Who was number 3 for Woodend yesterday?

Seemed to be carrying quite a bit of weight. Is he a new recruit?

think he must be a new recruit. spent a bit of time up forward and looks like has the body frame to be a leading goalkicker of the tony lockett variety though.

good effort from macedon on the weekend theyve improved a tonne, but i think that next game will be much closer after the woodend boys have had a few more games together. looking forward to the next match.

No 3 was none other than Wazza Else, yes he may have put on a few kilo's but give him a few weeks and he will be an important member of hawks outfit again.
Quick summary of Cats v Hawks : The first half was as good as local footy as you will see. Hawks jumped out first through Cooky dominating one of Cats new recruits in ruck. Knox was looking dangerous and both he and Cooky kicked early goals. The cats steadied though & ran the ball very well. Goodwin & Blade were dangerous & they shared the goals around to be a couple up at 1/4 time. Wilton was dominant all oaround the ground. From here on it looked like the cats would run away with game. They were harder, faster & cleaner but to the hawks credit they hung in there.
The second half was a more of a slog and both teams ran out of legs on the big ground. The cats again threatened to blow hawks away when they got out to about 34 points at start of 3rd but couldnt do anymore. They missed some easy ones & the hawks defence led by Hardwick who did super job on Fleming stood strong. The hawks hung in there & finished with a few great goals in particular one to Benny Shipherd from 55 m on the run.
Cats home by 3 goals. Great game played in good spirits. Awesome crowd. 2 great clubs. Cats are up & firing already after big pre-season and new style under Lee. Hawks will strat slow but get better quickly with addition of a Ning & increased fitness.
Sad to see Nipper Wright at the game with arm in a cast, seems like he will be missing for first half of season but imagine how much better cats can get with him & Johnno back for 2nd half.

Anyone able to comment more on the Kilmore V Wallan game? Who were the better players etc?

Kilmore all put in a great effort and Wallan, well they had nothing.
Underperformed BIG time. Maybe Wallan should have their A netball team play footy for em, probably put on a better show.

On a serious note, taking nothing away from Kilmore as they clearly outplayed Wallan all over the ground.

BEST WALLAN: CORNISH, WHITEWAY, GIBSON ????
KILMORE: Truly a Team effort

Wallan Seniors will be hard pressed to win a game this year after the display they put on.
Great individual players but cant put it together as a team. Once they learn how to play as a "team" then they have the potential to be top 4.

Fair call NBF, anyone know how Stacy's knee came up? Will Lacy play?
Heard Nipper out for season! Cats to regain Johnno, Big Rig, Little Dettman, Sandle & Bazza Mathews in the next few weeks. Agree Woodsy looked short of a run but will bounce back (they always do) Else boys to improve over the next few weeks and Cooky & Knoxy will be a force up forward when playing. Coach has more of an understanding of the RDFL now, look forward to the 2nd time round should be another cracker.

Great start to what should be one of the best seasons for ages in the RDFL.

In the fear of "outing" myself, I was one the umpires at this game. Both clubs were fantastic in their endevour at the pill all day. Kilmore seemed to set it up in the first quarter into the wind and Wallan were playing catch up. Both clubs will be very competitive this season.

If i'm reading the fixture right all the round 1 winners play each other and all the round 1 losers play each other. How weird

Your right, it looks like half the losers will get a win this week and half the winners will have a loss. Or we could throw in a draw or 2 :D

Anyone prepared to give a wrap up of the games? who played well etc?

I was at the lancefield v rockbank and i have to say it was one of the hardest games i have seen in a long time. both were hard at the ball and it made for a very competive game. rockbank are a much improved team which is good to see. lancefield were still a few players short of there full strength team but i think they were just as suprised in the improvement of rockbank. but lancefild stepped up to the occasion and led for most of the day and kicked away late in the last quater coming home with a well earned 18 point victory.

Big weekend with a few upsets
Woodsy will be better from the run, unfortunatly couldnt get to the game till after half time but include Ng in that side and it makes a few differences and they should only get fitter from here.
Bit of suprise that Wallan lost to kiolmore maybe many people have under rated kilmore.
Anyone want to have a guess at who is premiership favorites now? I would guess Ridell still favorites but not sure on the rest pretty even.
Woodsy hope bounce back with a win at home against the Diggers Rest boys.

The crowd at Riddell was one of the largest I have seen in recent years for a home & away fixture, & I'm told that at Macedon there wasnt a car space to be had !

How were crowd numbers at the other games ?

i see most weeks the young guns of a few years ago in riddells best players which is great to see a club maintain thier u18s whats happened to the romsey and macedon kids and why cant thier clubs keep them????

Macedon have started to keep the best of theirs. Wright - injured, Collins, Phillips, Wilton, Dettmans, Kennedy, Conversano, Preston, Plowman all played in seniors last week. Bladey, Belcher & Ben James also played juniors there apparrently Most of twos also made up of past juniors.
Did some research on Nippa wright yesterday & yes his broken wrist might keep him out for year. depends if he needs op or not. Best case, miss about 10.
Also heard from woodend camp staceys knee not as bad as first feared and should only miss a few matches.

After watching game last week between 2 sides i like to follow (2 teams on the calder) i predict Hawks to rebound well against Diggers at home this week & win by about 27 points. Cats to scrape home over talented Romsey team by 4 points.
Sunbury will knock over Kilmore at home by 13, Wallan will get on board with 25 point win over Broadford, Rockbank off to best start in history when they beat Centrals by 34 & riddell to remind Lancefield how far they still have to go with a crushing 10 goals win.

I think if Kilmore can win this week it will prive to the comp they are going to be a finals contender. - 7 points
Woodend at home purely from a home ground advantage - 27 points
Broadford to get on the board with a tough away win - 10 points
Rockbank by a few goals after hearing about how much they have improved from last season - 40 points
Riddell to win fairly comfortably in the end by a lazy 42 points
Romsey at home by 15 points

Good luck to all teams this weekend.:thumbsu:

That was Warren Else? The bloke thats been playing down back since he was 16 or 17? Geese he looks to be struggling. Why are they playing him up forward?

Can anyone give me info on how Diggers are looking this year?
are they a chance at the flag?

also i heard Wade Livingstone is playing for centrals, if so did he get a kick?

What is wrong with the Woodend and Gisborne council (Macedon Ranges Council)??? They top dressed the footy grounds with land fill and now both are closed beacuse asbestos traces have been found. It was bad enough that they picked up a bin full of broken glass off the ground but asbestos!!!!!

So what? They test the fill after they spread it, not before? That's a disgrace, very disappointing for the clubs affected. How long are the grounds down for?
