What are we going to do with Markov if reef is earmarked for defence. That'll be TJ, DeMattia, Parker and reef all vying for the same single spot. I'd rather get games into those guys

Markov is our leader in the VFL and a good depth player at this stage.

So Reef could slot in there.

DeMattia and TJ are still a fair way off.

Parker is the one who might get games there too.

So, I'm thinking Houston and Quaynor play further up the ground -- wing maybe -- and the back six looks like:

Howe, Frampton (or Dean), Maynard
McInnis, Moore, one final small (Sidebottom, Parker, maybe one of Houston or Quaynor, Josh or Nick Daicos, etc).

TJ is a long way off, yet. I'd imagine that if Reef was being groomed for a role in defense it would be more in the Murphy mold. He has decent pace, can contest aerially and might even be better in one-on-one contests. That would put IQ further up the ground - on the Wnig, perhaps. Oleg was always on the outer and he is purely depth now.
In any case, there is going to be some rearranging of the magnets and I suspect that the likes of Sidey, Titch and dare I say it, even Pendles will be gradually replaced in the side.

I think the fact that TJ got a game this year he might be closer than people think. I reckon he'll play quite a few games next year

Although no one would likely admit it, he was debuted in a game against North where we were expected to dominate and be in a position to carry a very raw debutant. I think therefore, that TJ's debut was reward for his attitude and adherance to direction from coaching and support staff rather than him pushing for selection in an orthodox fashion.

Good to see the Reef McInnes Football Club given another year of runway to take-off or crash land in the Reef McInnes football thread.

Not a bad back drop to run (at the far back)

I think Reef can still be an exceptional footballer, I don't mind the club pushing him to the rookie list.
Obviously, the club needs to fill holes in the back line but I see his best role as a forward.

Keep building that tank.....

Just googled Reef, still only 21.... Insane, some big men need time!

I have faith Reef can improve. Corey Bellemore is still getting better and he is 29. 4:28 beer mile. Reef needs to train with him.

I'd have him go out with Dane Swan the night before training sessions. There's a lot benefits in learning to push through the pain of a hangover.

Exactly. There is nothing that cannot be cured by a quick spew. Or, as it is known in the Beer Miler World, a "Reversal of Fortune". Mid-race, it costs you an extra lap. Competitors are free to spew afterwards.

I think with TJ is a matter of when and if he clicks. It wouldnt surprise me if he played 20 AFL games next year or if he played none. What he does well screams AFL.
The question is what is best for his development. AFL or VFL and what can we afford to do with his development. We had luxury of developing Maynard in the AFL but had a gem after 40-50 games.
