Cruelled by no future pick trading at that time. Nowadays would have got at least two firsts and change.

People need to let this go and focus on our very bright future, get your sunnies folks

Well.....I was reading the Jarman trade to the Crows analysis thread on the hawks page and they are adamant they didn't get a good deal either. Right after a sensational read and analysis on the Dawson deal by Swans fans and damn, the dockers are super sour over the McLeod deal.

Future pick trading was allowed at the time

Shouldn't have let Geelong trade their F1 to Carlton for Henderson. Should've demanded that pick along with the first rounder we got well before trade week had started. Geelong still would've got a bargain, but we may have landed Jarrod Berry or Tim English, instead of ending up with Gore and Menzel.

nothing to rehash, understandably the brutality of our mistreatment has left blackouts in some peoples’ recollection of the details

Also, perfectly reasonably, some people have assumed Geelong must have had some hitherto unknown leverage that forced us into taking a handful of beans.

They. Did. Not

David Noble had returned from a 1 week Harvard Executive Education seminar and was convinced he was going to run rings around the local yokels with his newly acquired knowledge

He was going to not “anchor” and draw it out, so he agreed a 4D chess manoeuvre and took the beans by lunchtime on day 1. This galaxy brain move would allow him turn those beans into a magic haul that would awe his doubters by the end.

Dear reader, he did not.

We were never going to win this trade though. We are bitter for really no reason. We made other mistakes that devalued those picks.

#pick 9 and #28 were the best we were going to get. Geelong made that clear when they traded their future first. Which means were were left with this offer or we get nothing and Danger walks to the draft. Gore was a steak knives part of the deal as we asked for a player.

#pick 9 netted us Milera which he has more than earned that pick.
#pick 28 and Kerridge netted us Menzel who at the time we rated this trade. But turned into a huge bust. Would have been interesting to see just who we rated in the actual draft around this pick. Redman was available.

Bottom line, we are mad about a trade we had literally no control over. Danger was gone, we made more mistakes by wasting the picks then what we did in the trade.

Yeah, that’s not even remotely true though

Geelong so had our number that we gave up an extra draft pick with Dean Gore because of all the extra value that they had given us

Like being made to pay extra for second hand floor mats at the car dealership.

I get the stance. But honestly we were still never getting any better value. Maybe they would have used pick 9 and 28 to trade up to pick 6 or so. But thats about it. We were head strong on Milera we would have taken him then too.

Tell us, what would have you done and still got the deal? Considering he would have walked to the draft.

embarrassing comment. 😃

if I think it comes up a bit because it's shameful we got played so hard as Geelong weren't as subtle as they thought they were. they tried the same playbook with Cameron and GWS some years later too but they weren't biting.

and if you get these big decisions so wrong then you can't really win. the big talents win it.

reid vetoing gibbs a year later also a shocker, andrew fagan might have been a phoney but even he understood the deal when he sent reid in the following year saying to make sure to get it done. but by then the ship had sailed.

reid still around 8 years later too!

It was also 8 years ago. Build a bridge. This was all sorted in the review. move on.

Why do you keep peddling this rubbish. Geelong hadn’t traded their future first, the Danger trade was the very first trade of that year’s trade period. Stop with the lies.

Like you’re doing? Why do you feel the need to come into this thread and support Noble with mistruths? Everyone else is at least using facts, you’ve swallowed 119’s lie and can’t let it go.

Why?

Im not supporting anything. I just dont care now about something that is incredibly irrelevant to our situation. We have even had a review where 99% of the club has turned over. The club screwed up by accepting unders. we get it. FFS move on. Arguing about who said what and who believes what plays literally not a single part on next season. Its not going to reverse the trade. God, you guys really hold a grudge. How about the non trade of Tippett for Brisbanes 2 first rounders just over a decade ago. Or how about sympathising with Hawthorn over screwing them out of Jarman. Oh wait..we are going to rabbit on about an 8 year old trade instead. For what?

It’s literally a thread for discussing it though.
If you don’t want to take part you don’t have to.

Ironic that the poster with the most to say conveniently neglects to mention that he was adamant the Crows would accept Free Agency compensation despite most posters saying otherwise.

Now he is the takeaway hindsight expert.

Someone should dig out the original thread as it's a great read.
