Now don't shoot the messenger but I read on the Doggies board that our clubs might be contemplating a Cole for Birss swap at seasons end. I wouldn't mind a swap of Power for Cole and Birss might also work for me. Should we trade Richie at all, after the year he's had his value is at an alltime low.

Cole for Birss sounds good to me. Doggies have tons of quality midfielders and some of them simply cant get a game.

lol, i know his first name is shane......thats about it. from what i can recall of him i wouldnt exactly call him a 'quality' midfielder. i actually saw him play in the vfl the other week and went ok there but thats not much to go on

Shane Birss
DOB 11/3/83
Hgt 183
Wgt 80

A Knee injury in 2004 kept him sidelined until round 17, but he made an immediate impact on his return. Averaged 19 diposals with a high of 24 against Port Adelaide in round 20 and impressed with his PACE and fierce desire to win the ball. Entering his 4th year of senior football, the strongly built 22 year old will be hoping for an injury free run as he closes on his 50th game.

If we hang on to Johnno I'd take that swap, it think Birss is quite handy. I've never thought much of Cole, I was almost swayed by his 2004 season but as expected he fell apart this year.

Shane Birss is an onballer, not sure about speed, but finds it. Impact Player, as seen in my impact statistics for this season.

birss is still fairly skinny, but he is hard at it, and likes to run and kick long even though his pace and kicking accuracy are about average. probably the main reason he likes to run and kick long are that he needs to improve is decision making, and thats a good fallback disposal option for him.

so I see him playing a similar game to rhyce shaw with the exception that he isnt as quick, but his kicking is more accurate, and he regualrly gets his own hard ball. so rather than just a flanker, he will make a decent inside midfielder.

seeing as we have morris, smith, macmahon and gilbee holding down small defender spots, and a midfield rotation as long as your arm, we have no need of birss or cole for that matter.

but definately we need to move excess midfied types like birss and b.murphy on to other clubs for the good of those players and to get draft picks or KPP to the dogs.

dunno anything about him apart from tall forward option. whats wrong with him? you guys arent exactly falling over for tall forward options yourself with rocca on the way out.

T Cloke
C Cloke
Fraser
Tarrant
Maxwell
Davidson
Richards
Rocca (still has three years)
Walker
Rusling
Buckley (can play 2-3 years as a permanant full forward)

Tall forwards are not a problem as long as they stay fit. There's depth, and with Cloke Rusling and Tarrant plenty of star quality for the future. Walker is dispensable, but not for another iffy kpp.

is that the order you rate your tall forwards? whats wrong with walker?

I figure rocca is on the way out because he cant string a season together anymore.

No, its a random list. But Walker is near the bottom.

Walker can play both ends of the ground, but cant do either of them well enough. He's not a natural footballer, hasnt got the brain for it. Genuinely big unit and athletic enough to succeed but unfortunately hasnt shown enough improvement, and in fact went backwards big time this year. He'll possibly get one more chance at Collingwood next year, he's a 50/50, but if any offer came up for his services, he'll probably be traded for a midfielder or a draft pick.

I'm sorry but you've lost me, how is Rocca at 28 on the way out? He can play out of the square for another 5-6 years. And what about Grant who is 33 this year? I would consider that on the way out. By all means feel free to have a rational discussion on our board, but if you continue to post this crap we'll all think your an idiot.

i dont remember starting a ********ing contest. whens the last time rocca strung a season together? some players are just injury prone for whatever reason and it cuts their career short, others play 250 consecutive games.
