You are unreal you Essendon supporters !!! :( I think you lot are even more arrogant than Collingwood supporters ??? At least they pull their heads in "A" little after being beaten !!! You lot are still deluding yourselves that perhaps THIS season may be the ONE ???

Oh we are no chance. I just enjoy that we knocked off the skiers.

Re: Harrison Hyundai Seniors - Round 3

I think what it is Doon', is that we have both witnessed firsthand how the "New & Improved" Diggers are gunna play their footy this season & we are a little in awe of that fact.
You & your winless boys had better be warned, cause it could get ugly if your not prepared mate. It could still get a little ugly if you are too !

& dont worry mate, I'll put the gerni in the boot for your hose down if required ! :thumbsu:

Good luck pal. :) ..............Your gunna need it !!! :footy:

You know I love ya Doon, but your boys are in desperate need for a kick in the arse.. I might not be the person that should be doing it and I am sure that many of the players might read it and call me full of crap... But for many of our more recent years, people have been waiting for the potential at the Blues to shine, my question is when will it start to shine??? I am quoting "perception", but the perception is that Kilmore are notoriously good when they have the ball and the run of play.. But are notoriously bad when it comes to going the other way.. They have a term for it.. Think they used it to describe Carlton in more recent times didn't they OMNI? :D

Edit: For the record, I thought the Blues hired the right man to change that and let it be known, I still think this is the case...

$hit sorry gents that was actually intended to be tongue in cheek :D Ive got no drama's with whatever gets said, it cant be any worse than what Ive said over the past week. I guess for those who've watched the club over a sustained period you're more entitled to call it as you will coz I'm still learning about the joint and Im sure things will click into gear shortly.

But just in case OMNI chuck in that gerni :thumbsu:

Game was for the taking until the last qtr, when Macedon kicked away. Was a bit bemused by some of his positional changes throughout the game but im sure he knows what he is doing.

Some very handy players not playing yesterday. I would still have Riddell as favourites. Have had a nightmare draw to start the year especially with some key players not up and running yet. Have big game experience and will be well and truly in the hunt come the last 2 weeks in my opinion. Best forward, best back and others not available yesterday.

Sunbury also had some "pretty handy players " out yesterday. Three or four from their best twenty two, including both Cuffes.

Pleasing thing for the Kangas would have been the positive input from the players that came into the team, and more than held their own. Along with the form of the new players to the club.

Think yesterday's final score flattered Riddell !

Round 3 and another Match of the Round involving Riddell, going by the Mick Malthouse theory, they will be be suffering from Blockbuster burnout by now.
Both sides went into the contest without key players, although the Bombers seemed to be harder hit.

The first 15 minutes of the game started exactly how you would expect in a contest between Sunbury and Riddell, the pace of the game was excellent and it was tough contested footy in the early going. The Kangaroos were the first to hit the scoreboard through a strong Meacham mark and goal against Silvester. The Kangaroos looked on top early, Ryan Hatty and Kayne Murphy in everything through the middle of the ground, but the Bombers were getting the better of the stoppages, Matt Sammut in particular in fine form in only his 2nd game in 12 months. The quarter was an arm wrestle though as the Bombers managed to find a little scoreboard pressure of their own, Haydn Ross was finding plenty of it and Ricky Elliot was a welcome addition to the backline.
Qtr Time: Sunbury 4.3.27 led Riddell 4.1.25

The second quarter went much the way of the first, the Roos seemed to get on top early, they kicked themselves out to a 4 goal lead before the Riddell steadied again with a great snap goal by Cox followed by a lack in discipline from the Kangaroos that saw Sammut goal without the ball returning to the middle. Jason King finding plenty of the ball and the young Kangas getting themselves into the contest. Murphy was still running hard for the Roos through the midfield, while Pete Robertson started to get his hands on it for Riddell. Ross had another solid quarter but it was again Matt Sammut who looked like he was controlling the game through the midfield. But neither side could break away, another hard fought quarter saw the game pretty even at half time.
Half Time: Sunbury 8.5.53 led Riddell 8.2.50

The arm wrestle continued in the third, but it looked as though the Kangaroos were starting to get on top. The Bombers started to look tired throughout the quarter, but they were able to use the ball better than the opposition moving forward allowing them to stay in the contest. Some excellent crumbing from Ellery saw the Kangaroos again keep their nose in front at 3 quarter time.
3 Qtr Time: Sunbury 11.10.76 led Riddell 11.5.71

The final quarter saw the Roos push the lead out early on to a margin that was always going to be tough for the Bombers to peg back. Meacham was on top of Silvester and the accuracy that had eluded him earlier in the contest had returned as he kicked two quick goals. The Kangaroos younger players were well into the contest now and the Roos pushed Sutherland into the ruck and Fishenden forward to stretch the Bombers defense, Sutherland was on top, but Matt Sammut was still in everything, an amazing return and was clearly the best player on the ground. Robertson moving forward almost getting them back in the contest. In the end, the Roos just had enough run left in the legs and were able to hold on, but the Bombers kept fighting.
Final: Sunbury 15.13.103 def Riddell 14.6.90

Preparation:
It looked as though the Kangas were further along in their preparation for the season, a solid preseason and the players were a little more battle ready, the Bombers I have seen over the past 3 weeks look a little further back than their opponents, but could wind it up over coming weeks, just hope that they are not too far back when they do.

My Votes:
3 - Matt Sammut (Riddell)
2 - Kayne Murphy (Sunbury)
1 - Matt Welsh (Sunbury)

What I learned in Round 3

  • Riddell are a little underdone, whether that is contributing to their current injury list, who knows, but everyone knows by now that you write them off at your peril.
  • Centrals might have gotten a little ahead of themselves, like the rest of us. Dropping that game is very disappointing in the race for a spot in the finals.
  • Romsey are just winding up to their best, this week will see them almost at full strength with the return of Dawson.
  • Kilmore can play the game that many expect of them, but they need to do so for longer periods and every week.
  • Macedon have some injury worries that might make things tough in coming weeks.
  • Lancefield have picked up a couple of recruits that will help them improve in the coming weeks.

Performance Ladder - Round 1

Rockbank
Romsey
Diggers Rest
Sunbury Kangaroos
Wallan
Macedon
---------------------
Broadford
Woodend/Hesket
Riddell
Kilmore
Melton Centrals
Lancefield

The roos are flying after a shift in coaching panel and surely now are favourites. went to watch rockbank centrals at ian cowe and was suprised to see so many ex wrfl players involved with both clubs. The rams look to improved after beating centrals in all areas of the ground was impressed with rockbanks midfield run and seemed to be running all over the ground and jhhny cott has drummed into them. rams are a genuine threat for a finals gig which wll be great for te competition while centrals have a long year ahead of them if they continue with their lack of accountability across the ground. it's good to see the competition healthy.

What a cracking start to the season it has been.. you could just about factor in the majority of clubs to have a real tilt at the flag.. Sunbury are the clear favourites after beating Riddell on the weekend.. its been a funny old start to the season though.. Riddell knocked off the reigning premiers in round one and then lost the next two against other contenders.. one against Diggers Rest who were some what challenged by the mighty Blues.. Macedon have a good solid list and the way that their Reserves are playing.. anyone that is underperforming in the firsts will have a fitting replacement from the 2nds.. liked the look of Tom Walliss in the ruck on the weekend.. look out, he will only get better.. speaking of getting better.. Woodend/Hesket's Matt Quinn dominated on Saturday.. he gets better with every game and I won't be surprised if he is the top three or four ruckmen in the competition.. not bad for a guy who played basketball for all his teenage years. The Hawks shouldn't be taken lightly either.. they are missing a few keys.. like Macedon were.. but they pushed them on the weekend.. the Rams have started well.. thinking this game at the Tony Clarke Reserve on Saturday could go either way.. Broadford were two final quarters away from taking home a few big wins.. wouldn't underestimate them at all.. the Tigers have been the only team not to show great promise in the results department but they are a much better team than last year and they're only going to get better..
Thanks for the great feedback on the radio guys :)

Have seen a bit of this in recent times... It is too difficult at this stage to make the call that anyone is a clear favorite.. I have now watched all of the 4 sides expected to fill the top 4 spots and being Round 3, if there is any favorite, it is Diggers Rest, they played the best brand of football out of the big 4, and by a fair margin.. But all 4 of those sides are going to be right in the hunt come the end of the year, there is no "clear" favorites at this time of the year.

I agree way to early to be naming favourites or writing teams off, So Far a great start to the season plenty of big games played with alot more to come.
I think the Sunbury Boyz should get better every week, alot of upside to the squad. Its good to see diggers up n about, while Romsey seem to be doing nothing wrong Howz Woolley going?? While in my opinion Riddell looked a few players short does that say something about the depth of the squad. Good to c both Sammuts playing, i didnt even know Matt played, he done well. I havn't seen enough to comment. Keep it up IMS love the reading

You're right there mate.. no-one could pick a clear favourite.. stranger things have happened.. the Redbacks were two kicks away from being bundled out of the finals race last year in the semi final after finishing 17-1 at the end of last year's home and away season.. this season will be better than the last if the current trend keeps going :)

Yeah some good points in your post game review, Riddell do look like a month or so behind the eight ball in terms of fitness, actually overheard some Riddell faithfull at the weekends clash, from what I could gather a lot of players did very minimum pre-season which to my eye stood out on the day and wasn't going down well with the intimite Bomber supporters, the more I evs dropped the more I took notice...what stood out in my opinion was Bombers players just simply out there running around doing as they please, those days are over since the time of Riddell smashing teams week in week out, maybe the coaching staff need to come up with more than just the old one on one- from what I heard in the huddle, maybe im totally wrong but its just my opinion, all in all they have a fantastic list, ( hate to say it) but they really do, its a list a tattically minded coach would be licking there lips over, probably time for the club to look outside the bubble and bring in a outsider to move the club forward in terms of player and the teams future. Didn't see there first two games so I could be way of the mark!

Incredibly harsh in my opinion. Won a flag in 2010 and the list copped some injuries last year. It is only early in the season and the best forward and best back have barely played a game. Makes it pretty tough up against 3 fellow contenders.

I agree with this... Yes, they may be a little behind the 8 ball as it stands, but it's a very long season and the quality to return to that line up Mick Allen, Nick Ash, Aaron Blade, Grant Puxley, James Climas, Glen Robertson plus if Rob Henry makes a return means that the Bombers will without doubt steady and finish in a position to make another run at the flag.

Went and watched the local derby on Sat on a ripping day at woodend. The ground was mickey mouse and there was a massive crowd there. I have been to 2 of Gissys home games this year and there has only been half the amount of people that was at woodend on Sat. Jumping castles, sponsors lucnheons and a great buzz around the ground.
Good to see some old Hawk stalwarts in Pods and Digger playing 2's for the day where they can still find the pill but both look comfortable in retirement.
The senior game was scrappy at best. Hopkins knows what he is doing Sprech and seeing you have never really played the game its probably best you let him coach and you do what you do best - barrack. It was man on man footy all over park and there was no easy footy to be found. The cats always looked like they would kick away but to the hawks credit it took until the 4th quarter for them to do it.
Sawyer from the Hawks can really play, took a stack of marks across half back and reads it well. Quinn in the ruck was also dominate and with some experience could develop into a gun ruckman. For the cats McCann on the wing found plenty of it and Strickland was brilliant at full back.
It wasnt a pretty game of football but it was bloody competitive and it was good to see that the animosity from years gone by seems to have lessened over the summer. In the rooms after the game i saw plenty of Cats and Hawks mingling and sharing a beer. Good day for both clubs - WWW's for the cats, $$$ for the Hawks and old gripes finally put to bed!
