Thought exactly the same SR, but i am a fan too. Somewhere in there is a solid to good AFL player that will, probably, gradually continue to emerge. Needs to nail a position within our game and list structure.

I recall you and I have nailed HH and Joe R as displaying AFL traits from some shabby standard VFL games but i reckon Reef has been a slow burn in showing he has something across 20 odd games at the much higher level than the other guys.

The problem he's got at the moment is that most of the opportunities he gets in our AFL forward line will be as a tall - when he's more of an Elliott type - hit up on the lead, provide a contest and ground level stuff with the occasional contested mark. He's not going to succeed wrestling in packs when we bomb it long to the big boys. We're not going to create space for him to play his best role if Elliott and Hill are fit. It's a shame that Elliott out coincided with Checkers out, so he didn't get to play a more suitable role.

I reckon he’s developing well. The big question mark early on was his tank if I recall. Physically he’s quite strong and competes well one on one given he’s asked to play on more solidly built players often with way more experience, as was the case on the weekend. My guess would be that we want him to keep the speed not take it away. Height taken by itself is such an overrated metric even in inches

Reef's tank is developing and so is his strength. In earlier games he was easily outbodied whereas more recently he has begun to hold his own. He has a long way to go to be able to outbody others but he has the potential. The trick will be to balance all those traits and maintain his speed and agility.
We should all remember that when recruited he had some back injuries that would have undoubtedly hampered his development. He is still very young and will continue to develop. He is well worth persisting with...

Some nice moments but continues to do all the hard work in marking contests and then drops the mark. Fumbly at times. He needs to make every post a winner to become a regular member of the side. He does have the happy knack of kicking around the corner goals or snaps when he plays in the seniors.

He has no tank, I think that is the issue there and also why he is a deep forward and not a winger

When he’s fit again Mihocek will be back and he may struggle to get in

It’s also why he looks quick on the lead as it is usually a first or second effort.

When chasing it’s his 3rd/4th effort and he’s totally cooked. Repeat sprints are what AFL is all about.

It’s also the reason he drops marks at the end of a long lead, because he’s gassed. He dropped a low mark he should have taken and the resultant scramble caused him to get the head knock that concussed him.

I remember when Libba was kneed in the back of the head By Sav Rocca and was knocked out cold and had to be stretchered off the ground. He came back on the ground after he regained consciousness.

Somewhere in the back of my mind, I recall a player or two getting smashed in the head to the point of trying to run in the wrong direction and reaching for balls that weren't there. They were crazy days in hindsight

I think you're thinking of Ty Vickery. I don't think that was from concussion though. It was either dehydration or shrooms. That was very bizarre.

I was talking to a mate of mine who is alo a passionate Collingwood supporter. Anyway, he suggested that would it be worth trying Reef as a defender with a view to trying to replace the Nathan Murphy role. I thought that suggestion was an interesting left-of-centre idea. Any thoughts? Goodnight & good luck.

I reckon if he can get his tank up he'd be a decent midfielder in the senior side. Would be worth a couple of games to test it out.

Too late to implement this season for it to be an AFL relevant idea but may be worth it down the track.

We've been waiting 4 years for reef to impose himself on a game. History says he might just not be up to it. He's going to have to take his game to another level very soon

he’s got the tools to make it. Save for questionable stamina. Possibly could also take some angry pills to add a little aggression to his game.

He projects more as a tall forward, which tend to develop more slowly. If you look at his stats this season he has kicked close to 2 goals a game while coming on as a sub in a few games. Which is quite good for a 21 year old. I think his biggest issue is that he doesn't have the fitness chase all game which is our MO.
