Has anyone seen this kid play in the SANFL and what he's like bar the usual draft speak? Speaking to a friend who knows the draft she reckons we have picked up a steal with this lad.

AND still growing apparently...

You don't want him to grow too much, see Jackson. Went from a really fluid smooth-mover to a bit gangly in that last growth spurt.

Can confirm our recruiting staff had Bonner ranked number 11 on their big board/player rankings and Johnson at number 19.

My uncle is mates with Matthew Richardson who works for the club and they saw each other today. As you would expect, the club is delighted that they dropped to us.

Thanks for that insight. No wonder Kenny was beaming :) It is so so good. So now we can pretend we had pick 11 and 19 as well as getting big Dix and Toump.

He only played 1 league game, several Reserves games and some Under 18 games. He will be physically stronger next year and better for it.

The wraps on his kicking are correct. He's an elite kick, long and accurate. Dominated several Under 18 games, racking up possessions as an on-baller at that level, but more at home at half-back.

Needs to improve his defensive game, but that will come.

He could turn out to be an elite player.

Although we have a lot of players who play the same role. I dont think anyone has claimed it as their own yet apart from Pittard.

I'm hoping Krakour does next year, as he is our most composed player. But who knows, could be bonner.

Found this ... Riley Bonner

Bloody hell that is as natural and a correct looking right foot kick by a natural left footer I have ever seen. most left footers look unco on their right foot even if they kick it very accurately. I exclude Sam Mitchell from that because he spent the first 9 or 10 years kicking on his right foot rarely kicking on his left even though he was a natural left footer. I reckon I saw him use his left a hand full of times, whereas the last 2 years he rarely uses his right.

Bickley asked Parker about Bonner and his athletics background. Parker said he has taken it seriously and is a 400m and 800m runner. I was pleased to hear that.

10-12 years ago the desire was to find 800/1500m type athletes ie players with decent speed and decent endurance. Shane Crawford was able to run an 800m in 1.53-1.55, around the time he won the brownlow and early naughties before he bulked up, which is pretty good given the last 15 years you have needed a 1.46 to qualify for the Olympics or World champs. Only about 20 Oz male athletes have run a 1.46 flat or less.

But the last 5 years or so with the rotations, better and longer running training, and the game staying closer to 100% flat out pace for longer, the athleticism of footballers has been more like 400m runners, ie have a few half the oval type sprints and then go off have a rest and come back for more.

Stoked with getting Bonner as I love an elite kick, but the thing that's got me most excited going through footage of him is his poise and vision in traffic. A few wayward handballs not quite hitting their targets, but you can see he knows where the oppo are around him, and what the best option for getting a teammate out into space is. A talented, natural footy player. The fact that he seems a natural athlete just makes it better.

Looks like a Jasper Pittard type player, but with much better skills. Hopefully he can come in for him if he ever has to go out, and then make it hard for Pittard to earn his spot back, making him lift his game.
jasper's skills are fine, it's his decision making that lets him down.
