the real decline was when Gabe suffered burnout and was replaced. There were periods since when ROH was still good, but Gabe WAS ROH.

Nah I don't agree with this. ROH was at its hottest with the NJPW partnership and The Elite on every show. What ****ed them over was never pulling the trigger on guys like Dalton Castle, Jay Lethal, Punishment Martinez, Flip Gordon or even Marty (before Speaking Out) when they got over huge being involved with BTE (or in the case of Martinez, just being awesome). Even with NXT poaching their talent they always managed to replace them. They replaced Punk, Danielson, Joe, Daniels and more with the Steen generation and could've done so after they all left but ****ed it up not pushing those guys.

The guys who ended up getting pushed were Matt ****ing Taven, Bully ****ing Ray and a 55+ retiree who made up one half of the legendary Quebecers who got the titles and spotlight. If ROH ever sinks for good, the exact moment to pinpoint their death knell is the MSG show where Taven wins the title over 10 other guys who were 99x more over than he's ever been.

But they haven't even been a great breeding ground for talent these days. 5-10 years ago, Wheeler Yuta and Daniel Garcia are in ROH on multi year deals. Now they're in AEW. ROH would've spotted guys like that before anyone else did even with AEW around. With the possible exceptions of Danhausen and maybe Brodie King, who have they gotten over from nothing recently?

I genuinely believe with the right people behind them ROH could compete with AEW for #2 or at least be a clear #3 in the States (not counting NJPW) but they've been horribly mismanaged since Sinclair took over and that was 10 years ago.

When you see who was on their roster at various stages, it’s just mind blowing as to why they never truly capitalised on it.

CM Punk, Samoa Joe, Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castognoli (Cesaro), AJ Styles, The Brisco’s, War Machines, The Young Bucks. They could have easily been number 2 in the states at one stage, instead they lost a lot of talent to both Impact and WWE, by wanting to remain an internet based company, rather than a tv based company.

They are way down the list now, I wouldn’t even have them in the top 5 in the US. They really need more working agreements with other companies.

the top 3 promotions in the world right now would be 1.WWE 2/3 NJPW/AEW. In the US it would be 1.WWE 2. AEW 3/4 Impact/NJPW. If they acted on expending 15 years ago they could easily be where AEW is now.

I can understand why guys like Samoa Joe, CM Punk, Cesaro and Danielson left when they did (money) and by and large they were replaced with people just as good in Steen, Zayn, YB's, Cole, KOR, Strong and others. Briscoe's have a history of being shit heads and if ROH ever pushed them seriously then I could see that going the same way Marty did so no harm no foul there. ROH's problem was having guys like Punishment, MOOSE and god knows who else and just destroying all their momentum.

Problem with ROH is before Sinclair came along they were just effectively a super indie and needed to draw in all the up and coming talent they could. Since Sinclair took over, they've had the money to keep their big names but haven't, and instead of replacing them like ROH did before, they've kept faith in guys people stopped giving a shit about years ago like Lethal or guys no one cared about to begin with like Taven.

And I'd say they're below AAA and STARDOM now in terms of popularity with how shit they've been. They need to get in on the Forbidden Door stuff and sign a big name or two otherwise they'll sink below GCW/MLW/NWA and imagine saying that 5 years ago.

they had/have luchadores like Rush, Dragon Lee, and Bandito (and gave focus to Brody King and Gresham), so it's not like they're not introducing new talent.

Bandido and Lee were getting sweet offers from AEW when they first started up and only turned them down to keep the NJPW/CMLL connections (then they got sacked by CMLL after anyway). No one has the power of hindsight otherwise those two and the other luchas in ROH like Rush, Flamita and Rey Horus all end up in Jacksonville. Not to mention a certain El Idolo is friends with them all and it's been reported by Meltz for awhile that he wants them in AEW along with Ric and Charlotte.

In short, they don't count. Brodie King, Danhausen and Gresham are the only ones that ROH have actually done anything to build up and in the case of Danhausen it's been his own doing getting his name out there.

Bad news is this probably means Danhausen in AEW.

Good news is this probably means Bandido and Dragon Lee in AEW.

For clarity's sake too, but Sinclair did have a massive ransomware attack and it's being rumoured they're struggling financially. I don't see ROH coming back under Sinclair. It either gets swallowed up by AEW/WWE or someone buys it out. Not saying it will happen (this is actually on the lower end of probability) but FITE buying out ROH is probably what I'd like to see the most.

I feel really bad for the 3 Australians, Slex, Brooksy and Kellyanne who were just waiting for the right time to head over. From thinking you've got the biggest opportunity of your life to become a full time wrestler, to being released before you even got there in the case of Brooksy and Kellyanne. I hope those 2 in particular can pick up some regular bookings overseas, they're both way too good to only be wrestling a couple of times a month in Australia.

Kellyanne has done a couple of US/SHIMMER tours, but I'm buggered if I can understand why she's never been invited to do a Stardom tour. She could easily be the top heel in Stardom.

‘AEW are planning a streaming service:think: (except they would need to edit out the music unless TK wants to pay for all that)

A real shame for international wrestlers to lose a company that could be a work visa source.

Until we get a clearer picture of what exactly Sinclair is doing it's a bit hard to discuss.

Well the music would already be edited out for whatever shows are already on HonorClub. I think there's less than 200 shows prior to 2010 when things got more professional so it's not an impossible task to edit it out.

unfortunately certain wrestlers are synonymous with certain themes (Danielson "Final Countdown" Punk "Miseria Cantare" etc) so either muting the songs or editing out the music sucks a bit of the fun out of the show, especially those with crowd interaction.

Nah, this is what the death of a mid-level wrestling company looks like. People online seem much more optimistic than me - I tend to think that if it weren't for Sinclair's ownership everyone would consider this the death of ROH.

Sadly, I think I just gave away a heap of dvds from the glory days of ROH. 24 hours ago they weren't worth anything.
