From Adelaide Now:

CROWS captain Mark Ricciuto will address a media conference at 4pm today, where he is expected to talk about his playing future. AdelaideNow will update the details as information becomes available.

Nathan van Berlo had been scheduled to speak to the media at the Adelaide Football Club, but the club announced that Ricciuto would hold a press conference instead.

There has been persistent speculation in the electronic media over recent days that Ricciuto was preparing to retire

There can't have been a year with such cummulative ability retiring. Add Archer, Darcy and probably Chris Grant to the names mentioned. Possibly Mal Michael. Maybe Scott Burns and a few others. Some perhaps not in the usual Buckley/Hird etc debates but all seriously good players.

In a way I beg to differ, I think 1997 was the ultimate year of retirements of all time greats and legends of the game - IE Kernahan, Greg Williams and Gary Ablett.

All three of those great players will one day be elevated to legend status in the Hall of Fame, and apart from Michael Voss and James Hird, I do not think any of the other retirees of this year's group (Nathan Buckley included) deserve to be regarded as Legends of Australian Rules footy, unlike Sticks, Diesel, and Ablett Snr, three icons of the game who transcended the other players around them, and are totally revered at each club.

Completely pointless comment with no relevance to the thread. But since you bring it up......Roo is easily in the same league as those 4 mentioned. Absolute champion of the game who will be sorely missed.
The point is the callibre of the retirees next year. I know what it looks like, but I rate Riccuito and Archer with those four. All absolute legends

I'm pretty sure the AFL cavalcade is back on and yes, we are all sorry to hear about Roo's body not being up to it, hope he get's one last game in Adelaide.

This year will see a beavy of talent retirements, and its possible the cherry on the cake could be Mr 1%er himself Danial Chick.

Ok, ok, ok...I'll preempt the bagging I will get from everyone for including Chick's name in such estemed company.....he is good at the 1%ers though!!

Add Chick, McManus, Parker, O'Loughlin, Clarke... a lot of players. Terrible year to scrap the lap around the G

Ricciuto, along with Mcleod and Goodwin... once these guys retire... nope I don't want to hurt crows fans feelings about my opinion of their future

Ricciuto - 8 time all-australian... proves his consistency over a decade, fantastic for his club as a leader too. as much as i disliked him coz of the rivalry, can't deny his amazing contribution to the afc

As I said on the Adelaide Board - all the best for Roo and his family for the future and our greatest ever player will be sorely missed.

Hmm does anyone seriously think that Mcleod is the Crows greatest player ahead of Andy Mcleod ?

Roo has been a wonderful champion and a club icon, but I believe Mcleod is the Crows greatest and most influential player of all time in it's relatively short history, he was the lynch pin of the club's two premierships, and I believe greatness is forged during the finals, and on that basis, plus due to the fact he is still damn explosive and dangerous at his age, Andrew Mcleoud is the Crows greatest ever player, but that isn't an insult to Riccuitio, who is one of the toughest and greatest leaders of men I've seen in the modern era.

Props to him as well for his involvement in that brawl with those Port players in that SA pub a few years ago :D
