Frydenberg to take over as AFL CEO.

It’s been real guys. I’m always convinced I can’t take any more of the AFL’s bullshit but they’re really going for it now.

Thought this news was from The Shovel went I first heard of it, but it appears that he actually is their preferred candidate if he wants it...

You always knew that a mates job would be coming his way, was just hoping it would not be this one.

All the average fan wants is an appointment that will put focus back on the game itself, rather than further corporatising and politicalisation of the "brand".

Giving it to a professional politician who was discarded from office less than a month ago, for little reason other than because he did the chairperson a favour two years ago, reeks, and will perhaps be the final straw for many weary supporters.

Perhaps it will be a masterstroke, he certainly ticks the boxes that AFL HQ are always after:
  • talking from both sides of his mouth at the same time
  • shamelessly promoting Melbourne at any opportunity
  • getting anyone outside of Victoria completely offside
  • a complete disregard of any change to the status-quo
  • knowledge of spending other people's money
  • taking credit for other the work of others

But most importantly, he is a member of the private school business bourgeoisie that Melbourne loves nothing more than to self-indulge over.

The only roadblock is whether Premier Andrews will have forgiven any of those personal insults that were thrown his way... A promise that Essendon will get some easy fixturing over the next few years should do the trick.

Help us all if Carlton's no.1 ticket holder becomes the games top administrator.

I started writing about the job being decided already but decided to see how they intend to appoint the new CEO. The article below details that the afl has appointed a US based consultancy to assist. Yep 👍

I hope they get an external candidate and preferably not a Victorian.

I thought they offered it to him and he declined?

Or has something changed?

I get the feeling he may have a crack at state politics, possibly in an attempt to parachute him in as premier.

State politics would be a career-limiting choice for him.

Liberal coalitions have held government in that state for just 4 of the past 23 years.

The Andrews Labor government currently has a massive 55-27 incumbency, and polling suggests the teal wave that destroyed the Liberal vote in urban areas at the Federal election is likely to be replicated again when Victoria votes in November this year.

Victoria isn't going to have a Liberal premier for a very, very long time.

He would be foolish to not still have his sights on Canberra.

Dutton is unelectable. If Frydenberg were to make a comeback, I suspect he would be welcomed with open arms by the Liberal party.

I fully expect the party machine to bring forward the retirement of a long-serving member in a secure seat, triggering a by-election and parachute the former treasurer in as the party candidate.

For example, Russell Broadbent is the re-elected member for the division of Monash. He is 75 and has had 23 years in federal government.

He is also one of just 4 members to have voted against the legalisation of same-sex marriage, is a Covid vaccine denialist and openly promoted the use of Ivermectin within parliament.

It was widely expected that he would retire before the recent 2022 election due to his age and public stance on vaccines. I would not be at all surprised if in 2023 after the state election results have cooled he makes an announcement that provides Frydenberg with a ticket back in.

The downside if democracy is f****ards get their say.

not sure how closed the bubble is in WA but the guy declined the offer some time ago. save your energy for real stuff

With the floating fixtures, can anyone tell me how Essendon can get 3 Friday night games in a row?
Crowds are down. They're trying to discourage people from watching on TV so they'll go to games they pick themselves to get their fill!
