Trade + FA targets 2024

Taberner will be 32 in 2025. No thanks.
The Taberner talk is a bit mystifying, but it seems to pop up every year. I’m not sure why we’d invest assets in pro scouting a tall forward with McStay, Mihocek and McInnes all in their prime still in 2025, but if we did it’s Thilthorpe. He replaces Cox day one of 2025.

Settled for losing.
They have the same salary cap as us. Imagine the lack of pressue to earn at their mob compared to ours at the moment. If you're in it for the dough, its an easy gig at some of the shit teams

Well you wouldn't want someone with that attitude anyway.
Agreed. However I believe that not all are in it for the romance of success. Some are content to cruise and make some serious coin at the same time

Trying to work out why we needed a second trade and FA thread to discuss the exact same things we could discuss in the original trade and FA thread tbh…

You’re saying we should let this thread walk in FA? What sort of compo should we expect?

The convenience of only having to open one trade and FA thread is all the compo I need.

This thread isn’t meant for discussion
It’s for people to nominate their trade and FA targets for EOY
I’ll then move the names back to the discussion thread then

Andrew McGrath, he never gets mentioned, fairly sure he's a free agent and becoming a very good player

Always been a slow burn for one reason or another, too much risk that he's just having a peak year or two now and will go back to being fairly mediocre.

why would anyone do that?

Eagles have their 15.8m 17.7m of TPP to spend every year just like all of the other clubs. Weather is nicer over there too if you don't mind it a bit on the warmer side.

Any attempt by a thread starter to control where the thread goes is always good for a bit of a giggle, because we all know it's not going to happen... 😅

Remember when a few desperate individuals tried to get the Nathan Freeman thread to be about Nathan Freeman?

Pepperidge Farm remembers…

I know Ollie Wines signed a contract extension but surely that was only Port protecting their position.

I would have a crack at him - similar I guess to when Mitchell was at Hawks or Adams with us. Both being forced out of their preferred roles.

A player from the Kangaroos I like is Paul Curtis. Didn't play well yesterday but have seen him in earlier games do some really nice things. Generally seems to be a good finisher. Maybe he is one we recruit for a half forward role and McCreery graduates to a full time mid?

Wines is 30 this year. Given our demographic think he’s to old

Throw an offer at Sam Darcy and rock the boat at the Dogs. Yes, unlikely to move but they must have a lot of cash invested in others of his type and Bont. English will likely be sacrificed though a bit like Grundy
I think Rucks are overrated. We won with cox and Cameron. Geel before that. Dees with Gawn are obviously good but I think you can make do with 5-600k rucks and invest elsewhere.

Port last night are an example of that. Soldo is average but they dominated because they have the $ in mids

Is born and bred bulldogs…

If the pies want a young ruck Ned Moyle is the kid to throw coin at

The other week he beat English in hit outs in only his 3rd senior game

He’ll go on to be a Witt’s like low possession but great tap ruckman

Posted elsewhere, we should look at Jarrod Berry from Brisbane as an inside mid.
Rumour is there could be cap issues up there and he could be squeezed out.

The difference with English is that he’s actually a good all round player. He’s a good mark, can kick goals, is a beautiful field kick and is a competent ruck.
If you’re looking to recruit English it’s not for his ruck work it’s for everything else he brings to the table.

With the way things are shaping I don't think we're in the position to make any high cost "win now" acquisitions, at least not for for someone like Wines at 30 years of age and especially not when we have big holes at either end of the ground to deal with.

Yup good call. Would be a good get.

Jack McRae on the cheap next year, We need another extractor and he’s one of the best.

Holmes would be good and someone like Luke Ryan from Freo epic.
I doubt we are getting Luke Ryan. If they wanted two first rounders for Schultz they would want a lot lot more. I love Ryan but I reckon he is also helped by the style that Freo play.

The thing that annoys me with Smith and Macrae from the Dogs is that we are in a way helping the Dogs with their salary cap. They will then be able to afford Darcy and Jamara and maybe English.
