I believe there is now a case to include Leigh Matthews in this thread. Matthews has 915 goals in his VFL career, as well as 29 goals for Victoria and 49 in the night series games. He also kicked 4 in the 1971 Australian Club Championship and 3 in the 1976 NFL Championship series, which gives him 1000 exactly. In addition, according to the website for Chelsea Football Club in the Mornington Peninsula FL, Matthews played senior football for them in 1968, kicking 70 goals that season, to give him 1070 senior goals over all.

Trotter kicked six goals in 1971 with Rochester. I think he was injured most of the year.

Actually, looking over that PDF, I can't see how Cook kicked 54 goals for Yarraville over his two seasons there. I tried to trace his goal totals through Google Newspapers. I found a total of 13 for 1969 but there were four editions unavailable for 1970. So, just about 1400 or so as a general number with tweaking of research to come.
I have found refs for five VFA rep games so far which adds another 25 to his tally.

1976 25 April VFA d Ovens & Murray FL 19.11 to 17.14 - Cook 5g

1978 4th June QLD d VFA 18.14 to 12.20 - Cook 2g

1979 17 June VFA d QLD 28.26 to 5.8 - Cook 7g

1980 c7 July SA d VFA 19.21 to 15.15 - Cook 1g

1982 30 May VFA d GNFL 27.33 to 9.9 - Cook 10g

1982 30 May VFA d GNFL 27.33 to 9.9 - Cook 10g

I have read that Cook played 9 representative games for VFA, but I can only find goals for 8. In addition to what you have provided:

1977 12 June QLD d VFA 14.18 to 13.17 - Cook 9 goals

1980 14 June VFA d NTFA (Tas) 28.19 to 9.12 - Cook 5 goals

1982 13 June VAFA d VFA 23.13 to 19.17 - Cook 6 goals

There is another game VFA played on June 6, 1981 against GNFL. I could not see Cook's name in the goal kickers list when I found the game in The Sun microfilm recently. This 1981 game falls within Cook's timeline of representing the VFA (between 1976 and 1982), but I can't recall where I read of Cook playing 9 VFA games.
Cook also played in four games for Port in the VFA's 1977 Centenary Cup competition, a preseason comp to celebrate the VFA's 100th year. Here Cook kicked 30 goals from 4 games (bags of 6, 6, 6 and 12). In addition Cook played for Port in the NFL Ardath Cup in 1977, which had begun the year before as the NFL Wills Cup, which was won by Hawthorn. With no VFL representation forthcoming for 1977, some of the top VFA teams participated. Cook kicked 12 goals in 2 games in 1977 and then 15 goals in 3 games in 1978. Cook also played 4 night games for Footscray but kicked no goals.

is that a typo 1996 or 1990 ? He was 49 years old in 1996

I should also have added just for clarity that when one reads the Fred Cook biography it becomes clear that Cook unfortunately did not play any football between 1990 and 1996 due to court appearances, jail time and family issues which caused him to move house frequently.

In addition, I have noticed when reading the recent AFL Record Season 2018 that Ron Todd has now been credited with 1001 club goals for Collingwood and Williamstown, 2 more than the traditional 999 he was credited with for many decades. The 2 additional goals are for Williamstown, thus giving him 674 VFA goals and 327 VFL goals. Todd does of course also have 28 goals for Victoria.

Yes, I remember a while back the Todd matter being clarified. Apparently many years ago a simple mathematical error was made in adding up his totals (either for a particular season or career - can't remember which it was now), and once that 999 was published of course it was "set in stone" and only recently corrected because someone finally went back through his career match-by-match.

According the SA Football Budget Round 12 June 1978
T. Sutton was playing in the Norwood reserves

Took me a long time I admit, but earlier in the year I sent a message to Norwood FC.
Took a while for the History Group to learn of that message but once they did, response was very quick and definite.

Trevor Sutton NEVER played senior football with Norwood, and certainly not in any premiership side - senior or reserves.

He is on record as playing in 1978 with total of 4 reserves matches and kicked a total of 8 goals.

I’ve been thinking for some time how good it would be if it were possible to have games totals to go with these goals totals. Obviously such a stat isn’t readily available for many country and regional leagues. I’ve researched a fair few and this is what I have unearthed. Many of these players did kick more goals than those which I have listed here.

2214 - Tony Doran – Birchip, Northern United, Woomelang-Lascelles, Nullawil: 425 games for 2160 club goals, as quoted on Footypedia

2064 - Shane Loveless – Sale, Footscray, Glenorchy, Tatura, Kyabram, Casterton, South Gambier, Apsley, Nambrok, Gunbower, Kerang Rovers, Colbinabbin, Ardmona, Nagambie: 425 games. Total consists of 14 interleague games (81 goals) and 2 night series games for Footscray (6 goals)

2036 - Ron Best – Heidelberg, Golden Square, Charlton, Sandhurst, Boort, Northern United: 354-357 games in all club and interleague appearances. There are three games in Best’s early days for Heidelberg for which I cannot yet determine whether he went goalless or did not play. His total includes 22 interleague games (116 goals)

2004 – Peter Hudson – New Norfolk, Hawthorn, Glenorchy: 341 games (including all night games for Hawthorn and Tasmania, as well all interstate and intrastate games in Tasmania. In addition, includes goals for Hawthorn and Glenorchy in Australian Club Championship games)

I have recently been able to browse through a copy of "South Australia Country Football Digest" at Adelaide State Library. This is the table which was produced in the stats section featuring all South Australian country footballers who have kicked 1000 goals to the end of 2017. The table does not include AFL goals, thus Tony Modra does not feature. I have noticed since the upgrade to Big Footy the tables are taking on a different look, but here goes anyway. I have included some extra data which I found in other sections of the book.

Re Peter Ey
Any more information on this guy?
View attachment 603120
Of his 4 seasons as leading goalkicker he reaches 94,85,100 and 90 for a total of 369 just in those 4 years. The Ceertificate of Merit from the SANFL (above) states 1000 goals. So yes he should be included. But I think it might take a local to go to all the clubs he played at to find the official records.

Fred Cook played mainly at CHB in his two seasons at Yarraville hence the low number of goals!
