with the figures of 20.2 overs, 3 maidens, 10 wickets for 56 runs, not bad for someone who is ‘more of a footballer and has only really played cricket for the last few seasons.” A legacy of his football also makes his effort even more special, “I’m actually carrying a fractured wrist in my bowling arm from footy season, but it’s starting to come good.”
The first ever ten-wicket in an innings haul coincides with a re-birth of the Rockbank Cricket Club in recent times as Mark Walsh from Rockbank CC explains. “Rockbank CC actually folded about 12 or 15 years ago, but a lot of the guys who are involved with the Rockbank footy club decided to resurrect the cricket club about four seasons ago and we’ve gradually grown stronger and stronger.
“Up until this season we had played in a one-day competition but we’ve grown to incorporate juniors so we thought it best to move to the WSUCCA where two-day cricket is offered and so far the club’s performance has exceeded expectations.”
Teams have performed well in the stronger competition and a highlight has been the naming of young player Neil Burton as Vice Captain of the WSUCCA Under-21 side, encouraging signs for a club on the rise.
Rockbank is 3-97 chasing St Andrews’ 166 with the match to be completed this Saturday.

Can assure you champ I will be eagerly awaiting the Draws of the 2 respective comps, so I can spread myself as best I can between the 2 leagues. Love the passion of my RDFL & nothing will change there, so when I do get to a Bombers fixture how could I not but urge on one of its gazellelike aging icons. :thumbsu:

Well it is the GDCA thread and Rockbank aren't in the GDCA thread. Geez, a guy tries to give Rockbank some positive publicity and gets shot done in flames.

For what it's worth Dave, well done on the tenfa.

Honestly I don't care about cricket either, but to have one of our footballers in this remarkable story is good read, well done Davo. Its a better read than some of the absolute drivel some of you dicks write.

matt are u still up north or are you back?

Nah mate still up here and really enjoying it. Apart from every day being mid 30s and having every person tell me its still yet to get hot, it's been terrific. Apparently I had two articles in The Age last week but not sure. I'm based in Mount Isa at a paper called The North West Star but work for Fairfax which have the Sydney Morning Herald and a heap of other papers around the place. It's a bit shitty reporting on the local sport up here, even though they do have footy. But they call the local footy AFL, and obviously there is league and union. League's played in the winter and union in summer on Saturday nights. Believe it or not, but I actually had a run with the Rockbank of the MIRU last week. Played as a half-back for 15 mins and got absolutely poleaxed. Need another shoulder op anyway after that MALICIOUS Diggers Rest attack earlier this year (just kidding fellas), so I figure I don't have much to lose. Have played two matches of cricket and made one score (32no) but its too hot and I work Saturday arvos. Apart from that it's all good. Found a nice shiela (a German nurse) believe it or not too. She's way out of my league, but I'm hoping she doesn't realise that for some time yet.
