Realitycheck for MacKenzie and all those who overrated him

I've seen Spangher get pantsed in marking contests by Mitch Morton, nuff said

Emac lost 3 marking contests to Riewoldt, the other goal came from a clanger from Wilkes who fisted the ball back towards goal rather then away from it.

Schofield lost just as many contests in the last quarter against Riewoldt yet no criticism of him?
First bit of sense I've read in this thread. Riewoldt's first goal E-Mac actually did well to get front position, it was Wilkes who made a meal of it.

And he certainly wasn't on Riewoldt for all of the other nine goals. I wouldn't downplay how well the little Tiger bastard played either, he is a true king of contested marking.

schofield instantly made a difference when he went on reiwoldt. broke even in several 50/50s, which mackenzie was incapable of.

mackenzie was VERY poor in every first quarter contest vs reiwoldt, go back and watch.

I'm not denying he had a bad quarter, but it was a bad game for him so get over it

1 week ago he stopped another in form forward in Podsiadly so your assertions of him are a bit harsh.

Can we get stuck unto Mitch Brown a little as well in this thread please?

100kg of fluff he is, seriously. Goes missing for loooooong periods, any danger of chasing Mitch? Did we swap you for the Collingwood one in the off season?

Glad i'm not the only one who's noticed this, McKinley gets crucified for his defensive pressure but Brown is a thousand times worse.

Mate stop downplaying how well Reiwoldt played. He was excellent today.

Did you ever stop to think how the rest of their forward line was? It was pretty average and all the rest of their goals were from midfielders. This thread is a knee-jerk reaction based on the first quarter, watch the rest of the game as a couple of his kicks to the wing were pretty good.

He wouldn't have to do so much defending if we had a better midfield. For what its worth Schofield had 5 kicked on him too but I thought he had a pretty good game.

Just a pointless thread to bag a player because you're frustrated. If you think Spangher is a better defender than MacKenzie then I pity you. Even Lynch made him look second rate in marking contests yesterday.

I was at the game and can assure you that nason (pick 71) was playing forward and kicked three goals.

Frankly I don't rate any of our developing key defenders - they don't help each other out, are incapable of shutting down an in-form key forward and consistantly make errors that directly result in an opposition goal. Saying one is better than the other is like comparing horse manure with cow manure - it doesn't matter they're still shit.

Mitch Brown is not a forward and should be down at CHB as he was last year. Quick of the mark and can hold himself one-on-one but gets absolutely lost up forward - so why do the coaching panel insist on keeping him in attack this year?

As for tactics - how hard is it to place a lose man to mark the space in front of the key forward doing damage? If someone is hurting you because they are beating your defenders in one-on-one contests then you simply just take away the one-on-one contest by having an extra man back zoning off and spoiling as the third man. Just look at how teams play against Brisbane with Brown and Fevola - take away the space to lead and then have extra men back to spoil the mark. In today's football no player should ever kick ten goals - that Riewoldt was able to do so is an indictment against our "coaches" and their lack of wanting to change.

Wilkes was by far our worst defender today, his ability to punch the ball backwards for opposition forwards to run on to is amazing. He should never have been in the team, wasn't a match-up for him.

Emac didn't have a great game but he shouldn't have been on Riewoldt in the first place - I must admit that was the match up I initially preferred, so I was wrong there too - he just wasn't quick enough.

Having said that the fundamental problem was our midfield being comprehensively beaten for class and pace, Riewoldt was great but he had plenty of supply.

agreed, and it wasn't my intent to pump up spangher in this thread. he's every bit as shit as mackenzie and probably worse.

i just can't stomach the way some posters on here praise guys like mackenzie when they have done nothing to earn it.

And here is where you show (once again) that you're full of crap.
We all agree he had a shocker today, but to say he has done nothing to earn praise over his short, developing career is just a total load of shit.

True but his goals weren't to do with one on one defending they were short kicks into the forward 50 after a turnover and a fifty for wait for it, throwing a boot. Not much a defender can do there.

My point was of the guys listed on the forward for Richmond which was

HF: Kelvin Moore, Jack Riewoldt, Ben Nason
F: Richard Tambling, Ben Griffiths, David Astbury

MacKenzie was ok on Griffiths (yes I know he's young) who only had 3 possesions for the game. Your other goals came from Martin, Farmer, Collins, Vickery and White (who all played in the midfield)

MATE, he was shizen today. No presence whatsoever.

It's not just today, I was at the Hawthorn game last year and a passage of play really stood out for me. Brown's opponent marks the ball on the wing and takes off, Brown casually decided to jog after him. An Eagles player came sprinting past Brown to try to put pressure on and Brown just continued to jog. The Hawthorn player got into trouble up the ground and the Eagles player who had sprinted past Brown was able to pressure the kick while Brown continues to jog up the wing.

0 defensive pressure

I think it was a shame they took McKenzie off Riewoldt.

I know he got destoryed but its a good learning experience and the Eagles are rebuilding just like us, so take no shortcuts!

We played Jack at FF last year every game, even when he didn't score, you gotta back your players up.

I don't know who number 31 is, but he did fantastic, Riewoldt kicked 5 more, but there was no way many could have stopped him today. Reminds me of when the Dogs kept a young Brian Lake on Richo when he kicked 10 six years ago. He is a star now.

Overall, its a bad loss for your mob, but continue giving your boys a go, because if you take shortcuts it kills you in the end.

Believe me, as a Richmond supporter I know.

#31 is Hobo Schofield. That guy seriously looks like he's been dragged straight out of Centrelink.

You know last year Mitch Brown was very good in the back line at CHB.
This year his sh*t house in the forward line.

M Brown back to CHB
Scofield at FB.

E Mac I have never rated and don't think he can make it at AFL level.
