- This documentation is replicated from old messageboards associated with the footypedia website. The website's back up, but I won't be supporting the messageboard system.
- This list may already be duplicated on Bigfooty, on this very forum. I'm just tranferring data. If there is a duplicate, add a link here and we can work on a process of integration.

Great to have all these wonderful lists up and more readily available. Especially with the success of Trove as a resource.

I know the dates of newspapers available on that National Library site pre-date the career of Trevor Sutton, but I need to say from the outset that I challenge the reputed "4000+" figure. Personally I'll be surprised if his career tally reaches 2000.

Have seen enough articles regurgitating the nonsense that he played for Footscray, Norwood, and boxed at Olympic trials for Australian selection. Indeed some claim he actually made to Munich in 1972 as part of the team !

Not denying that he was a champion country/regional player but think it is time to get the Sutton career record sorted out.

yes croucher I think from memory that even the thread back at yuku has some follow-up convo about "dealing with this sutton nonsense" or similar appraisal :thumbsu:

regarding the NTFL in the 81-84 there was FF for North Darwin called Peter Munro
just about as good as Trevor Sutton would anybody have info on his career
think he came from Victoria

list of goal kickers ntfl
http://stmarysfc0.tripod.com/id87.html
I presume he was this fellow, who played a few games for Footscray (1976-78):- http://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/P/Peter_Munro.html

He came from Traralgon.

Perry Meka was drafted by Footscray in 1986, I'm not sure if he played any reserves games for them, or if he remained in country football.

Bit off tangent but i did see Paul Angelis kick 29 goals sometime in the 1980's, in fact i saw them very close up :)

Must have been close to a VFL gig was Paul

2158 - Peter Hudson: Upper Derwent, New Norfolk, Hawthorn, Glenorchy.
1080+ Wayne Fox: Hobart, Glenorchy, New Norfolk, Sandy Bay, Kingston, Franklin
Fox was the TFL's all-time leading goalkicker with 1049, he also played half a season with South Launceston in 1990 as well as the aforementioned clubs. His tally would have to well over 1300 as he played in the Huon FA comp after retiring from the TFL early in the 1991 season until about 1997 then played his final season in 1998 at Claremont in the SFL under his brother Graeme Fox as senior coach.
Hudson was second to Fox in the TFL all-time goalkicking with 994, done between 1964-1966 then 1975-1976 and 1978-1981.
Fox played TFL between 1975-1977 and 1979-1991 (16 seasons) compared with Hudson's 9 seasons. I saw both, what a treat.

According to "Australian Rules Football in Tasmania" by John Stoward (2002), Fox has 1153 goals in senior football. He is listed with 92 for Glenorchy, then 442 for New Norfolk (1982 to 1985), 392 for Hobart (1986 to 1989), 82 for Sandy Bay in 1990 and 41 for South Launceston in 1991. This equals the well known 1049 total. The extra goals come from his appearances for Tasmania (85 goals) and the T.F.L. (19 goals). He is credited as having kicked 10 goals in a match 27 times.

That's the one - he kicked an even 100 in 1980 and another 90 in '81 so he could clearly play. It'd be interesting to know if he had a crack at the VFL-AFL at any stage.

Not bad, I agree, especially if the "less than 100% healthy playing body" issues are true.

But the figures you list add up to about 1450, so if he averages 100 for the missing seasons of 1974-75-76-80-85, that is 1950 in all, so 2000 very plausible, but nowhere near the mythical 4000 claimed over recent decades.

Played for Nightcliff mid December 75 to mid January 76
you'll have to go back to the newspaper microfilm
it would be between round 8 and 15
I think it list all of the clubs he was involved with on their website
started back in WA in '64

there was a good interview with Charlie K on ABC radio 5 years ago

I didn't think he played 77/78 NTFL
was a Queensland rep from memory
