To be fair, he had a few teammates during the early parts of the season who were struggling for touch and were given the opportunity to find form in the seniors...
Excellent point.…including players we love… close is the poster boy for that. He was terrible in our losses but got the opportunity against West Coast and Hawthorn roadkills. He was back to his best in those and then another road kill in sydney and carried that over to Adelaide.

Sliding door but if they dropped him for say Dempsey it might be that Dempsey dominated in those games and Close would need to displace him? Who knows. But they saw fit to give close the chance to stay in the team - which I agree with - to find form. Where if they take Parf out now (and I would understand why) he comes in against a very tough midfield and then one and done I think means they are slowly moving beyond him…

I would also rather send Ceglar given he was actually not too bad against Richmond.

Not seeing a plethora of options if he can't go though. I could be wrong but last week was the first 4 quarter game he's played all year and he tried to come off at 3 quarter time. This will be a travelling game too, though the longer break could help.
Agree. I think they take a punt (with the longer break - and despite the 5 hour flight) to see if Ceglar can give at least 3 qtrs in Perth. Given Darcy. Given SDK one more week to tune up and then replace Ceglar at home for GWS…would be what I do (FWIW)

With this many out of our best side it’ll be hard work beating any team playing away from GMHBA that isn’t WCE, Hawks or North.

Like I said last week.... I’ll take the W any way we can get it.

Close's averages over the first 3 weeks:
10 disposals, 0.3 goals & 1.66 tackles

Those numbers were well down on his past 2 seasons and not a great return for a 50 gamer we knew could provide more

With Parfitt it's not necessarily about keeping him in the seniors until he finds form, but giving him continuity at one level for a period of time, rather than in & out of teams, missing weeks as the carry over emergency etc - yes we want to start seeing more from Parfitt, but we also need to give him the best chance to find form and not sure we've really helped with that over recent times

Thinking longer on this, it is really hard to see which option is higher risk

Breath of fresh air compared to the tigers board. The posters seem knowledgeable and respectful of other teams. Richmond fanbase is the absolute worse - low iq dribble. No wonder they spit on their own coaches. Imagine treating a coach like this over a football game:

**** me that is pure filth.

I like most of this but SDK with his mask against brute force rucks first game up I'm not so keen on. What's the alternative, Blicavs purely as a ruck and we lose one of our best stoppage mids?
I think a lot of fans still think it's the 90s when guys got a 25m run-up to launch into one another. The circles completely changed the danger of rucking.

You're much more likely to get injured from a stray elbow (like SDK did) or in a marking contest where players have a big run up than in the centre circles where they're limited to 2 steps.

SDK has been in the wars this year but I don't think any of the knocks have been in a ruck contest. The question should be if he's ready and if he's the best option in the ruck not worrying about risking him in a position no more dangerous than key defence.

Fair enough. I just want to look after him, like a baby lamb.

Stengle, Stanley, Rohan, Cuthrie, Danger, SDK, and Bowes all listed last week as ‘short term’ injuries. Henry listed as ‘medium term’. If CS is saying Henry is a chance this week, does that mean the others are also?

Can’t see us swinging 9 changes (inc. Close) in one week, especially over in WA, but would be nice to have these guys back in the next 1-3 weeks.

Where did Scott say Henry Is a chance.

We already know "what he (Parfitt) can do" - scrounge a few kicks at the margins, lay tackles and kick high up and under.

And why should he - as against anyone else - be gifted a month just to see whether he can turn in to a butterfly.
We could really use someone who can lay a lot of tackles right now. It was an area where we were beaten comprehensively by the Tigers.

17 players had 2 tackles or less.

Clark laid 5 in a quarter. Close, Stengle and maybe Rohan would add that. If we could swing those changes it'd help us out a lot.

No VFL this week so they miss out on the chance to give Henry some managed minutes. That being the case, I wonder if they consider giving him reduced minutes in the AFL side and subbing him out after 3 quarters?

Alternatively, he's a flexible enough player that they could even consider him as a sub and play Clark for a full game?

Who knows what they're thinking?

Rohan and close have been averaging 3 tackles a game and Stengle 2 so will help but maybe not by a material amount? But the collective pressure increases.

In terms of Clark it is impressive but obviously it is easier for a mid to get tackles around stoppages. If they don’t get the ball (which is the preference) they are usually right there sweating on the opposition who does). Atkins averages 8 a game…and 5 clearances (but 5 tackles in a qtr was impressive for the young boy)

Don’t think we will see Henry snr and SDK 50/50 at best. Reckon there will be 3 changes max to the 23. Stengle and close in and then maybe one tall for Ceglar managed.

In terms of out of 23 we will have one forced (injury) and then either Parf or Dempsey Will be the other (for Close and Stengle)
On reflection I can’t imagine they will drop Parfitt for this round? Sir Doug. Given its significance and he has been part of the lead up to it today. maybe they could have him as sub but can’t see Him out of the 23.

so that means to get 2 ”ins” with only 1 forced “out” they either manage an older player or take Dempsey or Jhye out of 23. Most likely Dempsey given two towards back in?

So health update from Lloyd says Close certain to be back and two others “in the mix”. Stengle and J Henry

And confirmed once new injury to O Henry

All others on the injured list are either next few weeks or post bye.

Meat tray options therefore narrow a little down to 2 or 3 changes.

I would think if Henry completely right he becomes attractive given versatility. In particular if they want to rest Ceglar?

Would be surprised if Tyson doesn’t play unless they think he is under done?

So outs will come from either managing older players (Ceglar, 2E most likely?) or from Parf (I don’t think so given Sir Doug round), Dempsey/Simpson/Jhye/Mitch

I really can’t pick which way they will go. Dempsey seems an obvious one if both Close and Stengle back but might hold spot if only one of them comes in?

In: J Henry, Stengle, Close, Clark

Out: O Henry, Tuohy, Parfitt, Dempsey

Sub: Tuohy
I wouldn’t be shocked if you get the meat tray.

Only thing I would change is that Parf would be at least sub. It is sir Doug round and I think that will matter. And to give him another crack before he might lose any chance with danger and Guthrie back.

Also wouldn’t be surprised if Henry doesn’t get up. Reckon they will give him another week and even then maybe one game in vfl.

I'd be amazed if Stengle and SDK are ready to play. Stengle had surgery to repair a broken arm, Software Development Kit had surgery to fix a broken eye socket and/or cheekbone. Close will come in and that could be it.
