In normal circumstances, 7/248 would be a good effort by the bowlers

But you have to factor in that our batters always get skittled for bugger all plus that we're likely to concede a huge partnership for the 9th and/or 10th wicket.

If carder gets 15 chances then surely Kelly gets another 20 chances considering he’s at least a proper south Aussie

He'd be disappointed with that shot. Looked pretty comfortable so yes, hopefully he gets another opportunity (or 20!!) but not holding out any hope that he will given the way young SA players have been treated in the past (except depending on who your dad is!).

I really don't understand the Nielsen hate. He's a decent reserve keeper that averages a little under 30. If his surname wasn't Nielsen he'd get a lot less crap I reckon.

No hate for Nielsen here, however it has been suggested maybe never would've got a look in if it wasn't for his surname and his father's job...

The hate comes from his gig with the Strikers. He's a more than handy backup keeper to Carey and it's at the point now where he'd probably play as a specialist batsman...

I genuinely think there's something there with Kelly, and worth persevering with at least for the rest of the season. Both dismissals this match were poor shots and something he needs to work on.

The sooner we move on from Carder, Lehmann, Kelly at 4 (far out), Nielsen at 6 (ugh - he's a 7), Manenti (has to be better spinners out there) and Doggett the better.
I'd keep the manatee purely for his batting, but I agree on the others. Nielsen isn't as bad as people make out (his keeping is reasonable) but, yeah, he's batting 1-2 spots too high.

Lehmann as captain is a real indictment on the team.

I know we are missing Fraser, Carey, Johnson and Head but there has to be better options.
I'm not a fan of picking a number 8 purely for their batting. Manentis bowling is fine, but I'd rather we look to find a player with potential in that spot to be a long term FC player.

I think you guys are missing a trick batting McAndrew and Manenti at 8/9. Get the extra bowler in.

What I think your next Shield side should be:

Nielsen
Hunt
Head (c)
McSweeney
Carey (+)
Scott
Manenti
McAndrew
2x Agar/Doggett/Buckingham
Pope

Play the second spinner. Take a risk.

Not at all impressed with the Boofling (is his continued selection a Marsh like act of nepotism?), Kelly (decent eye but bats in concrete boots) or Carder but kudos to Scott who batted and bowled well enough. Neilson has kept and batted well.

Depending on the pitch, I agree with eth-dog that Pope should get a go.

What about Johnson? Would be good to have a minimum of 6 SA players in our team

Liam Scott was played too early and pushed up to No 3 to protect the likes of Lehmann in the middle order

Has ability. Should have had a couple more years of 2nd XI and Grade Cricket first, then been eased in as the No 6 batter and 5th bowler
