Only useful thing i heard was Mark Maclure calling Hampson "unco". Don't know how that spud gets a game
I guess it would have been a highlight if Naitanui had deliberately backheeled the ball to Betts who set up Lucas. Wait, that was Hampson. Amazing that we have so many ignorant spuds who call themselves supporters. Hammer doesn't know how to use his body as a KPF, but he's not a unco as a ruck and lead up forward.

I think Hammer might struggle if it's wet tonight, seeing as he's mostly a one effort guy (mark or nothing) and he's not particularly agile or strong over the ball.

That said, he's been in my forward line setup all summer long, in the fwd pocket, next to Casboult, as named yesterday.

We definitely need and want him to be dangerous when forward, but his standout value should be annihilating opposition second rucks for ~30% of the game.

Rain renders Hampson useless, but boosts Kreuzer (but no more than Maric).

Rain makes Juddy better, but also turns Shane Tuck into a superstar.

Cotchin and Murphy will be awesome regardless.

One problem is I think Jack Riewoldt's smarts make him harder and harder to stop the less ideal the conditions. I think our defence will struggle in the wet because they're not overly physical. Another is our team physicality and clearance "issues" get exacerbated in the wet, where 90kg middies rule.

All of that leads me to conclude.... I have no idea what's going to happen tonight.

I'll use this to remind posters that we don't tolerate player name calling. If you want to discuss a player's shortfalls, then do so in a constructive manner. No spuds, duds, anything indicating a disability ... especially when the player is still with us. It's about finding the quality ceiling, not the floor.

Deep down I'm hoping that the squad named last night was conditional on the weather. Praying that Laidler is a late inclusion for Bootsma if it's going to be greasy.

I love talking in pictures.

Didn't watch the games prior to the NAB Cup GF, I'm assuming? Let me guess, you're one of those people that exultantly groans as if they've just been penetrated by Willem Defoe whenever Hampson drops a mark?

These mentally deficient masses are the same who think switching the ball is 'wasting time' and that players should 'man up' at all times instead of implementing a zone.

Maclure I would suggest is marginally more qualified on an educated view at the highest level. It's best to look at Hampson past six seasons as a pointer to the future. Anyhow what would an ex captain know that held the key forward position at our club for years and is just one of the masses.
If Chaplin plays on Hampson will get 20 and get in their best.

Yet all these people remain strangely quiet whenever Hampson plays well. He takes far more contested marks than people are willing to admit. Just because he often drops easy ones doesn't mean that his overall game is as rubbish as people like to make out.

I know we have a ton of rucks, but I wouldn't mind seeing us go in with just Kruez, and have Levi spelling him every now and then.

Kind of like Collingwood ran with Jolly and Lee Brown

Matty just seems to lift when he's the loan recognised ruckman

I actually think Hampson is a bit of a weapon for you guys. Last year he was too tall down in that forward line although tonight our defence is much taller with Griffiths 200cm, Chaplin 195cm and Rance smallest at 194cm. I am shocked Laidler is omitted for Bootsma.

I'd only consider this a wet-weather option. Hammer must play in the dry - and probably will in the wet regardless.

yer sorry, with everyone talking wet weather, that's what I meant. Should have clarified

New Murphy Guernsey arrived yesterday. Keeping up the tradition of "guernsey must be worn game day" I look a treat with it over the work shirt

More concerned about Levi with his lack of mobility and size, but his saving grace is he has great hands and can bring it to ground for our smalls. You can see Betts, Walker, Armfield and Garlett picking up a lot of crumbs at the feet of Kreuzer, Hampson and Casboult. Hope Walker runs Rance around to leave Casboult against Chaplin and Griffiths against our rucks. Hope they can switch and push forward like they did against Sydney in Kreuzer's second game back. Kreuzer was roving to Hampson in the game.

Big bodies and sure footing (Levi) trumps tall leaping athlete types (Hammer) in the wet. Body work is absolutely crucial, to be able to turn your opponent and gain advantage at the drop of the ball in slippery conditions. Hampson, to be frank, sucks at this. Casboult's job tonight should just be to destroy Tiger bodies from go to woah. Out of that carnage, our smalls can do damage.

I'm increasingly terrified of Jack Riewoldt at the other end. He's great at body work.

Wouldn't be too terrified by Jack, it was raining last time and Jamo kept him to 1 goal (or none - cant remember which one).

This game will come down to midfield - as any always do. If we get on top and give our forwards a fair chance of marking (unlike kicking to feet and on their heads against Brisbane) we will be good. A good start will be critical - shut down the tigers ASAP and kill their undeserved confidence.

Haven't seen Jack have too many games in the wet and considering the conditions we are going to need Hampson and Levi to put some forward pressure on the defense because they are going to struggle to mark if the conditions are wet. Can't have any passengers not putting on tackling pressure when we get the ball in the forward 50.

I'd be surprised if it's that wet tonight guys. Showers are clearing in the morning then with the way the MCG dries out, I imagine it will be pretty close to dry weather football.
