What are the changes.
Does SACA run a underage red ball comp in Premier Cricket. Has helped WA progress strongly. Note how many WAussies are in or on the fringes of the Test side.
Yes, we always have had that

They've tweaked age groups for next year

Changes are best 8 teams only in Division 1

I don't mind it. We need talented bats as have been playing hacks.
Not against these recruitments either, though looks like another 2 middle order prospects, we need openers and a number 3 from a batting perspective... I guess Harvey is an unknown at FC level.

Kelly should get first crack at 5/6, i'd like to see Drew also at 5/6. Mcsweeney is locked in at 4. Hunt I guess opens would want early runs for mine though... so what need are these 2 filling? Where do JFM, Manenti, Harvey, Sangha, Nielsen all fit?

Where does Harvey usually bat? Is he an option as an opener?

I don't know if I can handle another Redbacks season. The past 28 seasons has seen us finish:
Top: nil
Second: Twice
Third: Three times
Fourth: Five times
Fifth: Three times
Bottom: FIFTEEN times!!!!!!!

Wooden spoons in the past 28 seasons: WA 0, Vic 1, Qld 2, Tas 4, NSW 6, SA 15!!!!!

In the interim, winners of the shield have been: Qld 8, Vic 7, NSW 5, WA 5, Tas 3, SA 0.

If we were an AFL club we'd be screaming out for draft picks!!!!

Each year we are hopeful things will change. Each year nothing ever does. Hopefully McSweeney will do enough to impress Test selectors.

Perhaps.

However he did have a lot of success with Yorkshire when he was their coach. Took them from 2nd division in the County Championships to 1st division champions in 4 seasons.
true, but that was before he got the Redback stench of failure over over him. :drunk:

Apparently Gillespie has unloaded big time on the SACA Administration and its culture.

Only caught the back end of the story on the radio this morning and can’t find any mention of it on the web so don’t have all the details.

Anyone else heard what he said?

Hi, this link should work
"
While he remained broadly bullish about the SA squad, Gillespie said he’d been left exasperated by the attitudes of SA Premier Cricket clubs, in particular around the recruitment of players from outside SA like McSweeney, McAndrew, Buckingham and Jake Fraser-McGurk.
“I think the frustration for me as coach and I hear all the rhetoric around club land and around South Australia. What the (Mike) Hussey review (into SA cricket in 2020), specifically said that the SACA should be targeting the best young players whether they are inside or outside the South Australian borders."

Edit. Appears I cant post links yet. Search The Advertiser Jason Gillespie Daniel Cherny and it should come up

Had a go at the powerbrokers at grade level putting their club ahead of state cricket

Seems to be classic passing of the blame
Not really, on this issue he’s 💯 correct unfortunately. There are way too many teams and not enough talent to make them all viable. Any time a merger is discussed or teams are put under the microscope for their performance then they threaten to sue etc so there’s not much chance on meaningful change ever occurring and SACA will consistently stay at the bottom on the ladder

Didn’t say he was wrong but it does come across as an excuse for his lack of success

I'm not sure how the "powerbrokers" at grade level can be blamed for how poorly the Sheffield Shield team plays. It's not them getting out to stupid shots like Fraser-McGurk. It wasn't those people who only patched together a couple of 50s at the end of the season as captain to prevent his season looking a complete disaster. And who was it that took nearly all season to play Tom Kelly, electing to play Carder instead? I'm not sure what Gillespie's gripe was when, despite the grumblings he talked about, he got the team he wanted.

Look, back in the days when I was involved in grade cricket, we all knew the problems. I spoke with all the coaches we had back then, and they all had the same difficulties. I imagine most of those things were detailed in Hussey's submissions. I'm not involved these days, but back then there were people with authority who pushed their own club 's interests. One such club didn't, and still doesn't have a junior program, and survives on players from other clubs and interstate.

Back in the 90s, mergers between clubs were tabled. the upshot was there were only 2 clubs, Sturt and Glenelg who were having earnest talks, the other clubs weren't interested, so it was taken off the table.
