Completely overrated due to his 2008 season and being a likeable guy.
Not as overrated as Hird.

Everyone?800 goals in shit team. Could easily have been more. Nearly won a Brownlow. Everyone loves him.
How do you rate him? Is he up there with Hird, Buckley, Voss etc???
Reading his book has got me thinking that I seriously underrated this guy.
Why is it that whenever there's a positive Richmond thread in the general AFL board, it suddenly gets dragged down by Essendon supporters?
No-one even mentioned Essendon, yet here you all come...
The brownlow is a shit arguement, it just means the umpires liked himLol just shows you have no idea what you are talking about. Not much chop around the ground but almost won a Brownlow from the wing.
YOU IDIOT!
Truly a great character of the game - and one of the few in recent times.
Was possibly the greatest wingman the game had seen in a long time - tragically it took Richmond 15 years to wake up to this fact and he showed how good he was by kicking 800 goals as a forward.
What could he have achieved if played in his rightful position?
I swear I have seen this thread at least 4 times. Great mark, horrible kick, played on the wing for one season and is apparently a great around the ground player. Saying that being in a shit team and a great player means nothing. Being in that team he was getting most of the delivery, Fevola was a great player in a shit team and kicked more goals.
They didn't mention Essendon either. The OP asked how people rated him and they purely stated their opinion that they think that while he was a good player, his last few years were better than the rest of his career and therefore they believe views on him are skewed.
Stop having a whinge
Not whinging, stating fact. First response to the OP is an Essendon sledge, followed by many more
To me it just looks like a clear pattern:Their team of choice is irrelevant, they are stating what they believe to be true. You are the one who is highlighting and bringing Essendon into the discussion.
What's wrong with Richo? Choked on big stages, and as a player, wasn't the natural winner that others are. Most of all, he didn't make his teammates (or his team) better. He wasn't as inspiring a forward as he was unreliable. You're in midfield, kicking it to the forward line. Who gives you more conviction in your play, Plugger, Hall, Carey, Dunstall, Treadrea, Lloyd or Richo?
That's why he is emphatically not one of the greats. No matter how nice a chap he is.
Scathing. Was he better than Sumich?
To me it just looks like a clear pattern:
Essendon supporters really must be doing it hard at the moment....
- Richmond based thread starts
- Essendon supporters post almost immediately, and almost always a negative one
- Objective posters cringe
.
- Richmond based thread starts
- Both Essendon and non-Essendon fans believe he is not as good as some others think
- Essendon fans are stupid
800 goals, I think 11th on the all time goal kicking list most of it done as a high half forward. I wouldn't mind that record, Richo's main problem was no one bar Richmond supporters likes him until the last few years and that includes people in the media.
Completely overrated due to his 2008 season and being a likeable guy.
For the majority of his career he was a massive massive disappointment and underachiever.
Fevola kicked less goals than Richo you genius.
