Very nervous about this one, I'm actually more confident against Geelong in round two as in we have nothing to lose and will play like it. Tigers mids worry me now with Taranto and Hopper so we really need Harry or Charlie to kick 5+, Cripps to be Cripps and early last years versions of Kennedy and Hewett.

Neutrals will keep tipping against us until we actually earn our reputation.

So I take it you think Grimes will beat Charlie and you're tipping Richmond?
Which is fair enough but there is also a lot of neutrals who are hoping Richmond fall off a cliff.

I am tipping Richmond but I do think only one of Harry or Charlie will be kept quiet so if Harry is beaten, Charlie should get off the chain.

If Taranto and hopper are the kind of guys that scare you then don’t want the season this year.

Hooper would be our 5th best mid and Taranto is worse than Hewett

I’m tipping Carlton and neither will be quiet 😁

Positivity people like seriously it’s Richmond not the avengers

I just got an email from the club after complaining about lack of communication in regards to player injuries. They spoke about Cripps McKay and Newman were rested and will be available round 1 and Durdin possibly too. Still no information about Gov however.
Good they gave a response I guess and nice to get confirmation about Newman just being rested. In the article with the practice match squads for the Sydney game it did say Gov and Martin were in full training for Round 1. So seems it was just management (and in Gov's case might have had to do with the birth of his child)

I wouldn't be worried about Hopper. He enjoys a handball but I don't think he's actually that good. He's not damaging. Taranto on the other hand...

Richmond lucked out getting Taranto. Their team is aging, Prestia is a concern with his body, Cotchin is well past his best and they are trying to invent him as a forward which won't work. Martin has his days but no where near elite now imo.

The cliff isn't far away for this team and if they don't get it right with their young kids extremely fast, they will fall off and be down for a while.

Yep Taranto/Hopper are the answers to all the tigers midfield worries…..spare me.

Taranto & Hooper improve their inside grunt & clearance work, Tigers also have the outside skill & speed to really hurt teams in transition (defending this is our biggest worry)..... I think they are better balanced this year in the middle.

First possession, ball use and hitting the scoreboard is critical for us.

Def: Weitering, Saad, McGov, Young, Cowan, Newman, Cincotta

For: Harry, Charlie, JSOS, Mots, Doc, Martin, Durdin (small)

Mids: TDK, Crippa, Cerra, George, Blakacres, Hollands, Bam Bam, LOB

Sub: Walsh ;) or Kemp....

Cheeky pick of Walsh, but a very fit version was sited at the Royal Oak Saturday, enjoying a lovely red with Paddy Dow and Charlie....... Kemp my back up

LOB over Fisher, better kick that's all

Doc as defensive forward first, mid cut out second, defensive back up

Time for a change, three newbies and Blakacres club debut; generational moment

Only need one ruck against this mob, a more mobile TDK out everythings Nanknervous, back up comes from combination of JSOS and Young

I keep reading you guys say we will win and win well. I have nothing against optimism, but we are playing a side that has beaten us up for approximately a decade. The time we beat them (round one last year) happened through a last quarter fight back after their best player had gone off injured. And to finish the picture, their greatest area of weakness (midfield) has been substantially strengthened in the off-season.

None of this is to say we can’t win. But I’m personally going to temper my expectations.
Tigers have been one of the benchmarks for most of this 10 year period, l don't see that being the case now.
They are still in contention to be top 8 but l don't see them matching the very best sides with their ageing list, on that basis if we cannot move pass them this season, our progress should be questioned .

Richmond are not the team they were through the premiership years.

They have dropped off over the past few years but still have enough quality to cause issues for most sides. Expecting them to fight it out with us for one of the spots in the bottom half of the 8.

I am a big fan of Taranto who should be a fantastic addition. Not so much Hopper, he's a good footballer but hasn't yet reached the heights expected of him as a junior. That may change at a new club but he's not a young kid any more.

Hewett is absolutely a better footballer than Hopper.

This won't be an easy game. Anyone expecting to thrash them is kidding themselves. We're a really good chance here but they are no easy beats. 50/50 game.
