No mention of the AFLW season starting on Talking Tigers, the Official Richmond podcast. See those guys back in “summer” to talk about the mens trades. Don’t worry, Nick and Andy on Richmond Tiger Talk will carry the flame, AGAIN! Pretty poor really.

Cox to miss 2024 AFLW season

Richmond will be without utility Katelyn Cox for the 2024 AFLW season following a recent knee injury at training.

The 26-year-old ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee and has undergone a knee reconstruction.

Cox has played in all of Richmond’s 22 AFLW games since the Club selected her with pick No. 60 overall in the 2022 AFLW Draft.

The former VFLW star and mature-aged recruit has finished in the top 10 of Richmond’s best and fairest in each of her two seasons in the AFLW.

Richmond Head of Women’s Football, Kate Sheahan, said it was devastating news for the popular figure.

“We are all very disappointed for Katelyn who is a much loved and respected member of the playing group, that she will be unable to play any football for us this season,” she said.

“Katelyn was having an excellent pre-season and preparing herself to play another important role for us this year before this unfortunate injury occurred.

“The playing group has rallied around her and we will all support her throughout her rehabilitation and help her to return fitter and stronger in 2025.”

Cox, who will remain a key part of the football program in an off-field capacity, will be moved to Richmond’s Inactive List, due to the injury.

The Club is able to name a replacement player in her season-long absence.

The Tigers will kick off their sixth season in the AFLW competition against West Coast in Round 1 at Mineral Resources Park on Friday, August 30

The upcoming AFLW Practice Matches will be free to attend for all fans and live-streamed on club websites.
