Good point. You give Murphy, Boyd and Johannisen too much room and they'll cut you to pieces.

Those guys are too good with the footy. Luckily, we have good matchups athletically. Dennis will go to Bob and lock down. Might even play Bell on Boyd for a bit, put in a few crunching tackles and slow him down a little.

Byrne Rowe Smith
Docherty Jaksch Sheehan

Warnock Judd Carrazzo
Dick Gibbs Whiley

Thomas Watson DVR
Menzel Jones Walker

You could almost argue which starting 18 is better :) Almost.

Certainly looks like our depth is a little better than expected.

Levi isnt Kernahan. He's alright, but i'd be wanting more than just him in my forward grouping, particularly if the only other forward is Jones.

And this isnt having a dig at Levi (Jones maybe after giving him a good run for minimal output), but its more about looking at the people they are competing for spots with.

Tell me you'll be satisfied if we lose Watson for nothing, then Henderson decides to walk to Geelong, and we are left with 2 genuine tall forwards (Levi and Jones).
So we lose 2 players but we have no chance of bringing someone in? Come on, at least keep it consistent. If we lose players, we have the ability to bring other's in.

Of course we do, but an 18 year old draftee isnt going to have any sort of impact in the short term, and trading for ready made players will cost us too much.

I just dont want to see us lose a player without putting them through their paces at AFL level. If Watson plays VFL, and Jones plays AFL....I'll be incredibly frustrated.

Watson has been put through his paces at this level over a number of years.

Enlighten me. His best run of consecutive games is 7 in 2012 followed by 5 in the tail end of 13 - all as a defender. Those 5 games at the end of 2013 were good enough to get him a contract extension, and shortly after he was converted to a forward by Mick (and unlike Laidler, has actually put in the hard yards and made some real progress).

He has been given 2 chances to play as an afl forward. In one game he kicked 4 goals in a competitive performance against Essendon, and this season he had 3 touches and no impact whatsoever against GWS - a game where we were demolished in the middle - he was subbed out at 3qtr time. If you believe 2 games 6 months apart is enough of a chance to prove himself at this level at a completely different position to his prior runs (which were deemed good enough), then you've lost me.

People on here constantly refer to how weve given up good players like Laidler and how they are now playing well in other teams. I just dont want this to happen to us again - particularly in a role where we arent flush with superstars.

I still honestly think Laidler moving on was best for us and him. He was asked to do too much in our team and play roles that didn't particularly suit him. We asked him to be Batman which he definitely isn't. In Sydney, he can slot in behind an extremely experienced and solid defensive partnership and he can play the Robin role which he does fairly well.

With Watson, if the opportunity for another tall forward came up over the rest of the season i'd absolutely bring him in before Jones, because there isn't much between them and we've got Jones locked away for another year or 2 already. He deserves a shot IF the opportunity arises.

At the end of the day what do we have to lose by giving Watson an extended run (6-7 games) up forward. Who knows what he could do with some confidence and an extended run. If it doesn't work out, it's no big deal ... It's not like we are in the mix for a finals spot. If it does work out we can be more flexible with Henderson ... Shift him to CHB where he plays his best footy.

If our best team going forward are all fit and firing, we should keep them together because that's where our success will come from. Bringing in Watson and displacing one of those guys just because doesn't help us moving moving just in case Watson shows something. I don't see the point in dropping say Rowe, to move Hendo back to bring in Watson. Hendo has been a vital cog in our forward line the past 3 weeks since Micks gone, and his work has taken the pressure off Levi who has also been giving great return as a genuine Full Forward.. Everitt is bouncing around between hem as the mobile 3rd tall and it's all clicked. Changing that synergy just for the hell of it would be a mistake IMO.

Agreed theres value in this. And its only until they synergy balance changes where a move should be made.

One key area where I see as a possibility will be when the Wood/Kruezer combo isnt working out.

I want to see him given a chance to play to.

While not advocating losses, there really seems to be 2 or 3 players in this draft that could be 14 year 200 game KPP studs.

I am more than happy to keep showing improvement, play attacking footy and give some other guys a go. IF that means we finish bottom 3, while properly assessing everyone on the list, I think that is an ok way to move forward.

Winning is always good for culture, however lets not forget we are multiple A grade players away from being a consistent force.

Would love to see Watson get a real go with a semi-functioning midfield feeding him.
Would love to see Fields, Dick and DVR get some time before the end of the season.

One might think there will be a time where Kruz rucks the game alone with backup from Levi. The only issue there is that Levi is doing a great job as a full time stay at home forward currently. I guess we just have to work out whether we lose more by having Wood play forward so much or interrupting Levi's play to help Kruz out. Ideally we'd love Kruz rucking most of the game AND Levi forward all of the game, but there is going to have to be some sort of a compromise either way. To be honest, so far i'm liking Wood's ability to play the role the team needs him in. Pleasant surprise.

Wood has done more than we ever could have asked when we picked him up. He has been serviceable, tackles hard and works hard around the ground. Has already played many better games than Warnock ever did.

Is the perfect AFL depth ruckman and should certainly be kept around for as cheap as possible.

Any self-respect.

You bemoan the fact that Watson hasn't been given an extended go up forward. In your opinion Watson's performances up forward this year in the VFL (and rnd 22 last year) suggest he could make a go of it at senior level if given the chance. There is no way of disproving your opinion without doing as you suggest and watching Watson flop like a great big floppy flop.

In my opinion the Club is right to form the view that Watson is no part of any sensible rebuild. He has demonstrated repeatedly to me and many others, including hopefully those who count, that we do not need to waste any more time on this list clogger. Giving him an extended opportunity would only reveal us to be numpties who have no idea how to do a rebuild.

What you are hoping for is that a proven dud suddenly blossoms into a damaging KPF. Unless you can run around in a tutu waving a little wand it aint going to happen. At best Watson might be an occasional goal scoring forward who can provide no forward defensive pressure and who would be routinely thrashed by any decent KPD. Not a player for a Premiership.

If "Watson" is the answer I hope the question is "Who do we delist?"

I would suggest that always trying to win is good for culture - winning itself becomes the byproduct of the effort.

If we try Watson, and its a failure - we are more likely to finish lower meaning we can pick up one of the more highly touted KPP's. If its not a failure, then we may not need one of those highly touted KPP's and can instead focus on the better mids in the draft who will be available later in the top 10.

Yeah, that's the way. Bring out the big terms.

Pretty sure many had Laidler as a list clogger and he didn't perform half as well as Watson had in the front half of the NB side.....but he may have a Premiership medal around his neck, this year.

So, Watson is highly unlikely to be at the CFC after this year but have you seen how much effort he's put in for himself and his team-mates?
No you haven't have you? Just want to pull out the big hitting terms. You didn't mention the size of his head just for good fun and a :)

Lol, I wasn't bemoaning anything. All I said was I don't see the harm in giving him a go. Geez.
