I wonder if Cripps still talks/instructs like a captain even when Murphy is on the field?
You'd like to think he does. He really appears to be a natural leader.

I can get on board with going after Adelaide's Lynch...seems gettable.

Curnow, McKay and Kerr all so young and inexperienced...plus I'd prefer to move on from casboult after this year.

Pickett and garlett inexperienced as well.

Would be good to have a mature player like Lynch in the forward line.

If we do then draft a mid with our first. With more depth there we will be far better and guys like Sps and Fisher can spend some time forward, helping solve our problem of a lack of small forwards.

Let’s see how the second half of the season plays out. Then we get the best fit.

Seems to working out well and I think for us the horse has bolted

Track officials caught the horse , jockey remounted and they are back in the starting gates. I’m looking fwd to playing the cats. Interested in selection . Go the Navy Blues .

Jacob Weitering
Stats: 17 disposals, 10 marks, 6 rebound 50s
From the coach: ‘Weiters’ had the job on Schoenmakers, where he was really strong one-on-one and was able to leave him at the right time to intercept and impact. His direction and leadership in the back half was fantastic.

Jack Silvagni
Stats: 14 disposals, 5 tackles, 1 goal
From the coach: Jack found himself spending more time forward this week, where he had good moments with leading patterns and took a strong contested mark which led to a goal. He also spent time on the inside where he was strong at the contest

The best centre bounce clearance combo in the entire comp!

Now that's something.

Maybe barkers not so bad after all, just need the cattle.
If Barker's magic formula requires two prototypical contested mids and the best defensive midfielder in the competition, it's not really much chop.

Either we tend to recruit some of the dumbest professional footballers in the land, or some of our coaches aren't that smart. Whether that's in their tactics, in their communication skills or in their ability to maintain composure under expected duress, I don't quite know.

The result is the same, however: our regular stoppage setups and kickouts are some of the worst in the league.

So many positives

Weitering Cuningham & Silvagni pushing for senior selection
I really hope Cuningham Dow & SPS step up over the next 12 months. Those three with Cripps could be something special. Speed, skills & X factor
Polson coming along nicely. Now injury free for first time. This kid can play
Schumacher I have liked since pre season. Big unit and a great left foot. Bit of a character. Will play senior footy this year
Willo will be a star

So good to see. Go Blues

Once they stopped just getting kids and playing them and chased older mature players who weren't going to be the future

It's called development. Got games into the kids, wore the loses and now benefits are starting to show. I think they have done well. This year we will add some mature talent to our great list of kids so why not get the kids up to speed asap. Sounds right to me

That model completely failed them. They changed it then they started to succeed.

Totally disagree. They have had a plan, stuck to it, rode the bumps and now it's just starting to pay off. You only have to look at all the young players now at 30 games plus starting to influence games. The lesson for us is it was hard, there were bad days, lots of oustide experets telling them they were wrong and it took time. I don't think there is much between us although at this stage I like our list better

Be clear, I'm talking about when Roos took over. Under Neeld the issues ran deeper than playing kids. Also, when I talk about getting games into our young players I always mention that we have 6-7 very senior players in every side and we now have a group of players in their third years.

We aren't talking about 18 debutants.

Correct.

Go and tell a Melbourne fan their initial rebuild worked. They will laugh in your face, because it was an utter failure.

They then made some significant changes - including finding a better balance between youth and experience - and now find themselves where they are today.

Wasn't the discussion
